Chapter 241: Nine Months of Absense

Her father can do magick?

Wait....

Her father isn’t human?

What is going on here?

Sadly before she could look closer, her vision once again turned blurry.

She felt her head spin around as pain filled her body. It felt like something was trying to separate her limbs, an invisible force that threatened to tear her apart.

"Ugh!" Ava felt herself falling. And the next thing she knew her body was already on the ground. "Aw!" she hissed when she noticed the pain in her wrist.

She must have used it to try and protect herself as some of her fingers were dislocated. After performing a simple healing spell, Ava finally got up and examined her surroundings. She was currently on the cliff where they jumped off on the way to the Pits. She’s currently inside Mourning Pits!

Relief flashed inside her as she immediately teleported towards the older Shaman’s house. She arrived outside of the older Shaman’s house and wasn’t really surprised when she saw him standing by the door.

To be honest, Ava felt excited to see the old man in person. "How did you know I was coming?" Ava asked.

"I could sense you," Shaman Gaas looked at her dirty appearance, from her head to her toe. "You look like... a mess."

"Is that your way of saying, welcome back?" Ava stood in front of the Shaman, a smile appeared on her face.

"You reeked of blood."

"I know," Ava said.

"Let’s go inside," Shaman Gaas said. The door opened and the two of them walked inside the house.

"Did something happen?" Shaman Gaas asked.

"What do you mean?"

"I thought you died."

"Huh?" Ava watched as the Shaman poured her some tea. "You knew about the Arena. I was fighting."

"For six months?"

"Six months?" Ava blinked, confused. She thought she was inside the Arena for a few days! She had been fighting nonstop to be able to come back as soon as possible. How could she stay in that place for six months?

"You lost contact for six months?" she confirmed and the old man nodded. She slowly sat on the chair by the window, her eyes staring at the cobblestone road. "Then... how..." she gulped. " How long was I gone? I mean inside the pits."

"Nine months."

Ava felt her hot dropped. She felt like something was blocking her throat.

"How— I didn’t notice the— I thought the time would be the same." Of course, the answer was really simple. Multiple universes have multiple laws. Each realm has its own laws and time. It was possible but she hadn’t thought about it before.

Upon realizing this matter, she immediately got up.

"Matthew!" she looked at the old man. "I need to see him."

"You have to sit down, Ava. Calm down and drink your tea."

"But— "

Seeing the old man’s serious expression Ava sat down and accepted the tea. She didn’t hesitate to finish it in one go. Then she waited for the old man to speak.

"You reeked of blood," the old man uttered.

"I was fighting."

"No. This is different." The old man said. "You are surrounded by a dark aura that could easily provoke shifters."

"A what?"

"This is considered normal if you are coming from the pits. So there is no need for you to concern yourself. However, you have to do a series of cleansing before I am allowing you to leave this place."

"No." Ava shook her head. "I can’t do that. I don’t have the time. I need to see Matthew."

"Your smell could easily make a shifter crazy."

"He isn’t just a shifter." Ava got up and waved her hand towards her body. Her clothes immediately turned clean, her face though thin and pale looked a little brighter. She looked alive.

The old man stared at her appearance before letting out another sigh.

"I don’t think seeing him now would do him any good."

"Why?"

"There has been an accident." Shaman Gaas said. "And Matthew had been in bed for a few months now."

"In bed?" Ava widened her eyes. She immediately thought of Josef and the way that he fell ill when Ava left. Was there some sort of connection?

"This is why I told you to perform some cleansing to change your smell. You cannot see him like this. We don’t know if it could provoke him."

Ava blinked, her head hammered against her chest as she clenched her hand into two tight fists.

"Alright."

The Shaman nodded.

"I have prepared a bath for you. You have to bathe in it and stay inside your room for three days and three nights."

"And after that?"

"We can leave this place."

Ava nodded. "Thank you."

"Don’t thank me yet." The Shaman said as he turned towards the kitchen.

Ava watched as the back of the old man disappeared. Then she walked towards her room and followed his instruction. She was grateful that the old man actually prepared in advance for her return.

Still, she couldn’t help but get worried.

The Shaman said that Matthew had been in bed for months now. What could have happened?

She removed her clothes and got into the tub with greenish sticky liquid surrounded by different types and shapes of crystals. The candles that lit the bathroom only made it look more ominous for most people but Ava somehow felt calmer inside this place. She slowly closed her eyes as she continued thinking of Matthew.

Soon, she thought.

She is going to see him... very soon.

...

"What did you just say?" Queen Margery Graydon frowned when she heard the report of one of her most trusted witches.

"Ava Woods was spotted in the Mourning Pits."

"Ava? Matthew’s Ava?"

"Yes, your majesty."

"Are you telling me she is going inside the Pits?"

"No your majesty, it looked like she just came back."

Margery looked at the witch. "I have never heard about this before." And after Matthew vanished, the civil war started. Her schedule had been hectic. "No matter. This isn’t important. I don’t want to waste our time thinking about some insignificant witch. Matthew is no more. We are about to crown Drigo in a few days. I want you to focus on security instead."
