"You are saying that Matthew and I aren’t supposed to be here?" she clarified.
Matthew was not from this realm so it was understandable for her to say that. But how could she say that Ava wasn’t supposed to be here too?
"You are not meant to be... born." The Priestess said. "As for why, I do not have that information."
"I— " Ava was speechless. At this point, she was smart enough not to believe anyone’s words. But hearing someone say that was like a punch straight to her gut.
Was that the reason why her mother left?
Wait...
Did she even have a mother?
"I didn’t mean for it to sound hurtful but telling you the truth is better than hiding it. You have been struggling since you were younger. The fact that you were more powerful than most witches has haunted you. Accidents have happened that made you doubt if your magick were a blessing or a curse. Eventually, you were convinced it was a curse."
Ava blinked.
She hadn’t talked to anyone about that.
Aside from the fact that therapy is absolutely expensive, she just thought it would be a waste of time. She couldn’t really tell some therapist that she could practically kill people in their dreams and she was torn about feeling guilt or feeling happiness from their demise.
She didn’t want to be labeled as psychotic.
So she just decided to ride with the flow.
"Whatever it is that is weighing you down— let it go. The past belongs to the past for a reason and we can only learn from it."
Ava nodded. Still, the fact that the woman knew so much about her was kinda disturbing. Ava hasn’t met someone that could see someone’s past like that!
This woman was the exact opposite of Baba!
"What about Matthew?" Ava asked.
"I do not think I have the right to tell you about his own past." Priestess Anna. "Please understand... one mistake and he would kill everyone around me as I watched helplessly."
"Matthew would not do that," she insisted. Even Ava wanted to believe that Matthew isn’t capable of slaughtering innocent people.
In response, the Priestess shook her head. "It seems that you don’t know him that well."
That was true. Ava pursed her lips.
"His kind— you said his kind— " Ava said. "What is his kind?" Was he a demon? Someone from the Shadows? Ava had suspected he was a demon not just because of what Baba told her. It was because of what Damon told her about Josef.
"I cannot tell you a secret that does not belong to me," the Priestess uttered. This was already expected. After all, the woman was just strangled by Matthew a couple of minutes ago.
Yet, Ava still finds this frustrating. Extremely infuriating!
Matthew didn’t shy away from showing his strength because he wanted to intimidate the woman! At this point, Ava didn’t know if she should hate Matthew for what he did or praise his intelligence. Surely, the man was an expert at scheming!
"My apologies," Priestess Anna said. "But I have found solace in this place. I cannot do something that would harm the people that had been protecting me."
Matthew was right!
The Priestess is not from this realm!
"It’s alright, I understand."
"Though..." The Priestess gave her a weird look. "I am wondering about something." Soon, her eyes traveled from Ava’s face to her neck and breast and the rest of her body.
"How are you still alive?"
"What?"
"Haven’t you sensed it yet?"
"What?"
"Staying with someone like him... could deflate whatever magick that you have inside of you. And yet here you are... alive and well. You can touch him and even use your magick around him. I couldn’t help but wonder."
Ava said nothing. She knew it had to be the ring that Matthew gave her. The timing was just too much of a coincidence.
Perhaps, she survived because of the ring but It wasn’t enough to protect her from Matthew if they had sex.
And here she goes again...
Ava sighed inwardly. She couldn’t help but think about her own body. Her response towards him was almost illogical.
And now that she had heard about the danger of dying, her need to be fucked by him seemed to multiply by a bit.
And by a bit she meant... ten times.
Fucking ten times!
What a fucking masochist!
Ava cursed inwardly.
It was just curiosity, she convinced herself. She was just curious if the woman’s words about Matthew were true.
"Why?" Ava asked.
"Beings like him aren’t supposed to be with someone. That’s the only thing that I have to say."
"So... he is not supposed to be with someone." Then how come he had a fucking mate? A mate for crying out loud! "Who said so?" Ava asked.
And perhaps, her question surprised Priestess Anna as her eyes sprang back towards Ava’s. Then the priestess frowned.
"I cannot say more,’ the Priestess said. "I apologize. I hope he will spare my family as I have done my best to do his bidding."
What a jerk, Ava thought inwardly. That man left because he knew the Priestess wouldn’t say anything! Then he told her to call him when she wanted to talk!
He knew she would be upset so he left ahead of time!
Jerk!
Jerk!
Ava wanted to kick something.
"It’s alright." Ava let out a defeated sigh. She really needed to press Matthew about this matter. She needed answers.
"Though I am curious about something," Ava said.
"What is it?"
"Am I human?" Ava asked. She was certain she was not a Demon or a Daemon. Though she still has a little suspicion that she had their genes because she was related to them. Again, these are mere speculations.
In response to her question, Priestess Anna deadpanned. It was as if she already expected such a question yet she still doesn’t know how to answer it.
"The simple answer is yes."
"And the more complicated one?" Ava asked.
"No." The Priestess said. "You are not."
