Another explosion followed. This time, the chanting stopped.
Then there was screaming.
When the darkness that surrounded Matthew disappeared, the witches were already on the floor, the house was no longer there as well as the large titan that the Priestess summoned.
"Ava?" Matthew called out when she notice her standing not far away from him. He rushed to her side only to realize that she was staring into the Priestess’s lifeless body, a twisted smile on her face. Blood had started to pool around Priestess Anna’s corpse along with the blood from the other witches.
And Ava... was just standing there smiling as the smell of blood filled the air. An ominous feeling wrapped around Matthew’s heart.
"Ava?" Matthew held her shoulder. This time, Ava responded. She flinched and looked at him.
"Are you alright?" she hugged Matthew. She had thought something terrible would happen and she was right. Those witches are using dark magick to curse him. They used a weird box with a pearl that emit a bright light. Luckily, she arrived and took the box away from the Priestess’s hands.
Relief flashed in Ava’s eyes as she smiled.
The thought of him being in danger almost made her heart burst, her adrenaline spiked and she wasn’t able to stop herself from killing the people who wanted to hurt Matthew.
On the outside, everything happened really quick. It only took her seconds to kill them. But inside Ava’s brain, everything was so vivid, so slow. It was as if the world around her was in slow motion as she used a knife to slit their throats as they chanted.
Completely defenseless, all of the women died at her hands.
Did she regret it?
No.
Not ever.
"Yes," Matthew said as Ava pulled away. "How come you are here?" he said.
"I felt it. The mark on my back was burning." Ava looked at the carnage in front of her. Luckily, the Priestess set up a very strong barrier— something that she had never seen before. Without the barrier, the village— no— not just the village but probably the whole town would be destroyed by the gigantic creature that disappeared the moment the Priestess died.
"You felt it?"
"Yes." Ava lifted her gaze and stared at him. "Is there something wrong?" What’s with that question?
"No. Nothing is wrong. We should get out of here..." Matthew said.
"This is just a big illusion. On the outside world, the house was still fine."
"And the witches?" he asked.
Ava looked around. No. These women are not a part of the illusion. They were real. She approached one of them and immediately notice that all of them looked like they were teenagers.
"They wanted to hurt you."
"They couldn’t hurt me," Matthew said. "So they wanted to trap me."
"Why didn’t you tell me?" she asked. Now she understood the reason why Matthew wanted her to leave and not listen to anything that Priestess Anna said. "You could have told me everything."
"She’s from the Nightmare realm. Someone who had worshiped the gods... that was commonly known as the greek gods and goddesses..." Matthew stood next to her.
"Greek Gods," Ava looked around and then focused on Matthew. He was holding her hand. "They exist?"
"If angels and demons exist... what made you think that gods don’t?" he asked.
She couldn’t answer that question.
"Let’s leave this place. We have a lot of things to talk about." Matthew said.
Ava nodded then she teleported out of space.
The two of them arrived near the cliff that Matthew showed her earlier.
"You could have told me she was an enemy."
"And put you in danger?" Matthew said.
"You really should stop thinking about that."
"Not possible."
She pursed her lips and used her magick to create a small mat made of dead grass. She sat on the grass and stared at the dark skies. The stars sparkled just as the sound of waves and the coldness of the night made its presence.
"What are they?" she asked.
"I did something a long time ago... something that hurt someone that I loved."
Ava frowned. Someone that he loved? Why does that word seem to hurt her?
"Because of what I did, the one that I love left. And we were punished." Matthew said.
"So they wanted to kill you..."
Matthew shook his head. "Beings like me... aren’t supposed to come into this realm. We have restrictions and one of them is altering the fate of someone."
Another cold gust of wind swept through them, her hair which already looked like a mess because of what she did earlier, moved.
Before she could do anything about it, Matthew quickly use both of his hands to move her hair out of her face and tuck it behind her ears.
She blinked.
"Are you altering someone’s fate?" Ava asked.
To her surprise, Matthew smirked. "It was... a fun thing to do."
"You sound like the villain."
"I am the villain."
Ava said nothing. His words somehow resonated with what he said.
He was the villain.
And so was she.
She thought they were actually perfect for each other.
"So your enemies will try to kill you from now on?"
"No," Matthew said. "I am not altering anyone’s fate."
"Not even mine?"
He used his thumb and pointer to hold her chin, lifting it up. Then he leaned closer. "You are fated to be mine. Not even the cosmos can change that."
Now that was enough to shut her up. She swallowed as she stared into his scarlet eyes.
"You sound like a real villain," she said. "A scary one."
He chuckled at that. "Then will you be my villainess?"
"Are you proposing right now?" she asked.
"And if I say yes?"
Ava snorted. "Then I guess I would have to say yes. Too. It would be embarrassing to decline twice... right?"
He chuckled until he started laughing with glee. However, this only irritated Ava.
"What are you doing?" she asked.
"Nothing."
"Are you laughing at me?"
"No. I was laughing at myself."
"Why?"
"I thought you would once again decline my generous offer."
Ava frowned then she waved her hand. And...
