KIERAN’s POV
After getting dressed, he went back to check on Erenes who just finished dissolving the body of the assassin using her magick. She was currently having tea not far away from the balcony.
"The night is dark," Kieran said. The absence of the moon and the stars felt ominous to him.
"You should sleep, your highness."
"I can’t." Even if he wanted to. Who would dare sleep knowing that another assassin might come anytime? Another witch or a strong Lycan could come anytime and take his life.
"If you wanted Miss Woods to help you then maybe you should do more than wait here. We can talk to her now if you want to."
"They would know if we teleport this place." After his visit to Ava, the Queen immediately send guards to ’secure’ this place. Coincidentally, they discovered a few assassins hiding nearby. So, they send witches and Lycans to guard the place and make sure that he is safe from the assassins.
The reason was too shallow, no one would believe it.
But would anyone ask any more questions?
The Queen who always sees Kieran’s mother as a rival finally had the chance to bully the son of her departed rival. Or at least that was just the tip of the iceberg. Many people outside of this castle don’t know what is actually going on.
He let out a sigh.
"It’s fine. I know she would come soon."
"But your highness, she isn’t someone that could brew a potion. I don’t understand how formulas and ancient potion recipes could attract her attention."
"She’s a witch who wanted to be strong," Kieran answered. "The formulas don’t exist anywhere else in this world, I am sure that it would help her somehow."
Erenes sighed and took a sip of her tea.
"You should rest. I will be here, guarding you."
"How’s Elizabeth these days?"
"Still alive, I suppose."
"Erenes..."
"It’s alright your highness. I expected as much when they asked us to swear to two different princes. We knew this would happen."
Kieran stared at Erenes. To make sure that Erenes and Elizabeth would stay loyal to the crown, the Queen intentionally have them swear to two different princes. On days like this, the Queen could easily use the other as a bargaining chip.
It was the cruel truth.
Something that she already accepted a long... long time ago.
"Ava Woods is different," Erenes said. "I can sense something different inside her. Something sinister. It was as if... she had killed hundreds of people."
"She came out of the Pits, isn’t it natural for her to smell like a murderer? I’ve heard horror stories about that place."
"It is no place for Lycans. The demons can smell Lycan. They would tear your kind apart before you could even take a step inside the pits." ƒгeewebnovёl_com
Kieran nodded. Demons hated Lycans because a Lycan’s bite could easily end a demon’s long life. It would make sense for them to kill any Lycan that visited their territory.
"Still, something is different about Ava. I just couldn’t— " Suddenly Erenes changed her expression. She got up, her eyes alert. An invisible shield appeared around her and Kieran. "I can sense you!" Erenes hissed. "Show yourself! Or I will leave you without a corpse!"
"My... My..." Ava’s voice somehow gave the two relief. But Erenes didn’t remove the shield. "When you told me you are in danger, I originally thought you just wanted to get out of this place. When I heard about your mother’s death, I assumed she told you to leave this place and find happiness somewhere."
"Ava..."
"Please don’t call me like that," Ava said. "We are not even friends." She slowly walked out of the shadows. Revealing her hooded figure. Slowly, she removed the hood and smiled at the two of them.
"Tea?" Ava asked. "Believe it or not... I have been running around all night, I am thirsty."
"Please help yourself," Erenes finally showed relief in her eyes. "I presume you have been here for a few minutes before I sensed you?"
"Right."
"It seems that I wasn’t wrong. You have become stronger."
"I have," Ava said as she pour herself some tea. "People change." She drank the tea and poured herself another one before taking a seat at the circular table that could accommodate four people. "So two assassins in just one night? I’d say that’s really extreme. It seems that they really wanted you to die."
Kieran just stared at her in response.
"How did you get in?" Erenes asked. "Queen Luna sent tens of guards after we met you. They said, they spotted some Lycan rebels not far from here and they wanted to keep the prince safe."
"Sounds like bullshit."
"It was," Erenes said. "I am assuming that you came here because you already made up your mind?"
"Yes."
"So are you going to help Kieran leave this place?"
"What about you?" Ava asked.
"I can’t leave my daughter."
"And this is the reason why you can’t involve yourself in this escape plan, yes?"
"You are very sharp."
Ava beamed. "You are praising me too much. It was nothing but a jest. Something that I did to put a smile in your faces."
"That way of speaking doesn’t suit you," Erenes said bluntly. However, instead of getting offended, Ava just laughed at her words.
"I know," Ava said. "Isn’t that why I wanted to leave as much as possible?"
The two stared at her as if she was some sort of lunatic.
"People who come here... can’t just leave even if they want to," Erenes said. "It would be very hard for a witch to leave."
Ava only nodded in response. "I came here to talk about the reason why they killed your mother." Ava’s expression turned serious. "I want to hear everything. After that, I will tell you the way to get out of this place. Alive."
"You really have a way?" Kieran couldn’t help but smile.
"Yes."
Seeing the confidence that gleamed in Ava’s eyes seemed to give Kieran hope. He cleared his throat and started telling Ava his mother’s story.
