Chapter 324: Game

On the last day of the conference, it was announced that Matthew will deal with the rogues while Drigo will take care of the Hybrids. Many werewolves immediately complained as they wanted Drigo to deal with the rogues instead.

Drigo was the upcoming King, the thought.

Drigo was the stronger one, they whispered.

However, at the end of the day, Ulva said that they are going to respect each prince’s choice. Obviously, many assumed that Matthew chose the werewolves because dealing with the rogues is easier than the Hybrids. Which only proves that Drigo was stronger than Matthew.

"Well, the result was unexpected, " Drigo said.

"Was it?"Queen Margery said. She was enjoying the cocktail while watching everyone converse not far away from them. "I don’t like it, Drigo."

"Mother— "

"Don’t worry... my witch has sealed the place."

"I can take care of myself."

"Hybrids are just mindless killers, animals who don’t think. They attack and kill. And they are going to outnumber you and attack you. They won’t care if you have wounds or hear you once you beg them."

"Mother, you are underestimating me. You seem to have forgotten that before Matthew was even born, I was the strongest Lycan just after father."

"I am not underestimating you. I only want you to be safe."

"I have to do this," Drigo said. He already had plans, something that he couldn’t really tell his very own mother. He looked to his right and met his first wife’s eyes. Then he smiled.

Meanwhile, Ava was enjoying a conversation with Jude and Francheska. Just as she expected, the conference was boring except for the things about rogues that she found very interesting and somewhat mysterious.

Rogues are just werewolves who were kicked out of the packs or left on their own. They have this bad smell and usually do whatever they want. They aren’t protected by any packs so killing them can be very easy. However, over the past few years, rogues suddenly became stronger, and faster and had started to move in groups.

They still don’t belong in any pack but they have started to commit crimes and use their strength together. Just a few weeks ago, a gang of younger rogues, have robbed a lot of houses and stores in Seattle. They looked like teenagers but they are physically stronger and could easily kill a cop with their bare fists.

Obviously, this alarmed a lot of supernatural as this would put all the supernaturals at risk. And they were right.

A lot of cops and even the FBI started to investigate the matter and almost arrested one of them. Luckily, someone from Trillium stepped in and successfully arrested the three teenagers.

It was believed that they still have more members but until now, Trillium is still looking for traces of the gangs. Unfortunately, the robbery stopped and it was believed that they moved on to another state and were now trying to lay low to avoid attracting more attention.

Another case that they talked about was the case of a serial rapist. Another rogue that loved the thrill of hunting used his ability to kidnap women in the bars and leave them naked in the streets the very next day. Though this rogue never killed anyone before, his actions still attracted the attention of not just the cops and FBI but also the media.

Again, it was lucky that Trillium found him first and was able to detain him.

The shifter community wanted the assurance of trillium and the Lycans. Right now, the goal isn’t to eradicate all rogues. No. The goal is to lessen their crimes and investigate the reason behind the sudden increase of rogues and their increase in power.

"So, you are telling me that you really cannot find anything?" Ava asked. "Nothing at all?"

"As I said. There is nothing in their system that would indicate the involvement of drugs. It just looked like they suddenly became stronger overnight. They could easily overpower a Werelion which a normally untrained younger rogue would have a hard time fighting."

"What about training?" Francheska chimed in. Francheska didn’t join the conference and just stayed inside her library. However, she was still invited to join the after-party. She just heard the information from Ava and Jude. "Maybe someone was secretly kidnapping younger werewolves and training them. I don’t know this is just a conspiracy."

"We would have noticed something like that," Jude said. "Shifters have a strong instinct to protect their children. A missing shifter would be reported and Trillium would always do their best to find the child."

Shifter trafficking used to be a thing years ago. Some rich shifters are actually trafficking shifters from all over the world and selling them to the highest bidders for an underground fighting activity. However, trillium did its best to catch the culprit and lessen the trafficking.

Ava just quietly listened to their conversation. For some reason, she couldn’t help but think about what they found out when they investigated the Hybrids. Matthew told her that the thing that they used to transform the humans would also disappear into the system. He said that this was the reason why it was very hard to investigate the source of whatever it was they are using to transform humans into hybrids.

What if it was all connected? ƒreewebɳovel.com

"Anyway, I already sent you all the details of the investigation that we did about the rogue’s attacks," Jude said.

"Oh? There is a report? You think... I could maybe... read them? For research." Francheska smiled at Jude. Almost immediately, the man’s ears reddened.

"Sure. I could print it out and give it to you when you visit Alaska."

"Wait..." Ava looked at Jude. "She’s going to Alaska?" Then she looked at Francheska. "I didn’t know this."

"Oh, I forgot to tell you. Jude invited me. We are going fishing."

Ava blinked. Then she blinked again.

Really?

Fishing?

However, before she could say another word, she felt someone approaching her. She turned around and lifted an eyebrow.

"How may I help you?" she asked. The man who just approached her was someone that she met before. He was one of Matthew’s soldiers that the King sent to accompany him. No. He wasn’t just a simple soldier as he was courageous enough to have a duel with Ava.

Munoz.

Right.

That was his name.

The man had a duel with Ava and lost terribly.

Ava heard he fell into a coma because of the illusion that she used.

She stared at the man and wondered... what the fuck was this man up to now?

"We have met before," Munoz said. His tone was rather bland. It sounded like he was a kid that was forced by his parents to become friendly with someone. "I’m Munoz de Wylmot."

De Wylmot?

So, he was indeed a noble! Ava thought inwardly.

"We fought in the past and I terribly lost." Again, he sounded like he was just forcing himself to say it. "I really hope you don’t mind but my father wanted to personally meet you."

"Really?"

"Yes." Munoz then handed Ava a velvet box. She opened it and immediately lifted an eyebrow when she saw what looked like a very expensive brooch.

"What is this?"

"A simple gift from my family."

"Why?" she asked.

Why are they acting so suspicious and weird?

Before Munoz could answer her, she heard Francheska whisper. "It’s a game... V. They wanted you to fight in their stead. There should be a price somewhere."

"A game?" Again, Ava looked blankly at Munoz. What game?

Ava looked around and realized that everyone was staring at her.
