Chapter 358: Existence 3

Her back started burning.

"Matthew?" Ava said when she suddenly felt like someone else was there with her. "Matthew?" she called out. For some reason, she could feel Matthew’s wolf around her, lurking in the darkness.

She heard a growl. Almost immediately, Ava turned around and flinched. It was too dark to see anything.

But she could hear someone’s footsteps, someone was approaching her. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"Ava?" It was Matthew’s voice.

"Matthew?" She frowned. She could feel his presence. Even if she couldn’t see him, she could feel him standing just in front of her. "Where are we?" What is happening?

"In the dark..." he touched the side of her face. "Were we belong..." His voice resembled an echo. Ava shivered from the sudden gust of wind that assaulted her senses.

"Dark?" Where they belong? What does that mean?

She swallowed as he caressed her cheek. A sudden emptiness flooded her body. Then comes the sadness. Her chest felt heavy and the pain in her back intensified.

"Soon... " Matthew said.

"What?"

"You and I... "he added. "Very soon."

"What are you— Hahp!" Ava gasped when the darkness disappeared. She opened her eyes confused. What was that?

She looked around the room.

She was alone and fully clothed.

The only indication that something happened between her and Matthew was the dull ache on her back.

She got up and walked towards the bathroom. Then she examined her back.

On it was something that looked like a mark. It wasn’t a tattoo or anything like that. Right now, the skin on the mark looked swollen and red, and burnt.

Yes. It looked like she was burned with some hot iron.

What happened?

Going out of the room, she tried to find Matthew but quickly realized that he wasn’t inside the cabin. Or somewhere nearby. Ava closed her eyes, trying to access her consciousness, and found out she wasn’t dreaming.

After a while, she found Jude and Francheska who Jude loves calling Franny outside barbecuing some pork and fish.

"Have you seen him?" Ava asked.

"No. I thought he stayed with you?" Jude answered. The smell of the fish made Ava’s stomach grumble. She immediately realized that it was already eight in the evening. It wasn’t dark yet but she had been sleeping for hours!

"Do you want some?" Francheska was smiling at her. "Jude and I had some fun fishing earlier. The fish wasn’t big but it was my first time and it was so much fun. You should come with us next time."

"Was it?" she recalled fishing with Matthew and the things that happened afterward and couldn’t stop herself from blushing.

She bit her lower lip, her eyes were on the horizon. Her body hurt— that was a reminder of what happened just hours ago. Luckily, she wasn’t drained like last time and the bruises weren’t there but she still feel a little spent.

Again, the feeling that someone or something had sucked her magick was there.

But it wasn’t like the first time.

She looked at her ring and thought this was the reason why—

"Did he propose?" Francheska asked, her voice full of surprise. Her eyes were wide towards Ava’s ring. She must have noticed Ava looking at it earlier.

"What?"

"That ring... I noticed that before and I always wonder if he proposed."

"In fact, he did." Ava nodded.

"You said yes," Francheska stated. "I thought engagements are celebrated? Isn’t that the same in the outside world? Why aren’t we celebrating your engagement?" Francheska looked at Jude then she stopped talking.

"Sorry," she quickly apologized. "I didn’t— "

"It’s alright," Ava said.

"Are you sure about this?" Of course, Jude immediately asked. "I mean, a Lycan and a witch. A supernatural and a witch. That is just— "

Ava recalled how Jude showed some signs of liking his witch secretary but didn’t dare to pursue his feelings because she was a witch.

"A relationship like that is frowned upon," Jude said.

"You and your traditional views," Francheska rolled her eyes. "If they like each other, why would they listen to other people’s opinions?"

Francheska added, "And this is coming from someone who grew up inside another plane."

If one would think about it, Francheska should have the same views as Jude, or maybe even worse as she grew up in a close environment and has only seen witches that were treated as slaves.

And this really surprised Ava.

"I am not judging them. I am just asking her if she knew about the possible consequences. Even if she doesn’t care about other supernatural’s opinion, it would still affect her and maybe her children in the long run."

"A witch and a Lycan cannot have children." Francheska glanced at Ava. Seeing that Ava wasn’t reacting, she continued. "But I agree. It would eventually have some consequences."

Meaning, Ava and Matthew might suffer some possible discrimination and maybe even be ostracized in the supernatural world.

The question that Jude wanted to ask was simple.

Is she willing to take the risk?

Is she willing to stand next to Matthew and face all the criticisms?

Ava looked at the two as she smiled inwardly.

The thing is... she actually declined Matthew’s proposal but for some weird reason, she didn’t want to let them know that.

"You don’t have to answer that..." Francheska said. "I have seen what my brother did when he saw you. I know he is very capable of defending you. And I don’t care if you are a witch and he is a Lycan.’" Francheska smiled. "Should I start calling you sister now?"

Ava was speechless.

"You should ask your brother’s permission before calling her anything," Jude said. "That man can be... very weird."

"You always say something like that. He is my brother. Of course, his wife is going to become my sister."

"Does he even sees you as his sister?"

"You— "

Seeing their closeness, Ava couldn’t help but wonder about the status of their relationship. But again, she didn’t want to meddle. She was curious but she would wait for Francheska or Jude to tell her something.

She looked at the horizon again.

Where could he be?

She was sure that Matthew told her he is going to see her soon before her consciousness left her. What does that mean? Was he going away?

No. That’s impossible.

"Hmm?" Ava looked towards the east and her face turned dark. The mark on her skin throbbed as if it was being pricked by hundreds of needles. Just as she wanted to check it out, her heart started racing.

No.

Something is wrong.

Again, her eyes settled on the East then she cursed.

Matthew is in danger!
