"Why did you have to help him?" Matthew asked as they walked by the gardens at the back of the palace.
"Why not? The ancient potion formulas are pretty good," After Kieran woke up, he gave Ava the rest of the potion formulas while Ava gave him a way to leave this place by contacting one of Matthew’s people and using teleportation to leave without being detected.
The two continued walking while holding each other’s hands.
"Do you want to— "
"I am tired," Ava uttered. "What about you?" The sun is almost up and to be honest, Ava wanted to get some sleep. After all that happened earlier, all she wanted was a cozy snuggle. She smiled.
At normal times, she would have wanted to jump on him.
Alright, that might sound like she was so perverted or that she was a little thirsty. Maybe she was.
But for some reason, something inside her knew that a snuggle is just what she needs. She missed him and she just realized that she didn’t just meet his body or his dxck for that matter. She missed everything about him.
When Ava saw him earlier, her first thought wasn’t really the fact that he was hot in a black leather jacket. Her first thought was the fact that she wanted to hug him and hold him and make sure that he is really back. She was happy, so happy, she felt unreal. Does that even make any sense?
As if sensing her thoughts, Matthew lifted an eyebrow.
"Let me take you to my room," Matthew said.
"Not my room?"
"No uh, you will be staying in mine."
"But mine had a beautiful view," she faked a pout. "And what would they think if they knew that I stayed in your room? Many witches... Just like the ones that are watching us now would think I seduce you."
"Didn’t you?"
Ava’s lips twitched. She didn’t know why but for some reason, she thought she saw something flash in his eyes. Though, it immediately vanished.
"Did I?"
Ava stopped walking. She faced him, lifting her chin in a challenging way.
"No, you did not."
"I thought it was you who seduced me?" she asked.
"I suppose."
"Hey! Why are you talking like..." Like he didn’t try to use Amelia’s disappearance to get closer to her? "Anyway, don’t we have things that we need to talk about?"
"Things like what?"
"Like what happened before you left me alone."
"I would never do that."
Ava lifted an eyebrow and smiled "You did. You know... it’s better to act like adults and avoid running to avoid confrontation."
After a few seconds of silence, Matthew held Ava’s chin. "I’m sorry."
"Apology accepted."
"That’s it?"
"What?" she laughed.
"I mean— "
"I knew why you did that. The past me would have been a burden."
Matthew frowned. It was as if he wanted to say something but stopped midway. She closed his mouth and smiled instead.
"I wanted to keep you safe."
"Of course," Ava uttered. "I know that. You see... I just wanted to hear you say, you are sorry."
...
Ava finally fell asleep.
Her breathing was soft and gentle just like the small smile on her beautiful face. Matthew stared at her face for a long time. Green eyes, brown hair, beautiful flawless face. She looked like an angel, a goddess.
Matthew smirked.
He once knew a fool who sacrificed the woman that he loved to save the world. But that fool and Matthew are not the same. While that man would sacrifice his beloved, Matthew would burn this world or the next to save him.
He leaned down and kissed her slightly wet lips.
Oh, how he wished he could do something more.
Just a little more.
The moment he thought about it, his head started hurting, his gaze turned blurry.
Matthew quickly closed his eyes. After a few minutes, the headache disappeared.
He got up and examined the blinds, making sure that not a small sunlight could come inside. He hated the sun. He didn’t like how it felt to his skin. Then he examined his collection of wine a poured himself one. Then he made himself comfortable on the single-seater chair not far away from his bed.
"I’m surprised you are still alive," Matthew mused. He was staring at Ava with his scarlet red irises that looked like a monster’s orbs in the dark.
"That would not kill me."
"I know," Matthew slowly turned his head towards Baba. "And you also know I could kill you if I wanted to."
Baba glared at Matthew. frёeweɓηovel_coɱ
"Where is he?" she asked.
"Where is who?"
"You know what I’m talking about!" Baba hissed. "Matthew! Where is Matthew!?"
Matthew smiled. "I am Matthew."
"No. You are not!"
Matthew snorted. "This body had two bloodlines. Demons and Lycans are mortal enemies. What do you think would happen to the other if you suppress the Lycan?"
"You— "
"They will flourish. But fret not. I am not going to blame your incompetence. In fact, I would like to... thank you. Now, I am finally one with my body."
"One with your— "
"Oh... you wouldn’t understand." Matthew’s lips lifted into a devilish grin as he stared at Ava. "But she will."
"Ava?"
"My mate," Matthew said. "My Queen."
"What are you talking about?"
"He sees you as his mother," Matthew said. "He cares for you and respected you as a child would. You are alive because of that memory. But that... Matthew is no longer here." Matthew slowly twirled the glass. Staring at his own reflection on the red liquid, Matthew continued, "I didn’t kill you when you stopped me earlier. But I might just kill you now."
Baba stared at him in disbelief.
"Though... I am grateful. You used my relic and gave me this body," Matthew took a small sip from his wine. "And for that, I am giving you the chance to leave. Do not disturb my woman when she sleeps."
"What do you think would happen if Ava knew that you— "
"What made you think that she doesn’t know it... yet?" Matthew snorted. "Here is a better question." Matthew got up. He approached Ava and sat on the bed next to her. "What made you think that she didn’t know about my existence even before I came here?"
