Chapter 278: Lady Julliane

Ava had another dream.

This time, it was of her and her father.

She frowned as she stared at the little Ava nestled in her father’s arms. She couldn’t remember a scene like this but that might be because she was too small, too little.

"So what happened to the King?" Ava asked, her voice tiny.

"He was forced to leave to save the princess."

"But what about the Queen?"

"The King never saw the Queen again."

"But I thought fairytales have happy endings?"

"You see, not all fairytales have a happy ending."

When Ava frowned. Her father added, "Though, It’s still a happy ending. The Princess is safe, remember?"

"So the princess will grow up without her mother? Wasn’t she just like me?"

Her father paused. Then a sad smile appeared on his face. "Yes. She’s just like you. And you are alright, aren’t you?"

"Yes." Despite saying this, Ava had a sad look on her adorable face. "So what will happen to the princess now?" she asked.

"She will live a long life away from the monsters that took her mother."

"Why does she need to live away from those monsters? Wasn’t she going to take her mother back?"

"No. It would only put her in danger."

"Oh... so the monsters are still going to find her?"

"Probably. But one thing is for sure. The King will do his best to protect the princess."

Ava nodded. Then she hugged what looked like a small dog stuffed animal. It was brown and Ava couldn’t remember having one before.

At this point, Ava started to wonder if this was just a dream or her hallucinations.

Slowly, her gaze blurred and the next thing that she saw was...

"Huh?" The frown on Ava’s face grew even deeper.

Wasn’t this Gabriella?

What was she doing outside of...the window.

Ava looked around and found Ava playing in what looked like a daycare center. Other kids were playing not far away from Ava. This time, Ava looked like she was four or five. Again, she couldn’t remember it.

When the adult Ava looked out of the window, Gabriella was no longer there.

What the hell was that?

Ava couldn’t understand anything about this dream! How could she see Gabriella outside of a daycare center where Ava was staying?

Ava bit her lips.

Her father died when she was seven.

After that, she was taken in by the system and had to bounce into various foster homes.

She had stayed in a lot of homes until Gabriella found her. At that time, she was certain it was the first time that she had met Gabriella.

Soon, Gabriella took her in a long with another child... and that was her brother. Phil.

Of course, her opinions changed when she discovered the real facts about that adoption. It turned out that Gabriella only adopted them to become experimental rats for the Hybrids. Still, something about this story didn’t add up.

If Gabriella was indeed the cold-hearted bxtch that adopted them for the sake of the experiment then... why did she sympathize with Ava and didn’t gave her up? Why did she only let them experiment on Phil?

Was it really just because of some sympathy? Or was it because of something else? Something that involves Ava’s father?

Not long after Gabriella disappeared, Ava’s father appeared. He looked happy as he hugged Ava and carried her into his car.

"Why— Why are we packing again?" Ava asked as her father put it on a child seat. "Are we leaving again?"

"Yes, I’m sorry Princess but I just found a new job. We have to leave as soon as possible."

"But what about my... friends?" Ava asked.

"Did you have one?"

This time, Ava said nothing. She sighed and looked at the daycare center as her father started driving the car.

For the second time, Ava’s vision started blurring.

When her vision cleared, Ava saw...

"Baba?"

It was Babaylan.

She was in a garden talking to a beautiful woman with long black wavy hair and beautiful golden eyes.

"Lady Julliane... It was clear that the King does not give you anything that you deserve," Baba said. "Why stay?"

The woman elegantly lifted her teacup and smelled the hot tea with her eyes closed. Now that Ava had a closer look, this woman looked like a goddess! White pale skin, long beautiful lashes, and pink supple lips. How could someone be this... beautiful?

"He wanted a child. It was something that I could not give him. It’s only fair that he would grow some resentment over the years."

"Lady Julliane, even for a werewolf, your body is weak, why do wish to have a child? Was it just to keep him happy?"

"A child would not save my marriage, Babaylan." The woman had a sad smile on her face. "I had been aware of that since he— found his mate."

"It was nothing but rumors."

Lady Julliane stared at Baba. "He never once looked at me the way he looked at her. He never once spent weeks with me when I was sick. The King had never treated anyone like that before."

Baba turned quiet.

"She might not be his mate but it was clear. He loved her. More than he ever loved me."

"Lady Julliane."

"It’s fine Baba. I had no hopes of rekindling the romance that we once had. My only hope is to have a child. I would give everything to have one."

For a few seconds, Baba turned quiet then with a serious tone, she asked. "Everything?"

Sadly, Ava didn’t hear Lady Julliane’s answer as she felt something pull her out of her dream.

She let out a loud gasp as she jolted up. The sound of crickets filled her ears.

Sweat covered her body.

"Matthew?" she looked around. She had fallen asleep next to the lake and Matthew... Matthew was not here. In fact, Ava couldn’t feel him inside the sealed space at all! For some reason, her heart started racing.

An ominous emotion wrapped around her. freewēbnoveℓ.com
