Chapter 27: Dreams and Guilt

Ava realized that she could enter into other people’s dreams when was sixteen.

It was when she had been horribly bullied that she cried herself to sleep. And right before she drifted into a slumber, she thought of revenge. Goddess, she thought of horrible things that she could do to the people who had hurt her.

That was when she dreamt of... watching them. The experience felt surreal. It felt like she existed but she didn’t at the same time. The dream just appeared inside her head and she honestly thought it was just some bad joke of a dream that was the product of her hatred.

She should have known better than to actually think that a witch’s dream didn’t just mean nothing.

As she watched her classmate in her dreams pick some violets, she suddenly felt irritated and wished that a snake would suddenly appear and bite the girl.

And it happened.

A black snake appeared out of nowhere and bit her schoolmate.

Then Ava woke up.

She thought the dream was a bit weird but didn’t think much of it. Instead, she went back to sleep and woke up the next day refreshed.

It only registered that her dream might not have been a normal dream when she overheard the girl talking about being bitten by a dark snake in her dream. She was shivering as she told her friends how violets now scared her as they reminded her of the snake from her dreams.

On that next night, Ava made it her life long mission to try and see if she could do what she did the other night.

This time, she thought of dreaming about the same girl.

And she did.

Instead of flowers, she saw the woman playing basketball. It was the woman’s favorite sport.

This time, Ava thought of making the girl jump and fall into a never ending abyss. The sensation would be enough to wake the woman up.

Then she watched as the woman fell into a dark hole, never landing onto anything. She watched as the woman screamed and screamed until she woke up.

The very next day, the woman talked about her nightmare again.

Elated, Ava silently celebrated her ’harmless’ prank.

At that time, she didn’t understand the consequences of using her abilities.

On the third night, she did the same thing. As well as on the fourth night.

She watched as the woman lost weight and abandoned her friends. Ava thought she should give the woman a taste of what she did to the students that she bullied. free𝑤ebnovel.com

When Ava realized that she was taking it too far, it was already too late.

The woman had a breakdown, killed her family then jumped into a bridge never to be seen again.

It was a sin that Ava confessed only ever to Gabriella. And then, it was Gabriella who taught her how to use these abilities for the good.

Gabriella was a history teacher. However, the history that she was so good at was actually the Wiccan’s history. So, it was easy for Gabriella to find a similar case of her ability in the past and was able to teach her a few tricks to at least pay for her sins.

Gabriella thought they could use the ability to predict the future and for a moment, they succeeded. Sadly, it predicted Gabriella’s doom.

Thinking back, the younger Ava was indeed very reckless. She refused to go to a school for witches and thought she could control nature with talents alone. How foolish.

To hide her abilities, she used Trillium and its influence. She needed an ultimate excuse and Trillium’s autonomy immediately attracted her attention. The fact that she was exempt from most laws that bound a witch was convenient enough for her.

Trillium never asked for an explanation from their officers. It’s either you do your job or not. No explanations. No protocols. It’s the ends justifying the means. Ava loved that. She loved the secrecy. She loved that she could use the organization to explain the unexplainable.

But everything changed when she dreamt of a man who was dreaming of her.

Matthew.

By now, she was almost a hundred percent sure that the man in her dreams was... Matthew Graydon.

Usually, her dream walking abilities would only affect people she had met before. Or at least people that she knew. But Matthew was none of those two.

He was a stranger who arrived in her life and swept her off her feet. Like a damn prince who was fated to marry the unfortunate princess.

So, Ava did a spell she hadn’t done before to try and stay away from him.

Mental Projection.

This time, she wanted to get into Amelia’s head even if she was awake. She is going to stay inside her head for a short time and hopefully figure out where she is.

But the moment she opened her eyes, Ava immediately knew that she was not in Amelia’s head.

She was somewhere... outside of her body. And she could see the man that she had been thinking about while casting the spell.

Matthew.

However, the Matthew that she saw was far from the Matthew that stood outside of the circle earlier. The Matthew before her was covered in blood, his eyes bloodshot, two large fangs could be seen in his mouth. Sadly, Matthew’s surroundings were hazy, blurry and dark.

It seemed that whatever happened, Ava could only focus on Matthew.

But why?

"Give up, brother. Come home with me. Father and mother sent me here to take you back."

Ava focused her attention to the source of the voice.

It was a man who looked a little like Matthew. The same features, same gray eyes. However, an ominous emotion surrounded the man.

"I said— "

"Give up Matthew. We both know you are weak against Erenes."

Erenes?

Ava frowned when the man who spoke was once again swallowed by the fog.

"Give up Matthew. You are useless against my magic." A woman’s voice echoed.

"Come home brother..."

"No!" Matthew growled. His voice seemed to awaken something inside Ava. Something she could only recognize as primal.

"Really? Then.... Erenes... do it."

"Your highness, he might not— "

"I said— " An evil glint appeared in the man’s dark gray eyes. "Do it."

However, before Erenes could do anything, the woman focused her attention to where Ava was standing. She glared at the space. Then Erenes asked. "Who is there?"
