Chapter 31: The Future King of Lycans

Matthew’s Mansion

Matthew stared at his older brother, his face devoid of any emotion.

"What took you so long?" Matthew asked.

"Is this how you welcome your brother after years of not seeing each other?" The man was elegantly sitting across Matthew, his chin was lifted, showing arrogance as he looked at Matthew. "Is this what your mother taught you while you stayed in this puny world?"

Matthew said nothing. Instead, he finished his bourbon— his brother’s favorite drink.

Seeing Matthew’s calm reaction, the man snorted. He then looked at Elizabeth who was calmly sitting next to him. "I’ve heard about the witch."

Matthew pursed his lips. Still, he didn’t utter a single word.

His older brother continued. "She’s so powerful that even Erenes said she was too powerful for her age."

"And?" Matthew leaned back. He lifted an eyebrow, his gaze unyielding.

"You know the rules. She must become one of ours."

"You want her to become one of your slaves." Matthew stated.

"Slaves.... " The man snorted. "In the whole Lycae you are the only one who would call them slaves. They are assistants. They were born to make us stronger."

"So they are slaves."

The man’s face contorted into an ugly scowl.

"Are you trying to challenge the rules?" the man’s hissed.

"What rule?"

"You— "

"Matthew, we already know about Ava. She’s powerful and she used to work for Trillium. If you want to keep her safe, the best way is to let her join us. Let her become one of our sisters." Elizabeth said. She had a righteous expression on her face. She eyed the man next to her. Seeing the pleased smile on the man’s face, she bashfully lowered her head.

"And if I don’t?" Matthew smirked. "You think you can stop me?"

"I— "

"Matthew as the future King of — "

"Stop it." Matthew interrupted his own brother. "I have no responsibility to the family who hated my mother."

"You— "

"Mother and father want you to come home and bring the witch with you."

"I can’t do that." Matthew shook his head.

"Will you stop it?" the man hissed. "As the future King you have no right showing your weakness! Your emotions— "

"Future King? Are you not older than me, brother? By birthright, you should be the King no?"

"You— "

"Right... you are weaker than me. Without your witch, you wouldn’t even show your face in front of me, no?" he crossed his long legs and smirked. "Without your witch, you would be trembling in front of me."

Most royals have their own witch slaves since the moment they were born. These witches have sworn loyalty to them the moment they turn twelve. Drigo Graydon, the man in front of him, became the Lycan that Elizabeth served when he turned sixteen while Elizabeth turned twelve.

However, not many people knew that the reason why Elizabeth became Drigo’s companion witch was because Matthew declined to have one. He refused to accept a companion witch that would act as his protector when he was in the outside world.

Of course, the King only agreed at the time because they always thought that Drigo would inherit the throne. When they discovered that Matthew’s blood was stronger, they started to pester him to come back.

They even went as far as to send a beautiful witch every now and then to try and seduce Matthew. But nothing worked.

The last thing that they did was actually send Elizabeth who grew up with Matthew and his brothers. Because of this, Matthew let her inside the mansion. However, not long after that, Ava Woods arrived and changed everything.

What happened the other day with Erenes was the first time that the Lycan’s actively tried to drag him back to Scotland where their Kingdom is located.

They thought they were going to succeed. After all, they used a powerful spell that could render Matthew’s wolf useless. However, Ava showed up and changed the outcome that they expected.

Now, they are back.

And they didn’t just want Matthew.

They wanted Ava and her abilities.

"I can’t do that." Matthew said. "She left."

"You let her leave?" Drigo snorted. "You think that would fool me?"

"She left on her own accord. Unlike you, I don’t let witches swear an oath to stay with me until their deaths." Matthew calmly answered.

"Lies! How could you let a powerful witch capable of making Elizabeth run, leave? Did you think we wouldn’t be able to find her?"

"I am confident that you can find her." As usual, Matthew didn’t show any emotion in his face. "Go and capture her if you can."

"You— "

Matthew smirked. Lycan’s are strong, far stronger than other shifters. In fact, they were considered Kings of the shifters because of this simple reason. However, this didn’t mean that Lycan’s are all mighty. Their strength has limitations and their ultimate weakness are ancient magicks that can affect their wolf.

Of course, these magick needed to be performed by a powerful witch. Witches like... Erenes and Ava.

Matthew’s eyes glinted as he smiled at the two.

"You can’t be serious. Did you really let a witch like that go?" Elizabeth asked, her face was extremely ugly as she glared at Matthew.

"What can you do about it?" Matthew lifted his chin, his gaze chilly.

"You— "

"Enough— " Drigo uttered in a cold tone. "This was the Queen’s decree. You cannot violate it. I am well aware that you are using the witch to find your employee. So... I will give you a month."

"A month?"

"Yes. Solve everything in a month. Come back home and bring the witch with you."

"And if I don’t?"

"You will know the consequences, Matthew. You know the history. This wouldn’t be the first time that we kill a descendant of the great Lycan King. You might be strong against most Lycan but remember... father is still stronger than you. Elizabeth can still bind your wolf."

Matthew’s face darkened. For the first time since Drigo arrived, this was the first time that Matthew showed a flicker of sincere emotion on his face.

"You are threatening me..." Matthew uttered.

"It’s a warning brother." Drigo smirked. "As your older brother, I am warning you of the consequences. The King of the Lycans cannot be this weak. If you continue acting like this..." Drigo didn’t continue his words. Instead, he got up and closed the buttons of his brown coat.

"In a month. I will... see you in Scotland." Drigo walked and stood next to Matthew. Then he patted his younger brother’s shoulder. "With the witch."

With that, Drigo walked out of Matthew’s office. He was calmly humming a tune. It was as if... he didn’t just threaten the future King of the Lycans.
