Clearly, Matthew’s senses were better than Ava as she didn’t even notice someone around them. She frowned and started looking around. Company?
Where?
Then a sudden gust of wind surprised her. Suddenly, a portal appeared not far away from where they were standing.
It sparkled until it was large enough for a person to walk through.
"Ava!"
Ava almost jumped when Matthew moved in front of her, shielding her eyes from the woman who just arrived.
"Ava?"
"What are you doing here?" Matthew growled.
"Well, I thought I could help." The woman was none other than Francheska. "And Jude came along just in case..."
Ava tip toed and looked at Francheska then towards Jude who was looking around the place. The man was purposely avoiding her gaze.
"You are not welcome here."
"I am aware... but I am not here for you brother." Francheska answered.
"Can we at least go inside?" Ava said. "I’m starving."
"Ava!" Francheska tried to approach Ava but Matthew blocked her way.
"Move away!"
"Brother— "
"Move— "
"Hey, can you stop being an ass to your own sister?" Jude butted in. "It’s not like she wanted to cause some trouble. She just wanted to talk to her."
"Not when I’m here."
"Hey V, aren’t you going to stop him?" Jude asked.
"Can I?" Ava retorted. Can she really stop him? Matthew detected their presence even before the portal formed. And even if she wanted to stop him, there is no guarantee that Matthew won’t just kill them because... he was in a bad mood.
Despite the improvement in their relationship, Ava still cannot deny that inside Matthew’s body was Josef’s lunatic soul. This man loved blood too much, Ava wasn’t sure if he would be willing to cut even his sibling— or his body’s sibling.
"We should just go inside." Ava said.
In response, Matthew huffed and pulled Ava to his side then he started walking ahead of Francheska and Jude. The man was starting to walk too fast, that it almost felt like he was already dragging her. Good thing, she could easily cast her magick to keep up with him. Seeing Ava gliding as Matthew pulled her, Francheska sighed.
"How come we can’t do magick?" she asked Jude.
"I would answer that if you tell me if we did the right thing. I told you your brother won’t like it."
"I came to help. Isn’t that enough reason?"
"Help with what?"
"The rogues and werewolves? Now that I am allowed to leave that plane. I am taking advantage of everything and is going to do something about those wolves." Francheska said.
"You really think they were the ones who let the rogues in?" Jude asked. Jude knew that it was the werewolves but those informations were considered confidential. He didn’t dare to share them with Francheska.
"Of course! Those people really dared to come into my home and wreck havoc. I am going to find them and— "
"We should just go before Matthew has the chance to lock us outside. The night would be cold."
"Right." Francheska smiled and the two hasten their steps.
They may not have the magick to glide but they are faster and definitely stronger than normal humans!
After a while, the group finally arrived inside the cabin.
"You should go home," Matthew said. "This place is not for you."
"What does that mean?" Francheska was looking around the living room, she was touching the sofa and the blanket, the small bookshelf with only a dozen old books and the fireplace. "I love this place!"
"You have no business here." Matthew said.
"I do. In fact, I have business here. Jude just hired me. From this moment on, I am a member of Trillium. An agent."
Ava looked at Jude. She didn’t miss the guilt in his face.
"She is going to have training before she will become an agent," Jude explained. "And an exam. But she’s good. She can fight and she’s a Lycan. She’s stronger than most shifters. I’m sure she would pass."
"See?" Francheska had a large smile on her face. "So... I am here to hunt werewolves."
"There are no werewolves here," Matthew said.
"But— "
"I said, you cannot be here!"
"Hey Matthew?" Ava called out as she held his arm. "Do you want to do to the kitchen? I am hungry."
Matthew looked at her, stunned. Then the frown on his face earlier disappeared as he smiled.
"You wanted me to make lunch?" Matthew asked.
"Can you?"
"Of course." Didn’t spare the other two people a glance as he turned.
Ava smiled, she followed him after winking at Francheska. However, before Matthew could reach the kitchen he turned and added, "I am not making food for you."
"Oh... I can do it," Jude’s words surprised Ava. Really? Jude would cook for Francheska? Really?
Realizing that Jude already followed Matthew to the kitchen, Ava stopped walking and turned her attention towards Francheska instead.
"Did your father approve of you being in trillium?" Ava asked. Right now, she actually don’t have any good feelings about that organization.
"Yes." Francheska took a seat and smiled at Ava.
"He did?"
Again, Francheska nodded.
"But... that’s not the reason why you are here, right?" Ava asked.
"No."
"Are you going to tell me, then?"
"Well— " For a few seconds, Francheska hesitated. "I just thought I wanted to make sure that he treats you well."
"Hm?"
"It’s just that... I saw what he did back then and I thought he was really strong and possessive. I have read too much novels to know that people with that kind of aura are usually very jealous to the point of hurting the one that they love." Francheska said. "So... I am here."
"You are here because of a novel?"
"Yes and the werewolves."
"But you really decided to come here because of something that you read?"
"Yes. I just wanted to know if he was abusing you or something. I mean I don’t want to meddle. I know you are very smart but —" Francheska sighed. "Alright, I really wanted to know if he was forcing you to do something."
"Something like that?"
"I don’t know? I just thought he had all the qualities from those novels and it would be nice to be there in case he tries to isolate you from the outside world."
Ava blinked. Then she blinked again.
She was speechless.
