"What? What did you just say?"
Again, he pursed his lips and just stared at her.
"Tell me!"
"You are my mate."
"Impossible."
"I’m telling the truth."
"Witches... don’t have mates."
"But you do."
"I— " the crease between her brows deepened. She couldn’t sense any lies from him. But then again, she really couldn’t read his mind.
"You wonder how I knew about your abilities. It was because... it was a part of a prophecy."
She shook her head. "That’s not possible!"
How could it be possible? A witch and a Lycan is just impossible. There is no way that they were mates.
"Then what about the smell? The electric sensation? The attraction? Are you going to tell me that you didn’t feel it the first time we met?"
"You— " her chest raised and fell, confusion apparent in her gaze. The things that she had been feeling...when they were together.
Was it possible that it was because she was his mate?
No. It can’t be.
That is just impossible.
She stared at him, her gaze complicated.
The attraction was undeniable but... mates?
She had never heard of a witch who had a mate! It was simply impossible for someone who had magick coursing in their blood to have a destined one.
"I’m leaving."
To her surprise, he didn’t stop her. She walked out of the office as she heard him murmur the word: mine.
...
Ava was not in the mood.
Matthew’s words felt worse than seeing Jude today to undo a hex. She stared at the unassuming house in front of her. It was a two story cabin just outside of Anchorage. On the outside, the house looks cozy with its snowy porch and smoking chimney. Looking at it could easily make someone feel at ease.
But not her.
Until now, Matthew’s words still echoed in her head like a damn record player.
When she walked out of the door, Ava felt Matthew’s heart break. She felt his devastating anger and sadness, something that the man tried to control.
She knew he didn’t want her to see him weak.
The pride of a Lycan.
So, he stood there and watched her leave the mansion.
But how could she deny the raw emotions that she felt as he watched her car moving away from his house?
His emotions were too strong, she couldn’t help but shudder.
Hours later and the memories of his gaze still haunted her.
She eyed the address that Jude gave her.
This was the place.
Soon, her expression turned sour.
She looked around and continued walking towards the forest, ignoring the house that she was looking at earlier.
While the house looked mundane on the outside, it was actually surrounded by various enchantments that could easily kill anyone who doesn’t know how to open the secret portal where the Jude and the others are located.
"If you want to live... you can come out now." Ava uttered in a low voice. By now, she was just a few meters away from the spruce trees located at the back of the house. "Consider this your last warning."
Electricity flickered in her fingertips. The smell of something burning filled the air.
"Please.... "
Someone appeared to her left. It was a man wearing black. He held both of his arms up as he walked her way.
"Shifters," she uttered.
"We don’t want to fight."
"Then, why are you following me?" she asked. She noticed these people around her mother’s house earlier. She thought of fighting against them but she didn’t want to ruin the house that already needs renovation.
"We mean no harm." Another one came out from her right. It was another man, wearing the same black outfit.
"Answer my question..." she hissed.
"Mr. Graydon... we are Mr. Graydon’s men. We are here to keep you safe."
"Safe from what?" Matthew didn’t tell her anything about a guard! When he let her go, she assumed that he would try to see her again to convince her to stay. But secret guards?
Did he think she wouldn’t notice them?
These people are shifters. And the only reason why she didn’t hurt them is because they didn’t have any bloodlust or any intention of killing her.
To her, spotting a shifter is as easy as spotting a dark spot on a white shirt!
One of the men held a phone towards her. Irritated, she waved her hand and used telekinesis. In just a few seconds, the phone floated towards her hand.
"Matthew..." The phone floated towards her ears, her hand was still directed towards the two men. "What the hell are you up to?"
"You need protection." His voice was low. She could sense his foul mood just from his tone.
"No. I don’t."
"Can you just—"
"Tell them to leave this place. Or I will make them."
A sigh echoed on the other line.
She didn’t wait for him to respond. She tossed the phone back to the man.
"I will give you ten seconds to leave. Or you will regret it."
"But— "
When the electricity from her hand cackled, the man flinched.
"It will be one hell of a fight." Ava gave the man a sadistic smile. "But I can assure you.... You will not walk out of this place alive after... ten seconds."
This time, the two men slowly backed away before finally turning around to leave. Now, she didn’t know if they chose to leave because of her words or... if Matthew said something over the phone.
After all, their sense of hearing should be better than hers.
After making sure that no one was around, she let out a sigh and slowly made her way into the house. She opened it without any problem. frёewebnoѵēl.com
Then, she took three steps inside and chanted some spell that would give her access to the secret dimension inside the house.
Almost immediately, the smell of something burning surrounded her. Then, the interior of the house slowly changed. The once simple and cozy design now looked like a laboratory, with white paint and glass walls and white LED lights.
"I thought you wouldn’t come." Jude stood to her left. He was leaning against one of the glass walls, an arrogant smirk apparent on her face.
"I need money."
"Bullocks."
She shrugged in response. "Where’s your witness?"
"Sedated."
"Shall I go ahead and undo the hex now?"
"Actually... we just realized something." Jude shoved his hands in his pockets as he approached her. "We just found out that you— might actually know our witness."
Her eyebrow lifted.
"You already met her... once. Or at least that’s what we thought."He stopped talking and slowly made his way towards the hallway.
The two of them didn’t utter another word until they reached one of the rooms surrounded by glass walls. It was a two way mirror and they could see the person inside the room but the person inside could only see a mirror.
"That— " Ava didn’t continue her words as she squinted at the woman silently sleeping in the bed. "Isn’t that... Lovella?" It was the witch who served her tea when she was... inside Priestess Patricia’s house.
