SCOTLAND
Drigo walked inside the Queen’s study without even knocking. He strode towards his mother who was enjoying the view.
"Did you come for some tea?" Margery muttered before Drigo could even say anything. ’’Take a seat and join me."
"Is it true?" he asked. "Did you invite Matthew’s witch?"
"Did you just barge inside my study without showing proper etiquette because of a single witch?" Scorn flashed on the Queen’s face.
"I— "
"Is this the conduct of the upcoming crown prince?" Slowly, Margery looked at her son. "I don’t want you to do this again."
"Yes, mother."
Margery smiled. "So? What did you want to talk about?"
Drigo took a seat. He looked at the various confectioner in front of his mother and sighed.
"Why invite that witch?"
"Do I sense fear?" Margery countered.
"I don’t fear that woman. I just don’t think this is the right time to invite her and have her join the coronation."
Margery looked at her son for a few seconds which felt like forever to Drigo.
"You fear her?" the queen asked.
"No. But I don’t think it’s good that we let that woman in while Matthew is gone. I think... I think this is the father’s way of ruining the coronation. I knew that the old man didn’t want me to be his heir. He must be planning something!"
"Drigo my son... what made you think that your father doesn’t want you to become his heir? Where did this absurd notion come from?"
"Please mother. You and I knew the changes after he found out about the blood. Matthew’s existence was like a curse to me."
"Ah.." Margery leaned back. "After all, this is still about Matthew. Drigo, you are not inferior to Matthew. Not in any way. Though his blood is— "
"Stop it," Drigo suddenly hissed. His sudden outburst surprised his mother. "I was comatose for a few weeks after what happened! I am a Lycan yet my body failed to heal the injuries that he gave me. Is that something that someone— " Drigo stopped talking when she saw his mother’s furious eyes? He sighed. "Apologies. I just— Did you see what he put me through?"
"You don’t have to apologize. It wasn’t your fault."
"Then whose fault is it?"
"Drigo... " Margery leaned forward. "Matthew is... as good as dead. He won’t be able to come back."
"You sound so sure."
"That’s — "
"Did you do something to him?"
"Not directly. But I know that something happened to him. He disappeared along with that Babaylan and I— " Margery reached out and held her son’s hand on top of the table. "I know that they are not coming back."
"So... you did do something."
"It was not intentional. He just— succumbed to it because he was weaker."
Drigo sighed. He pursed his lips and pulled his hand away from his mother’s hand.
"Forgive me mother but that witch? Ava? She’s not exactly someone that I want during my coronation."
"And why is that?"
"I just— I think she’s here to do something."
"Please. Will you stop being paranoid? She just came back from the Pits. And you know what happens to people who survive that place, right?"
"You mean they get stronger?"
"And crazier," Margery smirked. "She disappeared for a few months. I believe she might be looking for Matthew too. The King is wise enough to invite her here and show her our wealth. Since Ava doesn’t know what happened to Matthew, it would be logical to think that she is coming here with questions."
The Queen continued. "She would want to know where Matthew is and we— we are planning to use that opportunity to pull her to our side."
"And how would that benefit me? Us?"
"It won’t." The Queen said. "But Matthew only cared for one woman since he left this place and that woman is...Ava. A wild card with power. She’s young and reckless. I believe it would be easy to convince her to our side and use her."
"Against Matthew?"
"Yes."
"But father might be planning to do something else."
"Oh, believe me, Drigo. Your father would never hurt you. Without Matthew, you are the strongest one. He wouldn’t risk it."
Drigo said nothing for a few seconds. "You are hiding something from me."
"Am I?"
"Please. I know you, mother. You would never do something like this without any advantages."
"Very well..." The Queen smiled. "You caught me."
"What is it?"
"I am planning on taking her by my side. Then I am going to give her to you."
"She made an oath to Matthew."
"Which I can easily destroy if I want to."
"Why?"
Margery smiled. "Simple. Matthew has been sleeping with that witch. He cared for her. It would be good to keep her just in case... Matthew would suddenly turn up somewhere and threatened your position."
"You— "
"I am just laying the foundation of your future Kingdom Drigo. I would do everything to get what you deserve and keep it. For you."
"Mother— "
"Your majesty. Your Highness." A maid knocked on the door. "Priestess Ulva asked me to inform you that the Witch is going to arrive in a few minutes. She asked me to inform you to come to the entrance to welcome her."
"She wanted you to personally welcome her? That— " Drigo stopped talking when he heard his mother’s growl.
"Of course," Margery said with a smile. Then she got up and looked at Drigo. "Let us go."
"Me?"
"It would be an honor to be welcomed by the Queen and the Crown Prince." Margery continued.
Drigo sighed. Then he got up and followed his mother out of her palace and into the palace of the King where Ava and Ulva will be teleported into. Not long after, they arrived at a large arched door that served as the King’s Palace grand entrance.
Drigo frowned when he saw another one of his siblings with his own witch.
"Kieran," Drigo greeted after Kieran and Erenes greeted the Queen. "What are you doing here?" he asked.
"What do you mean?" Kieran fired back. "I am here to welcome an old friend."
