Chapter 246: The King’s Invitation

Ulva held her head high as she walked towards the two-story house across the road.

She recalled the last time she visited the Mourning Pits and the reason why she always hated coming back. It was the fact that this place always had this dark aura that seemed to surround it. It felt like something heavy and suffocating blanketed the area.

She gulped as pushed the thoughts out of her head.

The King wanted Ava to go to the Kingdom. He wanted her to personally invite Ava. Of course, she knew that this isn’t just because of that woman but because of the powerful person behind Ava. They believed that the woman had a mentor, a powerful one at that.

But unlike them, Ulva didn’t think so.

Ava was a cunning woman. She arrived out of nowhere and immediately targeted the next King of the Lycans. Her arrival was not only a surprise, it was so sudden that even those who were always watching over Matthew hadn’t heard about her before the binding.

Ulva believed that Ava is a very scheming woman who has a very obvious goal and that is to get close to Matthew. She had succeeded.

But now that Matthew vanished, Ava needed to find someone else to protect her. That woman is just like a leech.

"I could feel you... inside." Ulva said. "Open the door. I have a message from the King." Her voice wasn’t necessarily cold but she knew it lacked a friendly emotion. She wondered if Ava would open the door for her.

"Priestess..." the witch who accompanied her called out after a few minutes of not hearing any response. "I think no one is here."

"No," Ulva uttered. How could a mere enchantment fool her? She cleared her throat. "My name is Ulva and the King of the Lycans sent me. I have no ill intention."

"Get the hell out of here!" A deep almost gruff voice echoed inside her ears.

Almost immediately, Ulva took a step back, electricity appeared on her hand. It cackled for a few minutes before dying. Then she stared at the door of the two-story house.

That voice...

It wasn’t a part of an enchantment.

"I am here to talk to Miss Woods," Ulva said. "This is an important message from the His Majesty, the King of the Lycans."

**BANG!**

The door opened.

Ulva smiled inwardly as she gestured for her people to stay outside. Then she walked inside the house. Just as she expected, the house inside was just as ugly as it was outside.

This house was old and cluttered. A fire made of magick can be seen in the fireplace. Next to the fireplace were two single-seated couches. The other couch was full of books, leaving only one couch available for seating.

"What brings you here?"

Surprisingly, the one who welcomed her was actually Ava.

Ulva frowned. She looked at the stairs, wondering if the owner of the voice would soon come to see her.

It should be proper etiquette to greet another powerful witch. She was waiting for that man to come to see her.

"My name is— "

"I heard you earlier," Ava didn’t spare her a single glance as she sat on the vacant chair. Ulva frowned. The woman didn’t even have the courtesy to ask her to sit! Was she planning to let her stand until they are done with their conversation?

While still upset, Ulva decided to ignore it.

This is what the King wanted and she shall do it.

"Nice to meet you, Miss Woods. I came here to represent the King. He wanted to invite you to the Kingdom," Ulva flicked her hand, revealing a black invitation that Ava had already seen before. The invitation floated towards Ava. It opened itself and revealed its contents.

"The King wanted to meet the only witch that the future King trusted." Ulva smiled. "The King wanted to celebrate the fact that Miss Woods survive the Pits. It is a very good establishment... at your age."

"I have no intention of seeing the King," Ava said bluntly as she looked at the woman in front of her. The woman was wearing a really long turtle neck long sleeve dress. To be honest, this woman reminded her of the strict nuns that managed the orphanage that she knew in the past. Her hair was in a tight bun that looked so perfect, not a speck of hair can be seen outside of that bun.

The thick eyeglasses that hung on the woman’s eyes were the perfect addition to make her look like the scary nurse that hunted Ava’s dream in the past.

"I have no business with the Lycans," Ava continued when she saw the woman’s irritation. Perhaps, the woman expected her to immediately agree to the request. "However... I might find the time to do it next week so— " Ava shrugged. The invitation stated that she had to come with Ulva tonight for a banquet.

"Next week?" Ulva tried to be calm. "Are you trying to insult the Lycan race?"

Ava blinked. "I don’t know what you are talking about. The invitation said that I have to see him now. But I already made plans with someone else. Are you expecting me to cancel all my plans to accommodate the Lycan King?"

Ulva looked like Ava pooped on her food. She scowled but quickly maintained a blank look on her face. Ava could only imagine the irritation that the woman was feeling right now. After all, the Lycans always thought that they are above everyone else.

"Of course, if that is not possible then... just please tell the King that I am not interested."

"Miss Woods... what are you trying to do?" frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"Pardon me?"

"The King seldom invites witches to his palace. This is a lifetime honor. And yet here you are... declining to see the King. May I know what kind of game you want to play?"

Ava wanted to laugh. But then again, the woman was an experienced witch. There is no way that something like this would miss her eyes.

"Nothing. I just want you to convince me and perhaps... assure my safety inside the Lycan Kingdom."

"You wanted me to make an Oath?" Ulva asked, surprise apparent on her face.
