Chapter 276: Bloodshed

"Patriarch..." Queen Luna took a sip of her tea. "Have you heard of what just happened to my son when... Miss Woods was kidnapped?"

"That— "

"Matthew blamed my son and... unfortunately beat him up."

"My Queen— "

"No need. It was the fact and I suppose it would be comical of me to deny them in front of someone like you." Queen Luna uttered. "The succession has been proven more difficult because we are aware that his highness Matthew had more strength and speed."

"But he refused to follow the rules, the tradition."

"What is tradition in front of strength?" Queen Luna said. "Isn’t this the reason why there were still many of the nobles who supported him? If only, they would think about the future of the Lycans and support whoever it is that would save our race."

"My Queen, I can assure you that you have the utmost support of the De Cene family."

"And by support you mean— "

"I just talked to the King." Patriarch De Cene uttered. "A conference between Lycans and Weres will start in a few days."

"A conference?"

"Yes. While we have been tackling each other for politics, something is happening in the outside world."

"Explain yourself."

"Hybrids and Rogues."

"Rogues?" Queen Luna lifted her eyebrow. Rogues had been a problem for the Weres before she was even born. In fact, the Weres actually have an annual conference to talk about this matter. But... this never happened inside the Lycan Kingdom in the past. "The King agreed to host the conference?"

The King and the overall, Lycan community have allies in the Were community. The Lycans rule them but at the same time, the King gave them autonomy to do whatever they want. This was very dangerous for the throne but the King and the next Kings including King Josiah made it clear that they don’t want to rule over the Werewolves and other Weres.

Because of this, many weres thought that the Lycans were actually looking down on them because of their superior strength.

Even Queen Luna thought so too. After all, the Lycans were in fact stronger than other weres. Moreover, Lycans live longer than any other Weres out there. She thought, the Lycans just wanted to preserve their bloodline and stop the other Lycans from procreating outside of their kind.

She had long forgotten the reasoning of the King who started this practice. All she knew was that the other Weres except for the Werewolves are hostile against the Lycans.

Over the years, there had been signs that the other weres such as WereLions and WereTigers started to work against the Lycans. But the Lycans were able to survive not only because of their superior strength. It was also because of their witches.

"Yes. The King agreed to host the conference a week from now. I believe this might come as a surprise since I have never heard of any King hosting such an event in the past. However, the King somewhat agreed to my suggestion. If we wanted to survive. If we wanted to see our race flourish. Then we need to make changes. And it should start with our relationship with the other races."

The Queen frowned.

Right now, everything inside her head was like a pile of mess.

She wanted to get rid of Matthew and make her son the official heir. She wanted to talk to her own husband and convince him to stand with Drigo. And then this happened.

What is happening?

Josiah never cared about any of this in the past!

Queen Luna had lived with the King for tens of years and this was the first time that the latter showed concern about what was happening outside of this world, of their world!

"The Lycans had long isolated ourselves from the events that do not concern us. We stayed hidden from the malicious eyes of our fellow Weres and mankind. Why would he agree to host the event now?"

"Perhaps the King wanted to test his sons." Patriach De Cene said.

"You mean— "

"The appearance of Hybrids and Rogues should be the perfect test for the princes."

Queen Luna widened her eyes. If Patriarch De Cene was right, the King would surely send both Matthew and Drigo outside to deal with these issues! Meaning the King could easily ask Matthew to deal with the Hybrids and Drigo to deal with the rogues.

It would be bloodshed.

But this is also an opportunity!

If that happens, it would be easier to use Ava and prove that she’s working for Trillium. And maybe... just maybe even drag Matthew into the matter.

As if sensing her thoughts, Patriarch De Cene smiled.

"Isn’t it the perfect time, My Queen?"

"It is indeed the perfect time to show off." Even if they can’t use Ava against Matthew, they could still do something about Matthew’s mission and use him as a stepping stone for Drigo to show his brilliance.

"I am confident that my son will win," she mused. Drigo already has experience in running the Kingdom. He isn’t like Matthew who was nothing but a young pup who taught highly of himself because of his blood.

"Well then..." Patriarch De Cene took a sip of his own coffee. "It is only wise that I tell you everything that I know about the current problem outside of this place."

"Absolutely," Queen Luna uttered with a huge smile on her face. "I would like to be a part of the preparations." Of course, she’s going to talk to the King about this matter as well. Of course, she’s not planning to tell him the deal that she just has with the Patriarch.

"My Queen... you are indeed very wise," the Patriarch got up and bowed. "May I excuse myself? I still have a lot of things to attend to."

"Of course."

"Thank you, My Queen. Please expect my people to send an update very soon." With that, Patriarch De Cene walked out of the Queen’s drawing room, victory written all over his already wizened face.
