The woman before her was staring blankly at the table. Her hands rested on her sides, her eyelids unmoving.
A bystander would easily mistake her for a statue, except for the fact that she was still breathing, really slow.
"She was not like this when she arrived here. She was... still talking. I showed you the tapes earlier. Though she didn’t tell us her name, she was very alive and... active." Jude stood beside Ava. His handsome face was distorted into an ugly scowl.
Ava nodded. While Lovella was still sleeping, Jude showed her the recordings. On it was the nervous Lovella when she just arrived here two days ago.
"The hex... was not activated then." Ava uttered in a serious voice. Yes. At that time, Lovella didn’t mention anything about being a witch or seeing the one who took the woman from Valdez. When Lovella mentioned that she saw someone that day, the hex immediately stopped her.
"Two things. First, I’m sure you already know this but the hex was created by another powerful witch. And second, I can undo it but... I can’t guarantee that her state of mind would get better." Jude already informed her that the hex, attacked the woman’s brain’s stem.
The brain stem started to rot the moment the hex was activated.
Actually, Ava encountered something like this in South America. More specifically, the witches in Brazil. She knew how dangerous it was for the victim as the curse will immediately activate as long as something triggered it. Moreover, the chances of survival would decrease after the first forty eight hours.
And according to Jude, Lovella had been like this for more than thirty six hours.
"Would you be able to identify who cursed her?" Jude asked.
"I can find traces of the magick but it won’t be accurate. Unless of course, you will allow me to rummage into her memories and do a soul search which could kill her."
Jude shook his head. "You can’t harm an innocent human."
She pursed her lips. She knew that Jude always looked like he was an arrogant young master but deep inside the man was soft and didn’t really like hurting innocents. This was another reason why they chose him for this position.
"Would you be able to undo it and at least save her?"
"I can," confidence laced her tone. "If there is anyone who could do it... it’s me. Of course, it’s partially because of money."
"Oh... shut up."
"I’m suspended, you know."
"You really think I don’t know that you are working with that Lycan?"
She lifted an eyebrow but said nothing.
"Nothing escapes from Trillium Ava."
"I know."
"And? Tell me... how much did they offer you to find that woman?"
"Big enough."
Actually she wasn’t surprised to know that Jude knew about Amelia too.
"And did you find her?"
"Why should I tell you?"
"So you didn’t."
She rolled her eyes in response. Then she turned and faced him. "You should mind your own business."
"Lycan’s are dangerous V."
"I know."
"However, a powerful Lycan and a powerful witch are enough to threaten... empires."
She squinted.
"What’s that supposed to mean?"
This time, Jude shrugged.
"Let’s undo the curse." Jude said.
"Hey...." She was about to ask more questions but Jude’s face told her not to bother. He wouldn’t say anything. However, she didn’t miss the tinge of worry that emanated from the man.
She followed him inside the room where Lovella was located. Ava eyed the thirteen candles that surrounded Lovella. Then she nodded at Jude.
"I will start."
With that, Jude took a few steps back until his back hit the glass wall.
Seeing this, Ava positioned herself at the back of Lovella. She then placed both of her palms on Lovella’s head.
The spell she was about to chant had one simple purpose. Undo everything that was done with evil intention. It could not really fix what happened but it had the power to undo a curse and not let it continue to wreak havoc inside the victim’s body.
Ava took a deep breath as she closed her eyes. She let her consciousness bathe in the magick that filled the blood inside her veins. Soon, the smell of something burning surrounded her.
Then she started chanting.
"Fasnian Skiuyain Lustiine. In the name of the Goddess of the Unholy Tempest. I ask thee to protect the weak and undo what was done to harm an innocent."
While Ava’s eyes were still closed, The thirteen candles that surrounded her appeared in her mind. The fire on those candles danced and flickered as if a strong wind just threatened to end their fire.
"Fasnian Skiuyain Lustiine. In the name of the Goddess of the Unholy Temprest. I ask thee to protect the weak and undo what was done." Her voice grew louder, more commanding.
Then she felt it.
She felt a low static from the woman’s head.
It was the curse.
And she knew it was trying to fight back.
Ava’s expression grew serious.
Right then and there, she knew that this curse wasn’t meant to be a simple one.
Simple curses don’t fight back! At least not like this.
Lovella’s head grew hotter.
"Fasnian Skiuyain Lustiine. In the name of the Goddess of the Unholy Temprest. I ask thee to protect the weak and undo what was done." She uttered in a strong voice.
But this didn’t stop the woman before her from trembling. While Ava couldn’t see it, she could feel Lovella’s body. It was starting to convulse!
"Fasnian Skiuyain Lustiine. In the name of the Goddess of the Unholy Temprest. I ask thee to protect the weak and undo what was done!"
"I ask thee to protect the weak and undo what was done!" she repeated.
"Goddess of the Unholy Temprest. I ask thee to protect the weak and undo what was done!"
Just as she felt that Lovella was going to succumb, the woman stopped moving. The static that flowed from Lovella’s body vanished. It was as if... it never existed in the first place.
Slowly, the candles that she saw inside her head calmed down. The thick suffocating pressure just now also disappeared.
However, what surprised her were the visions that suddenly floated in her head.
It were Lovella’s memories.
And on it... was a man she was very... very familiar with.
Phillip Woods.
Her brother.
