Chapter 332: Brains

Drigo felt like his throat started hurting when Matthew asked him such a question. His wife was the strongest knight that he had. Despite that, there is no way she could kill tens of Werewolves as easily as Matthew.

The smug smile on Matthew’s face was enough to hinder him speechless. He couldn’t read his thoughts but he knew... he knew that something else was coming. He thought of how Matthew lost his cool in the past and despite Matthew’s calmness now, Drigo could feel the same danger coming from him.

He is going to break.

And it would be bad if he continue antagonizing him now.

Matthew smiled at him before looking around.

"Shall I repeat my question?" he asked, his voice mellowed down. But something about it seemed so... dangerous. Drigo avoided Matthew’s gaze.

"With all due respect..." it was Alpha York. "May I say something?"

"Go ahead."

"The wolves aren’t crazy. We know what we can and cannot do. Even though rogues do not have packs, they still crave survival. I know you lost a lot of Lycan but so were we. Let me be honest. We have no reasons to let the rogues in. We are here asking for your help. We have no reasons to let them in."

"And?" Matthew lifted an eyebrow.

"All I’m saying is that... we didn’t let them in. However, I am curious about the rest of the Lycans."

"What are you trying to say?" Queen Margery asked.

"Don’t you see it? After the incident, are you still going to help us out? Someone wanted to ruin the essence of the conference! They didn’t want the Lycans to help us. No. They did not want the supernaturals to work together and help each other!"

Alpha York narrowed.

"Someone that will benefit the most from the accident."

"You are thinking too much," Matthew snorted. "But it’s good... it means you have the brains. I can’t wait to work with you and the rest." He leaned back and gave a relaxed smile. "I can assure you... I am going to enjoy it as much as you do."

"So what are you trying to say, Alpha York?" Queen Margery asked.

Justin put the discomfort at the back of his subconscious. Watching Matthew smile at him seemed ominous. Yet gave him shivers and Justin York never felt shivers before.

It wasn’t the kind of shiver that one would feel when it was cold. It was the kind of shiver that one feels when a predator was watching them from behind. Right now, Justin could vaguely feel something dark, large, and dangerous looming behind him.

He was tempted to look behind him but that would only make him look so silly. So he stared at the Queen instead.

"Right now, I could only think of one thing and that is... one person is trying to sabotage our alliance," Justin said. "Or someone wanted to raise the stakes."

When the conference ended, it was decided that everyone would pool money to help support the Lycans in their quest against Hybrids and Rogues. Justin wanted to say that whoever did it just wanted to raise the stakes.

Now that they already established the dangers of the rogues, it would be easier to ask for money. ƒreewebɳovel.com

Yes.

At the end of the day, Justin wanted to make it look like this was just a big... business.

It was all about the money.

"Preposterous!" Queen Margery hissed. "Are you trying to say that we wanted more of your money?"

"You have lost a lot of Lycans and witches. Aren’t you going to ask for compensation from us?" one of the Alpha said.

"Money, huh. What a fitting excuse." Matthew answered. "After that attack, we are not going to help you. Meaning, you will handle all the rogue problems on your own territory and once again charge an exorbitant amount of money from the smaller packs for the protection? Isn’t this enough motive for you to try and stop this alliance?"

"You— how could you accuse us of sabotaging the alliance?"

"Alright... calm down. Lower your voices." The King finally spoke. "Let us continue this conversation tomorrow. The dawn is coming. Go to your quarters. We shall continue— "

"We want to leave!" Alpha York immediately said. "If you think we would let you accuse us then you are wrong. We are leaving. This alliance is done."

"So you really are going to prove that this was your goal all along?" Drigo chided.

"This is not our goal! We have lost people too! How dare you accuse us without proof?" Justin got up along with the other Alphas. "Without proof, all you have are baseless accusations!" He looked at the other Alphas. "We are leaving!"

With that, Justin started walking about. But he stopped when Matthew suddenly appeared in front of him. He didn’t even feel the latter move!

Just what is up with this guy?

Since he saw what happened earlier, he had been trying to wrap his head around Matthew’s strength. He knew that Lycans are stronger but how could he be this strong?

"What do you want?" Justin asked.

Matthew smiled in response. Even though they were about the same height, Justin actually felt really small in front of Matthew. For some weird reason, he felt like he was staring at a giant.

"I wish you a happy journey, Alpha York," Matthew said. "Please expect my visit very... very soon."

"You are not welcome in my pack."

"Can your pack stop me?" Matthew lifted an eyebrow before smiling.

"You are threatening the Werewolves?"

"Just the ones who let those rogues in."

"You really think we let them in?"

Matthew only snorted in response. Then he moved away and waited for them to leave the room. After the wolves left the room, the others from Trillium and Keepers decided to go back to their quarters. Some of them are still humans and the exhaustion from the experience earlier had started to take its toll.

With the exception of Jude, Samuel and the Lycans, the other left the room. Now that everyone else is gone, Matthew finally looked at Ulva and the King.

"Shall we start?" he asked.
