Chapter 247: Ava the Paparazzi

Ava loved Oaths.

She found it helpful especially when she was dealing with a more powerful individual. Breaking an oath could be difficult for some people and it would give her an assurance that someone would have her back in case something happens.

Call her paranoid but Ava would want to keep herself as safe as possible.

"Yes, an Oath that you are not going to harm me and that I am under your protection inside that Kingdom."

"Why would you need my protection, Miss Woods?"

"The same reason why Baba protected Matthew in secret?"

Ulva widened her eyes. "I see. You seemed to be aware of the past and the current situation inside the Kingdom."

Ava only gave the woman a mysterious smile. Baba had warned her about the powerful witches inside the Kingdom. Ulva is just one of them. Baba already said that Ulva had an obsessive loyalty to the King. She would do everything for her King. She wouldn’t hesitate to slit her own throat for the sake of her king.

Watching the woman in front of her, Ava couldn’t see any signs that the woman was loyal to anyone. She looked quite strict and cunning. Strong and confident to the point of looking like she was actually looking down on Ava. Just like Baba and the Shaman, Ava couldn’t sense any emotions from her too.

A strong witch indeed.

"Aware enough to know that many people hate me inside that place." Ava had a gentle smile dangling on her face. On the outside, she looked amicable, maybe even to the point of looking like a naive woman. However, Ulva knew how cunning she was.

Ulva sneered inwardly. How could a mere witch who was still wet behind the ears asked for her protection? Even witches who are more powerful than Ava would never dare to ask to have her oath. However, Ulva was aware that the King wanted to use this opportunity to ask for Ava’s help to find Matthew. And Ava must be aware of that too.

This woman was taking advantage of the current situation!

Ulva was seething inside. Yet, she couldn’t show any of her anger on the inside.

The King told her to treat Ava as an important guest of the Kingdom. This isn’t just because of Matthew. The King was very clear that they wanted the person who let Ava inside Mourning Pits. After all, not many witches knew about this place. In fact, only some priestesses know about Mourning Pits and the Pits.

They did it to stop the younger generation from going into this forsaken place.

"I will not harm you and I will protect you inside the Kingdom." At least Ulva could promise that. However, there are a lot of ways to break this promise. For instance, this type of oath would lose its effects the moment Ava took a step out of the Kingdom.

Another loophole is the definition of the Kingdom.

Ulva was wise enough to make it sound like she actually meant the whole Kingdom. However, all she wanted to do is not harm Ava inside the palace. She defined Kingdom as... the palace. In this way, once Ava took a step outside of the palace the oath would not be effective.

"Very well." Ava smiled. "Then I would gladly do the same thing. I promise not to harm you... inside the Kingdom."

"There is no need for you to do that."

Ava lifted an eyebrow but nodded either way. "I understand," she said. Of course, a powerful witch wouldn’t do that. It would be an insult to the powerful witch to asked the protection of someone like Ava with an unknown background.

"Then let us make the oath,"

.......

The sound of the waves against the cliff echoed around Ava. She could feel the sun, its heat against her skin. She could smell the salt that filled the air.

She took a deep breath as she continued sitting in a lotus position. Her eyes were closed as she rested her hand on her knees.

The air around Ava was wet and warm.

The sound of the sea continue to fill her senses for a few more minutes before she ended her meditation. She opened her eyes and stared at the beautiful hue of colors from the rising sun.

It had been days since she came here. She especially chose this place not just because it was near Matthew but because of this beautiful view. She sighed. Contrary to what Baba and the Shaman thought, her presence didn’t have any obvious effects on Matthew. Even though she had been taking care of him, Matthew never showed any signs of recovering.

She started to wonder if this had something to do with Josef. It was just too much to be a coincidence.

But what was happening?

She quickly realized that there is something worse than watching a loved one suffering in bed, it’s not knowing anything.

Love one.

The thought made her smile.

She shook the thoughts out of her head as she started walking towards the shore not far away from the house. She wanted to walk in the sand. After a few minutes, she finally arrive at a small beach. Staring at the white sand, Ava thought about her plan to go to the Kingdom of the Lycans. Everything was already in order. All she needed to do is show up and make more trouble. frёewebηovel.cѳm

The thought sounded scary but she was actually quite excited.

"Hm?" Ava immediately frowned when she noticed two people sunbathing. A man and a woman. The thing is, this was a private beach that Ava rented using a secret name. She thought it would be a good cover. Whoever was following her would never think that she would lead them straight to Matthew.

One might think that she was just taking this time to relax after what she went through inside The Pits.

Before Ava could make herself invisible, the man already spotted her.

She shook her head inwardly.

She really didn’t want to interact with someone.

"Hey! This is private property," the man spoke. "You better leave this place or we will call the police."

Ah... humans.

Ava said nothing as she continued walking.

"Hey! Can you hear me?"

"Who are you?" Ava asked.

"I own this place. You should leave."

Ava notice that the woman actually took her top off.

Understanding flashed in her eyes.

How enviable.

She wanted to lay under the sun with Matthew too!

The man walked towards Ava. He looked to be in his early thirties. And he clearly liked the woman he was with. Arrogance oozed from the man as he stopped walking a few feet away from Ava.

"How did you get into this place?" he asked. "My father owns this place. I told him to close it down today." The man made sure to make his voice so the woman who was sunbathing could still hear him. "Are you stalking us?" the man asked.

"I’m leaving," Ava said. "Enjoy the sun."

"I’m asking a question!"

Ava lifted an eyebrow. "Stalking?" She stared at the man’s shirtless body. "I— ." Ava was speechless. First and foremost, the man had abs but it’s not even as impressive as Matthew’s. Plus he isn’t as good-looking as Matthew too!

Why would she stalk someone like this?

Of course, even if the man was more good-looking than Matthew, she still wouldn’t stalk him. Alright, maybe she was just thinking too much about this? She should stop talking to herself inside her head, right?

"No. I wouldn’t do that even if someone pay me to." Ava blurted out before she could stop herself. She silently scolded herself.

"You— " The man’s face turned red. He looked at the woman who was sunbathing and almost immediately, Ava had a Eureka moment. The woman looked familiar!

She should be a celebrity, right?

Did they just mistake her for a paparazzi?

Ava wanted to laugh. They were not only doing some public display of affection, they thought she was paparazzi!

"But I am leaving," Ava sighed inwardly.

"You better wake up Matthew," she murmured inwardly. "You better not die on me." She started walking towards the house by the cliff. She wanted to do things like this too!

Normal stuff.

Bathing in the sun by the beach would be nice. Of course, she’s not planning to take her top off. But Matthew would probably rent the whole beach too. So...getting naked under the sun is alright, right?

"I was honestly thinking that you would explode and kill them."

Baba’s voice made Ava freeze. She turned at the woman who appeared next to her.

"Why would I kill them?" Ava asked. Right now, no one else could see Baba aside from Ava.

"Because you like killing people?" Baba asked.

Ava snorted. Right. She only kills people who offend her. She’s not some maniac psychopath. Still, she wondered why Baba always treat her like a bomb that is going to explode anytime soon.

"Why are you here?" she asked. Baba might be a mentor but she’s not a friend. Ava had a feeling that the only reason Baba is talking to her is because of Matthew.

"I came to introduce a few people."

Ava nodded. So... the time has finally come?
