"We should rest here..." Riane said when they found a clearing. Surrounded by a foot thick white snow, the clearing was in the middle of old spruce trees. The sound of their voices and footsteps filled the area. Which was the exact opposite of what Riane said during breakfast.
She said something about experts and safety. But if they really wanted to hide their presence and not attract the attention of their enemies then they would have done something about the footsteps of their voices. Moreover, Ava could clearly see that some of the werewolves accompanying them were inexperienced and pretty young.
Of course, she also saw a few experienced ones.
"Mr. Graydon... what do you think of this place?" Riane asked.
"It’s fine." Matthew looked at Ava and she smiled in response.
"Alright. We are going to stay here for the night. Set up the tents. Make sure we’re all comfortable." Riane said, smiling at her people. "I am going to make some delicious soup for the night. Please gather some firewood."
Ava found herself standing next to Matthew and Francheska.
She used her magick to isolate the space around them as she started speaking.
"What is wrong with you?" she asked. "Are you worried about him?"
"Can you blame me?" Francheska said. "We just left him alone..."
"He isn’t alone though."
"How long are you able to control that puppet? Are you sure your plan is going to work?"
"Yes," Ava said. She is using the same technique when Ulva tried to control her. However, this time, she is going to leave the puppet here as she moved toward Jude. Right now, she made her puppet invisible and it had been following Jude. Meaning, she could see everything that Jude was doing.
But this has been a very draining process as Ava and the rest are walking farther and farther away from the puppet. Distance is a big hindrance to puppet control. She immediately thought of delving more into puppetry as she had now realized its usefulness.
Sadly, the information that the Shaman gave her was pretty lacking as puppetry isn’t something that should have existed in this world. The Shaman only got it during one of his travels in another realm.
Ava looked at Riane who was approaching them. The woman always had a smile on her face. It was the exact opposite of the woman who was throwing a tantrum at her uncle’s office. The woman who was planning to harm them. Ava narrowed her eyes.
As always, Riane didn’t spare her and Francheska any glance and just immediately talked to Matthew.
"That tent would be yours... it is just right next to mind. Your witch can stay— "
"In my tent."
"I would like to stay in his tent too." Francheska chimed in surprising everyone. She beamed at Riane. "Mr. Caro asked me to make sure that Mr. Graydon is safe."
"Is that so?" Riane smiled. "Well... I can assure you that my people will be watching this tent and— "
"No need. I am going to stay outside of his tent." Francheska said. "It is my responsibility. I hope you understand."
"Fine. You can stay." Riane said. "I have to take care of the food. Please wait for a few more minutes."
After she left, Ava immediately put the shield back on. Then she looked at Matthew.
All of them were practically wearing white suits that would camouflage with the snow. But for some weird reason, Matthew looked better than all of them. Does that even make sense?
He was tall with broad shoulders and beautiful biceps. He was practically a walking sin. She narrowed her eyes. Thinking about him isn’t good for her... body. So, she turned her head away. Unbeknownst to her, Matthew spotted the blush on her ear. He smirked in response and moved a little closer.
"I think this place is perfect for an ambush..."Francheska said. "I can sense a few ... lingering presence not far away from here but it wasn’t clear. I am certain that normal werewolves won’t be able to sense them."
"You are surprisingly sharp," Matthew said.
In response, Francheska rolled her eyes. "I may not be as strong as you but I am a Lycan too." A Lycan that is currently using a special relic to mask her scent. Right now, Francheska smelled like a normal werewolf.
"About a dozen people are watching us," Matthew ignored his younger sister’s words.
"They must be waiting for the signal..." Ava said. She had seen the Alpha give it to Riane. "They are going to do it after dinner. Remember to take it before dinner." Ava said. The it that she was talking about was the antidote that she borrowed from Riane’s stash. Three tablets for the three of them.
"What about Jude?" Francheska asked.
"What about him?"
"Once the explosion happens..."
"I will be there. Don’t worry about it." Ava assured her. "And they won’t notice a single thing." Not even the magick that she is going to use to destroy that place.
Actually, Ava could use the magick even if she was far away from the pack house.
However, she needed to do something else.
Something that would involve going to the Alpha’s office.
And she has to do it alone.
After a while, the three of them were taken to a tent that would be enough for four people. It was the standard cold-weather family tent that is double isolated with an outer fly that creates a vestibule.
For camping in the winter, a tent vestibule is actually useful as it is a covered dry space for you to put your extra gear before you even step foot inside your tent. It is a good space for the camper to keep their boots and other tools that they don’t want to put next to them while sleeping.
And it was the perfect spot for Francheska.
Of course, Ava told Francheska to stay inside the tent. After all, it was large enough for the four of them. But the latter refused and said that she is going to guard the tent tonight.
In the end, Ava could only sigh and used her magick to quickly make a fire. Then she made herself comfortable inside the tent.
"Why are you smiling like that?" Ava frowned when she noticed Matthew’s sly smile. They just put away their boots so they could walk after a few hours of walking in the cold and in the snow. Their large white coats were outside with Francheska. freeweɓnovel-cøm
"Nothing..." Matthew pulled her and positioned her on top of him. He was comfortably lying down on the tent without even using a sleeping bag. But then again, he is a Lycan. His body was naturally hotter than theirs.
And she meant literally.
"Aren’t you cold?" he asked, lifting his sexy eyebrow.
"I think this is not the time to ask about that." They are currently in the middle of a ’special mission’ and his sister is literally outside. She could hear them with her Lycan senses!
Ava immediately put a shield that would isolate the space inside their tent.
"It is an innocent question," he reasoned, amusement apparent in his silver-gray eyes. "What were you thinking?" he asked.
