Chapter 28: She had him

The smell of blood and burnt flesh filled Matthew’s study. Two bodies lay lifeless on the ground. Matthew looked at his own brother with disgust.

"Using magick against me?" he hissed.

"I have no choice brother." Kieran Graydon smiled gently. Yet to Matthew, that smile showed nothing but contempt. "Mother and father asked you to come back. You didn’t. Were you expecting them to sit and watch you waste your time in this... mundane world?"

"What I do has nothing to do with them."

"You are the future King of Lycans!"

"Not anymore." Matthew eyed two of his men who were lying on the ground. Life was no longer visible in their opened eyes. Then he stared at the culprit. Erenes. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

Donned in black, the woman’s fox-like eyes and sharp features were indifferent. Against a strong elder witch like Erenes, the Lycans working for Matthew were powerless.

Irritated, Matthew tried to stand. A curse left his lips when he felt his limbs burnt with indescribable pain. He grimaced. He could try and break free from the spell but that would make them doubt this strength. Moreover, he still needed to buy time for Ava. He couldn’t let them know that she was here.

"I am not going back," Matthew uttered.

"Give up Matthew. You are useless against my magick." Erenes snorted. "Not even the King could withstand my magick."Confidence laced her tone.

"Come home brother..."

"No!" Matthew growled as blood trickled down his lips. The pain was causing him internal injuries but he didn’t care. He wasn’t going to let them inside his head.

"Really? Then.... Erenes... do it."

"Your highness, he might not— "

"I said— " An evil glint appeared in the man’s dark gray eyes. "Do it."

However, before Erenes could do anything, the woman focused her attention to the space just behind Matthew. Then she asked. "Who is there?"

When no one answered, Erenes turned towards Matthew. "You are hiding someone. Was it that witch?"

"What witch?" Kieran asked.

"He is working with a strong one."

"Is it someone as strong as you?"

"No." Erenes answered almost immediately. "Young and strong but not as strong as me."

Hearing this, Matthew’s heart went into a frenzy. A thick suffocating atmosphere suddenly descended inside the room.

*Crack*

The sound of Matthew’s clothes ripping echoed inside the office.

"He is going to lose control..." Kieran uttered. "If that happens..."

"I know what to do. Let me take care of this. You just need to find the witch."

"Then find her," Kieran ordered the two large Lycans that were standing behind him. "Bring her here. Dead... or alive."

"No need."

When Matthew heard Ava’s voice, he almost lost his cool. His eyes turned bloodshot, veins started appearing on his temples. His nails grew longer and hairs started appearing on the back of his palm. He watched as Ava walked inside the room.

When the two Lycan behind Kieran tried to stop her from approaching, she held her palm and said, "Vanish." Almost immediately, the two disappeared.

"You— "

"You wanted to see me?" Ava’s eyes were on Matthew.

"Your highness, please get behind me." Erenes said in a low voice. The fact that Ava easily made two Lycan’s vanish must have frightened the older woman.

Despite being bound by magick, the wolf inside Matthew burst into a puddle of laughter. It looked like being saved by his own mate didn’t affect its pride. Instead, the wolf proudly laughed at their own stupidity.

"Isn’t she— "

"Just listen to me!" Erenes didn’t wait for another second as she moved in front of the Prince. "This is a strong one."

"I thought you could easily handle her?"

"Handle me?" Ava snorted. "With just you?" She held her hand and chanted a spell unknown to Matthew. Almost immediately, the bind inside his wolf vanished.

"What have you done?" Erenes gritted her teeth. "How dare you intervene with a witch’s spell?"

"I should ask you the same thing..." Ava walked past them and towards Matthew. She touched his now tattered clothing until her palm reached his bare shoulder. Almost immediately, the cuts and wounds that he had earlier healed at an astonishing pace.

Even Kieran gasped at the sight of the golden light that seemed to enveloped Matthew.

"Aside from shifters... I hate people who interrupt me when I’m using my magick." Ava turned towards Erenes and Kieran.

"This is a business of a Royalty."

"I am working for a Royalty, idiot!" Ava hissed as she turned towards Matthew. "Who is this ugly man?’

"Ugly..."

Matthew almost burst out laughing. By now, the pain that he felt from being forcibly suppressed by Erenes’s strong magick was no longer a problem. He looked at Ava without hiding the amusement inside him.

"My brother."

"You don’t look like brothers." Ava said. Turning her gaze towards the red faced Kieran. "Yes... you look different. Was he perhaps... adopted?"

Matthew smirked.

"Different mothers," he said.

"Ah... then that should explain it."

"You—" Kieran tried to push the wary Erenes away from him. "You think I can’t kill a small witch like you?"

"Your highness please shut up!" Erenes hissed.

"Erenes! What are you— "

"I am here to keep you safe! Now be a good boy and shut up!" Erenes said. Since earlier, her eyes never left Ava. She spread her arms, her eyes venomous as she added, "Working with another witch that isn’t a member of our community. I think the future King of Lycans has become muddled."

"Why don’t you tell them that?" Matthew uttered. "Tell them that I have become muddled. Tell them... they can make Kieran their King."

Erenes didn’t answer while Kieran looked uncomfortable. Seeing this, Matthew snorted.

"Oh, I forgot. I am the strongest Lycan alive." Without the forbidden spell that Erenes used against him, Matthew would have killed them by now.

Erenes narrowed her eyes towards him.

"The King ordered me to use force if necessary. You cannot blame me or your brother for resorting to forbidden magick!"

"Is that so?" Matthew uttered. "Is that why you intended to harm my wolf in the process?"

"You— "

"Leave." Matthew said. "Leave now. Before I change my mind."

"Brother— "

"With her by my side," Matthew uttered. "Your witch cannot touch me, brother. Are you willing to fight me to death?"

That shut Kieran up.

"Now then... are you going to leave? Or... "

"We are leaving!" Erenes uttered. "I will inform the king about this matter."

"Go ahead."

"Your witch might be powerful but... she’s alone." Erenes warned before she waved her hand. "Remember that." Slowly, her and Kieran turned into ashes before they vanished into thin air.

Matthew only smirked. The wolf inside him was screaming. She was his mate!

She was the mate of the future Lycan King.

She was never alone.

She had him.
