"I heard she didn’t have any formal training?"
"Well... what do you expect from a witch who lived without her parents?"
"An orphan?"
"That’s what I heard."
"I heard she attacked one of his highness’s guards and put him in a coma for months because of some illusion."
"That’s a little too much, isn’t it?"
"What would you expect from someone who never actually learned witchcraft? She couldn’t control her magick. That’s why she put someone in a coma."
"Shhhh.... She’s looking at us."
"So what if she could hear us? I heard Munoz’s family were pretty upset because of what happened!" (Munoz was the knight that Ava defeated. He is one of the spies that the King sent with Matthew under the guise of guards/ knights.)
"I heard the same."
"His family is a well-known family of warriors. Offending them wouldn’t do you any good."
The whispers around Ava continued. Well... it wasn’t exactly whispered since Ava could clearly hear them. But she didn’t care. She stared at the illustration of what looked like an orchid or a rose. Apparently, this flower doesn’t exist even in the outside world. It only exists in a plane somewhere.
And now, the Queen specifically wanted this flower.
Sadly for them, Ava wasn’t planning to cooperate.
She looked up in the sky and sighed. Then she waved her hand and a chair appeared in front of her. She quickly made herself comfortable.
"Excuse me... what are doing?"
As expected, a ratty voice came from behind her. It was that woman from earlier.
By now, she had learned that the woman’s name was Mildred. And the name perfectly fits her.
"I am trying to think..." Ava responded as a large dark shade appeared on her hand. She put it on and stared at the sky, her position extremely languid, lazy even.
"You are sitting down... while thinking?"
"Yes," Ava said. "Keeps me relaxed."
"You— didn’t you just hear what I said? You cannot eat if— "
"I know. Not planning to eat anyway." Ava still had potions that doesn’t taste good. It would definitely last her for a few days, maybe even a week or two. Now the event would be three days from now. Meaning....
She smirked at the thought.
"You don’t know how to do it?" Mildred asked. She was now hovering in front of Ava, using her body to block the sun. She rested her hand on her waist in a very comical manner.
"Nope."
"Then you— Aren’t you going to at least try?"
"Why try when you already know you will fail?"
Mildred looked speechless with her gape mouth and furrowed brows. It looked like she wanted to say something but ended up not saying a word instead.
"Miss Mildred if she refused to work then that means we would have to do the work for her?" Someone from the back said.
"Isn’t that too unfair?"
"We’ve been here working since morning and she’s— she’s just enjoying the sun."
"I know!"
"Shut your traps!" Mildred hissed. "I will deal with this. You can continue working!"
But how could a witch who had never stepped foot out of this plane know how to deal with someone as subversive as Ava? One thing.
Punishments.
"You— " Just as Mildred was about to do something, another voice interrupted them.
"What seems to be the problem here?"
"Princess..."
"Your Highness..."
"Princess Francheska, you shouldn’t be here," Mildred said. She took a step back and bowed at the woman wearing a deep blue dress. "Please forgive us for not preparing something— "
"It’s alright." Francheska was looking at Ava. "I came for her."
"Your Highness— "
"I thought we were the ones who invited her?"
"That— "
"Since when did we let our guests work menial things like this?"
"Your highness this is the Priestess’s order."
"I will talk to Ulva. " Francheska stood before Ava. "I am Francheska." She held her hand and Ava gracefully accepted it.
"Ava."
"As much as I would like to talk here, my servants already prepared some tea for us. So..."
"Sure!" Ava got up and beamed at Mildred. "I would love to have tea with the Princess. I am sure that Miss Mildred wouldn’t mind that at all." freēwēbηovel.c૦m
"I— "
"Mildred?"
"Yes, your highness. I don’t mind at all."
Hearing this, the eyeglasses and chair disappeared.
"Shall we?" Ava asked.
Surprised, Francheska paused for a few seconds before she nodded.
"We are going to my palace."
"Of course."
Just as the two started walking away, Ava didn’t hesitate to look back and gave Mildred a wink.
"You really aren’t scared to offend the witches, are you?" Francheska asked when they were already out of the witches’ sight.
"Offend them? I wasn’t trying to." Ava wanted to say this was her natural instinct. Pissing people off. "This is me being friendly."
"Friendly?" Francheska stared at her.
"I am in a good mood."
Again, Francheska was speechless for a few minutes. "Still, I would like to apologize. For what happened. They shouldn’t have treated you like that. But after everything that happened... "
"I know." Ava nodded. "And I understand. Don’t worry about it." It’s not like they succeeded, right? Ava was actually a very simple character. She wouldn’t hurt anyone that didn’t hurt her. Isn’t that really simple?
"Though, I am more curious now, my Princess," Ava said.
"Hm?"
"Why asked me to have tea?"
Francheska pursed her lips.
"Can’t I just ask someone to have some tea without any hidden motivation?" Francheska asked.
Ava shook her head in response. She’s been here for a few days and she knew that everyone, maybe even the rats, have a motive.
"I just wanted to meet you, in person," Francheska said. "I have never met anyone who would dare do what are you doing."
"What do you mean?"
"While everyone thinks that we are enslaving the witches, not one witch or even Royal would actually dare to offend some witches in this place. And one of that which is the Priestess."
"Ulva?"
"You would even dare say her name out loud?" Francheska’s eyes were wide. "I have never heard someone say her name like that in the past!"
Ava lifted an eyebrow. But before she could ask questions, she noticed one thing.
"Where are we going?" Ava asked. "I have never seen this pathway before."
