Chapter 229: Old Age and Wisdom

"You almost died," the current knight said as Ava was drinking the healing potion. "Why not rest for this floor?"

How could someone continuously fight since they survive the first floor?

"I don’t think the gold will become lesser if you fight tomorrow," he continued. This woman had been fighting nonstop without eating or resting. He couldn’t help but wonder if she was running from something.

"No," Ava responded. "I’m fine. Let’s go. Lead me to the next floor."

"But— " the knight looked at Ava then he shrugged. "Alright."

Ava nodded. She needed to finish everything as fast as she could to get back to Matthew. She could feel him and she knew that he was in danger. She could only hope that he would be there once she was back.

She shouldn’t have stayed away, she thought as she walked inside the next floor.

The eleventh.

She eyed the batlike creature that flew towards her. This time, she didn’t use any weapons unlike what she did on the past floors. She immediately chanted a magick, something she knew was forbidden on Earth.

"Malal Vertis" she said in a low voice. The creature immediately stopped flying. It fell to the ground with a loud thud. Upon closer inspection, the creature looked like it was sleeping. But if one would look even closer, one would see that it was actually trembling so fast, that it almost looked like it wasn’t moving.

Malal Vertis.

It is a forbidden spell on Earth not just because of the pain that it could give to anyone. It would also slowly attack someone’s bones and then blood. The spell would destroy anyone from the inside without showing any damage on the outside.

In fact, no one would know how the creature died unless they opened its carcass. Once they open it, they would realize that its insides had been broken. It was as if a tornado wrecked the creature’s insides.

Ava looked down coldly.

Each floor had a mini-portal where these creatures would come from. She had no idea if they came from a prison or from another dimension. All she knew is that... she had to kill them.

If she wanted access to the outside world. She needed to go to the fifty-first floor and then defeat ten people so she could leave.

"You won," the knight muttered next to her. "That was— a little too much."

"Take me to the next floor."

This time, the knight didn’t ask her to rest. Instead, he nodded and led Ava to the next floor.

On the next floor, Ava once again used a magick that could make her kill her opponent in an instant. Though it was cruel, Ava chose to use it so she could leave this place faster.

After ten more floors, Ava collected her prize which was coins, and once again started fighting monsters. Despite not being able to sleep for a few days now, Ava didn’t feel any exhaustion simply because of the potions that she had been taking. For some reason, she felt that the Shaman’s actions actually made sense. It turn out that the Shaman asked her to make all those potions to prepare for instances like this.

Old Age and wisdom are really different.

After Ava defeated the creature living on the fortieth floor, she chose to rest for two days.

She did this not because she was tired but because she wanted to try and access the old man or maybe Matthew.

It was futile.

She couldn’t do it!

Ava opened her eyes as she curse inwardly. How is that possible? The old man told her she could walk through dimensions and it would be easier for her to do it if she keeps on practicing inside The Pits. But it was totally different in the Arena.

Ava could only bite her lower lips as she stared at the ceiling.

"Matthew— " she sighed.

"Mine..."

"Huh?" Ava jolted up. She looked around. Did she just hear someone call her... mine?

She blinked and once again laid on the bed. This time, she focused and calmed herself down.

"Mine..."

It was a gruff voice. It sounded human and not human at the same time. But she immediately knew the owner of the voice.

"Matthew?" she closed her eyes as she called him out. Then she felt it. A sudden warmth, a surge from her chest. She opened her eyes and let out a gasp.

And that was when she saw him.

Matthew.

He was inside her room, staring down at her with a face that was devoid of all expression.

"Matt— hmm"

He covered her mouth with his palm.

Her eyes widened.

Without removing his hand, he slowly sat next to her.

When he saw the panic disappear from her eyes, he slowly let her mouth go. But before she could even say a single word, Matthew grabbed both of her wrists and pin them on top of her head.

"Matthew!" she hissed, surprised at his sudden actions. At one point she started to wonder if she was dreaming.

As a dream walker, Ava knew when she would dream. And this... this is different.

She couldn’t determine if she was inside a dream.

Logic would dictate that something like this is impossible. After all, Matthew is not here.

But can she really use logic to explain everything that happened in her life?

She stared at his eyes. It was gold, deep gold. The silver streaks on his irises were especially beautiful, more beautiful than any jewel she had ever seen.

"Matthew?" she asked in an almost sultry voice. Her blood had rushed south, her core now trembling from his touch.

It’s been months.

She tried her best to avoid thinking about him, about them. She even avoided sneaking inside his room to stare at him as he sleeps.

It wasn’t doing her any good.

And now this?

She couldn’t even distinguish a dream from reality anymore.

Was it because she had been overworking herself?

He used his other hand to touch her cheek, dragging his fingers down to her neck and clothes and into her thigh.

Oh... she missed his touch.

She missed everything about him!
