"Leave us," the King spoke, his voice had the authority that wasn’t normally there on normal days. He looked at his wife... "Now."
"Your Majesty, I think— "
"Why would you have her leave, your majesty?" Matthew was already back in his seat. He was smiling. "What is it that you are trying to hide?"
"Matthew this is not the time— "
"You do not talk when I am not talking to you... witch!" Matthew hissed, his eyes glowed red, surprising both the King and Ulva. The two of them got up, panic written on their faces.
"Matthew, what is going on?" Queen Margery asked. "What is happening?"
"For hundreds of years, the Lycans have stayed inside this plane to keep themselves safe from the humans. How convenient!"
"Everyone else... out!" Ulva uttered. "Including you your majesty."Ulva clapped her hand and an invisible force dragged Drigo, Queen Margery, and the others out. Then the doors closed with a loud bang.
"What do you— Ugh!" Ulva wasn’t able to finish her words when a dark smoke suddenly wrapped around her neck. She struggled as her feet left the floor, her body floated slowly towards Matthew.
"Let her— "
When the King tried to attack Matthew, he easily stopped him with the same dark smoke.
"You don’t belong here..." Matthew smiled. "Letting you stay was a mistake."
"Don’t hurt her!" The King struggled to speak, his face was already red, his body trembling. "I will explain. Let me explain everything!"
Matthew snorted. "Then tell me... why would the Shadow people come here?"
The king looked at Ulva. "Please let her go. She can’t breathe... she will die."
"Do not make it ask twice... " Matthew ignored the King’s words. Why would he let a witch speak? So she could cast her troublesome spell on him?
He could easily kill the witch but a spell from someone like her is just annoying. He wasn’t in the mood to deal with that now.
No. Matthew wasn’t exactly in the mood to deal with anything.
First and foremost, Ava was fighting for her life. And as much as he want to help her, he couldn’t. He couldn’t walk through dimensions.
"We had to hide here," the King said. "The Shadow world had been chaotic in the past few centuries... the world is dying. We needed a new place to stay."
"The Shadow Realm is dying?" Matthew asked.
The Shadow World was just exactly like Earth. However, it was stuck in the same timeline. 1346-1353.
Yes. The black death.
The Shadow World had been stuck in the same timeline over and over again. And everyone inside that world was aware of it.
The Black Death would start then it would end and it would start again.
So... what about the humans? What about the people who died because of the plague?
The simple answer is... they come back. And then they got sick over and over again. Everything that the plague destroyed would come back.
It was a never-ending cycle of death and suffering.
Is there a way to break the cycle? Since they already know about this cycle, why not just do something to change it?
They tried and failed terribly.
The occupants of that realm realized that they are helpless against it.
For instance, if someone was destined to die and try their best to avoid it, they would still die on the day that they were supposed to die.
What if they just end their lives before they were supposed to die?
They couldn’t. No matter how much they try to, they still wake up the next day to undergo the same cycle over and over again.
Why would someone stay in a place like that?
Good Question.
And the simple answer is they don’t.
Witches and other supernaturals who existed in that world had been trying to move into a different one. They had moved to the nightmare realm, the demon realm, even the Pits.
All they wanted was to avoid that brutal cycle of life and death.
"The years had become shorter... Right now the cycle starts after five years. The supernaturals had a prophecy that someone would destroy the Shadow Realm. So we left."
Matthew pursed his lips. Because of this loop, the time on Earth and Shadow Realm is different.
The time in the human world is just faster.
"So the experiments?" Matthew asked.
"How did you— " the King immediately looked at Ulva. He cleared his throat. "We had been trying to find stronger bodies to keep us alive."
Shadow people don’t die because of the loop. However, once they get out of their realm, they are susceptible to time and disease and everything else that nature offers. Meaning, they could now die from old age and diseases and never live ever again.
"So you were playing god," Matthew snorted. How amusing and disgusting at the same time.
"We didn’t mean to... if we know that you are here we never would have..."
"Enough..." Matthew smiled. He tilted his head and watch as the dark smoke started to engulf the King. The King tried his best to avoid it. He struggled. But it was futile. After the dark smoke had engulfed the King, the dark smoke that surrounded Ulva started engulfing her too.
"Don’t worry... I am not letting you die." Matthew said. "How could he let two useful specimens like this die just like that? After what they did to his Eve, the two needed to suffer before their death.
Moreover, Matthew didn’t think that this two could do this without the support of someone even more powerful than Ulva.
He recalled the mirror where Ulva talked to the man asking for dead royal Lycans.
That’s right. Those people should be from the Shadows too.
Or should he just kill them? Right.
Why would he give these people a chance to betray him?
Matthew started smiling.
Tracing people from the shadows is actually very easy.
He stared at the now pale Ulva.
"Matthew wait!"
Matthew immediately turned when he heard Ava’s voice. He didn’t waste any second as he dropped both Ulva and the King into the floor. He reached her with lightning speed.
Then he immediately pulled her into his arms.
She’s back!
His Eve was back!
