"My lord," the humanoid form appeared behind a tree. Then it knelled towards Matthew yet it didn’t dare to show itself.
Matthew didn’t answer. Instead, he stared at the stars in the sky as he stood at the edge of a cliff. His hand was folded behind him. From here, Matthew could perfectly see the lake that looked as beautiful as the skies. He just finished sorting out the memories inside his head. And by now, his dislike for this place had doubled.
When he woke up in that bed, his memories had been messy. All he knew was the fact that Eve or Ava was his. But now, everything inside his head had been sorted out.
"It has been a while," Matthew spoke after a few minutes of silence. His eyes never left the skies.
Earth.
Its skies were vast and wide.
Yet, it was small.
Does that make sense?
"How long has it been?" Matthew asked.
"A thousand years my lord."
"Ah... this place has changed." Matthew looked at the shadow of the man. "And so are you."
"My lord, this subordinate wanted to—"
"No need," Matthew narrowed his eyes. Once again, he stared at the skies. Matthew’s memories and his were now one. But his magick refused to fuse with this body. "It was no one’s fault," he said.
Matthew could only think of one reason. And that is the Lycan blood that is inside this body’s veins.
Matthew continued staring. The world... hasn’t changed that much. A thousand years had passed and the same greed rule everyone’s heart. How comical.
"Have you found his descendants?"
"No my lord."
"Any traces of him?"
"No my lord."
Matthew’s lips twitched.
"My lord, with all due respect it has been a thousand years. The last record that showed his name was in 1028 when he was released from exile. By now— "
"He is alive," Matthew said. "And well." And he must have known that he is back. A sinister grin appeared on Matthew’s face.
"Find him," Matthew continued.
"Yes, My lord."
"Tell me about the others."
"We have been waiting for your return. Shall I instruct them to visit this plane?"
"No need. Stay where you are. I shall call you when I need your services."
"Yes my lord."
"For now I want you to do something..." Ava reached out toward one of the stars. "I want you to find out everything about Eve. She— She is neither a human nor a demon yet she has the magick comparable to our race. The humans must have done something to her." A Human’s greed is endless.
In fact, the reason why he was here is because of humans and their greed for power. Even the reason why he had to stay in that hellish place waiting for someone foolish enough to use his relic was because of human greed.
And now, his Eve had to suffer because of human greed.
"Yes my lord."
"Ah, tell me about those people. They dared to make deals with demons. Surely, they must have done something during the time that I was in that place." Matthew uttered.
"Those people had created an organization that aimed to hide the existence of shifters and witches as well as other supernaturals away from the eyes of the humans. They have used this as an excuse to experiment on humans."
"Tell me more."
"Unfortunately, we didn’t get too close. We were... very careful and chose not to dig further. We don’t want them to know that we still exist in this world."
"Good move," Matthew mused. "But time has changed. It is time to pick sides. Order a legion of our people to investigate. We need to know what is going on. If those people dared to make deals with demons, there is no stopping them from making deals with the celestials and the occupiers of the other realms."
The last time that the humans made a deal with demons, war erupted. Though, the demons were winning, many humans found out their secrets and ended up creating traps that would trap them in small pocket realms. Moreover, they have started to use witches with the ability to walk on other realms to do dirty work.
Those humans called them... dream walkers.
"Ah... have you found my ring?" Matthew asked.
"No, my lord."
"You have to find it." Or else, the wolf that he had been trying to suppress would be able to control this body. And once that happens, it would be hard for him to defeat that wolf again.
"You have to find it and get it back. No matter the cost." Matthew doesn’t have much time. He needed that ring so he could permanently stay inside this world without suffering some backlash.
He needed to stay here.
With Eve.
With his Eve.
"You may go. Tell Thorrod to come."
The Humanoid Shadow put his hand on his chest before he disappeared. Not long after, another shadow appeared.
"My lord," It was a feminine voice, tiny and sharp. "How may I serve you?’
"Blend in her shadows. Guard her with your life."
The shadow didn’t ask questions. Instead, it placed its hand on its chest and slowly blended into the dark.
As if on cue, Ava’s voice reached Matthew’s ears. "Matthew?"
"Hey..." The sinister glint of Matthew’s eyes vanished as if it was never there in the first place. He gave Ava a gentle smile. "I was looking at the stars."
Ava pouted.
"Without me?" she asked.
In response, he pulled her in his arms.
"I was looking for the perfect place to show this to you."
"The stars? We can see it from where we were earlier."
"No." Matthew shook his head. Then he removed a velvet box from his pocket. "This..."
He opened the box and revealed a ring.
"Will you marry me?" Matthew asked.
A thousand years ago, he was foolish enough to let her go.
Not today.
Not again.
Ava’s mouth dropped. She stared at the diamond that sparkled like the stars then, into Matthew’s silver eyes.
