Chapter 212: A Demon’s Mate

"That’s bullshit. So... they let Alexandra go and now they wanted to take her with them?" Christoff uttered. "Why are we letting this happen?"

"This was my idea," Ava uttered. She was talking about the King’s decision. She couldn’t really say that she didn’t expect it from someone like Josef.

"Look if you want to run towards— "

"If I run, he would kill you and the rest. If you run with me, then there is no way that you could come back to this place. Again." In fact, Duke Josef Asad was holding this fact hostage to make Ava do what he wanted. Or at least that’s what everyone thinks is happening right now.

"How could you agree to this crazy plan?" Christoff asked Damon. "It’s... too much. It would leave us with no choice but— "

"It was my fault," Ava said. As much as it pains her to accept the truth, she had no choice. This was the only way to calm them down. "It started when we met."

"That’s stupid. How is that possible? That man is a well-known killer. There is no way that he would— Alright... let’s say for the sake of argument that he liked you. But so what? What’s going to happen? Was he planning to make you his bride? It’s forbidden to marry an other- worlder."

"Christoff, please leave us," Damon said interrupting Christoff’s rants.

"But..."

"Go to Alex’s room. You to James." frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

Seeing Damon’s dark expression, the two of them left Ava and their boss alone.

"In this world, other- worlders are not equal to normal citizens," Damon said the moment they close the door. "Do you know why?"

"No."

"This world was said to be a world in between the demon world and human world. This is where Demons could walk in... freely. But that didn’t happen until an other- worlder set them free."

"An other- worlder?"

"Yes. Your people would call her a dream walker."

"That— "

"They said, she could walk in between dimensions. She could... walk inside your dreams."

"She?"

"A woman. Yes."

"She opened a portal to the demon world?"

"Yes. This is only one reason why our people hate your people." Damon said. "As you know... most people who come here cannot go back to your world. And for some reason, those people— most of them— are criminals."

Ava nodded at that.

"Most of them had no qualms about killing people. Rxping women and children and even cannibalism. Though there is no law in this world, it has become a taboo to avoid marrying an other- worlders. If someone like me or the Duke marries someone like you, let’s just say we are going to receive a lot of challenges from other people as they would start doubting our capability to think normally. Of course, some strong people bedded women from your world and received no repercussions simply because they never had any children."

"Not even one?"

"No."

"So..."

"The only ones that could impregnate your kind are two kinds of people. One is someone who received an essence of a demon and the second one is a demon."

"So, why are you telling me this?"

"Simple... because Duke Josef Asad is not human."

"You mean he received an essence?"

"We thought so. But I believe he is more than that. I believe he is a daemon."

"Daemon? You mean... Demon? Or Daemon?"

"Demons are not accepted even here. We tend to hate them but they have their own kinds and hierarchy and then there are considered the ’good’ type of demons which are called Daemons. Born from someone who lived here who was impregnated by a Demon."

Damon continued. "Unlike Demons who couldn’t walk on Earth, Daemons can go out of the portal. They have longer lives. Though they aren’t as powerful as Demons, they are more powerful than a human who received a demon’s essence."

Ava snorted. "And you are looking at me like that because?" Since they arrived, Damon had been staring at her as if he wanted to ask her a question then changed his mind at the last minute.

"I thought you have an essence with you."

"What?" Ava couldn’t believe her ears. "I have never been here. That— "

"I know," Damon said. "When I met you at the Pits, I didn’t feel anything from you. So I brought you here."

"And?"

"When I saw you again, I knew that you don’t have one inside you. You see... people who received an essence from a Demon can feel each other and I— I couldn’t feel anything from you."

"So?"

"The thing that you pulled inside the hall. You used your magick without any problems."

"And?"

"Witches— I mean other— worlders cannot do that. In fact, magick does not work inside the whole palace."

Ava blinked.

"It— It was just a small magick. I mean... I know that the magick circle would at least— "

"No Ava. The magick circle would suppress an other— worlders magick and weaken a Daemon and a Demon’s magick."

"Are you saying that I— "

"I think the reason why the Duke had taken a keen interest in you is that might be Daemon."

"That’s absurd. How could I have a Demon—" She used her hand to cover her mouth as she looked at Damon with disbelief. "My mother— I never met her but I— I know my father and I looked exactly like him."

Damon stared at her as if he wanted to see if she was lying or not. Then he sighed. "Where is he now?"

"He died. When I was seven and that’s when I discovered that I’m a witch."

"Did he die in front of you?"

"Why are you asking such questions?"

"You see... a Daemon’s abilities can only be activated by extreme trauma."

Her jaw dropped. What the hell is going on now?

A Daemon? She’s a Daemon? That didn’t make any sense!

If she’s a daemon then her mother mated with a demon?

"If let’s say that my mother was indeed someone who had sex with— "

"Mated."

"What?"

"Demons have mates. And so are Daemons."

"So, you are saying that my mother was a Demon’s mate?"

"There is no way that she would have survived childbirth if she’s not his mate."
