Chapter 213: Lycans are Feared

"This is absurd..." Ava uttered. She got up and started pacing inside Damon’s study. She couldn’t help but hit her lower lips as she thought of all the coincidences.

"If my mother came from the Pits, then... she must have forgotten everything, including my father," Ava said. "And her life inside this place."

"Yes."

"But why risk it? I mean— "

"What do you mean?"

"I— "

"You aren’t even sure if you were born on Earth Eve."

"That — "She looked at him. "That’s right. But A Daemon?"

"That is the only plausible reason why you could use magick even when you are inside the palace. The other explanation is if you are a Demon which is clearly... not the case here because you don’t have the bloodlust that demons have. Plus, Demons cannot walk on Earth so..."

"So Demons cannot go out of the pits?"

He nodded.

"And that’s why everything suspected Josef was a demon?"

"Yes."

"And you think he knows that I am this Daemon?"

"That or you are his mates."

"A demon’s mate?" Ava scoffed. "No. That is unlikely. That — would not happen."

"You seem so sure."

"Yes." Ava snorted.

"Demons have a mate and only they know that."

"Look... I am not a demon’s mate. That’s impossible. It would never happen. Ever." She already has a mate! How could she have another mate? That’s impossible!

"Why are you so sure?"

"Because — " She took a deep breath. Now that she thought about it, everything that she would learn inside the Pits would disappear once she leave this place. What was the point of coming here when her memories would disappear once she gets out?

For some reason, she had a hunch that the old man already knew about this beforehand.

That damn geezer!

"Because what, Eve?"

"Because I already have a mate."

Ava pursed her lips.

"A mate?"

"Yes. I have a mate. There you go."

"You knew this even when you are— "

"Yes. I knew it for some time now. And yes. I was marked and claimed by my mate. So there is no way— "

"That’s not right."

"What?" Ava realized that he was staring at her neck. "What’s not right?"

"You don’t have a mark."

"It’s disappeared."

"The mark of your mate doesn’t disappear."

"Well, it did to me and that’s because I’m a special case."

Damon looked at her in disbelief. It was as if she had just told me the craziest thing in this world.

"What?" she asked. freewebnovel-cσ๓

"Marks don’t disappear, Eve."

"Well, mine did."

"Your mate..."

"He is a Lycan."

"A Lycan?" Damon frowned. For the first time, he looked serious. And maybe even confused. Earlier, the man sounded so confident and sure of his words, but now he looked lost.

"What is it?" she asked. She had stopped pacing and just stood there waiting for him to say a word. For some reason, the crease in between his brows made her heart skip. Her heart soon started racing. "What?"

"Lycans... could kill Daemons, Demons, and people like me who were forced to have an essence inside our body."

"Explain."

"Lycans are feared even in this world because... a mere bite or scratch from them is poison to someone like us."

"Someone like you." Ava corrected him. "I am not a Daemon and the fact that a Lycan bit me and I survived proved that."

Right?

His words gave her relief and joy, but for some reason, she felt that this wasn’t the end of it.

"Then what are you?" Damon asked.

"I would like to know, too."

"You aren’t a witch, not a human, not a Daemon, or someone with an essence. You are certainly not a demon or an Angel because angels and other celestials cannot get inside this place."

"Right."

"So, what are you?"

Ava stared at Damon. Then she turned away. "Is that really important?" she asked. She’s a freak. She grew up thinking that. "I am not here to join politics, so finding out about my nature is useless. I am set to leave this world as soon as I can."

"But it would be difficult. I am sure that Josef would try to prevent that from happening."

"I know," Ava said.

"And you still wanted to go? If you want— "Damon sighed. "I took you inside this place. I am willing to take responsibility and bring you out. Alive."

"Even if that means you won’t be able to come back?" Ava asked and in response, Damon nodded.

"That’s absurd. You are born here."

"I could just run away. Start a new life on Earth. Have fun."

Ava snorted. Of course, she doesn’t believe a word that this man said. The thing is, once Damon leaves this place, he would lose his memory. He would only recover it once he comes back inside the pits that drink that liquid.

But the only way for him to drink the liquid is inside his property, which might be very hard to do if Josef’s people are hunting him. Without his memories, he would be halfway to his grave the moment he walked back into his world.

"It’s fine. I can take care of myself." Ava said. "I am a mercenary that you hired. And you gave me my pay, so I will try to do the thing that you asked me to do."

"You— "

"You think I can’t do it?" Killing the Duke would be easy if she was close. A smile slowly rose on her lips. "I think I should stay close to the Duke. I am also interested to know why he seemed soo... interested in me." If the Duke is a demon, then he might have answers about her, right?

Now the question is... would Ava really like to know the truth?

Of course, all she could do for now is curse the old man. She needed to talk to that old geezer now!

"I am going to sleep. I have an early day tomorrow," Ava said. She couldn’t wait to see the old geezer inside her dreams!
