The wind blew past Ava’s hair.
She shivered and stared at the pack house. A part of her knew that she needed to hurry. She had no more time. But the other part refused to cooperate. It was the side of her that refused to know the truth. The side of her that has always been scared to know the real reason why he abandoned her.
Despite this, she was well aware that she needed to do this. This is no longer a want. But something that she needed to have. The fucking truth.
She vanished and teleported inside the Alpha’s office. She already knew that there was no one inside so she quickly examined the bookshelf. It took her a couple of minutes to find the switch. Invisibility is really a convenient thing, she thought inwardly as she gained access to the pathway.
Almost immediately she frowned.
She knew that this is different from where the Alpha took Jude but she didn’t realize it would be this... different. The walls were not altered at all. They were the normal rocks that one would see in the cave. She spotted some sharp rocks and some blunt ones. The pathway was dark and cold. There were no cameras or any signs of electricity.
With the absence of any heating system, she was almost certain that whoever is inside would suffer.
She continued walking until she arrived in front of another door. Iron and bronze, she thought. Whoever is inside must be a witch— like her father. She frowned. She didn’t even know if the man inside was indeed her father. Moreover, she wasn’t even sure if he was indeed a witch. How comical, she thought.
She had a lot of issues growing up that started when her father died. And now, she discovered that he might be alive.
She steadied herself and touched the door. She extended her senses and the first thing that she saw was the green eyes that looked as if it was staring down at her. She flinched and let go of the door. Her instinct told her that she needed to run.
Perhaps, it wasn’t his father?
Maybe it was a beast?
Doubt flooded her head as she swallowed her nonexistent saliva. Then they pushed the fear out of her head and touched the door again.
This time, she controlled her magick and used it to open the door.
**CLICK**
She heard a click and she let go of the door.
It was already unlocked. But for some reason, she couldn’t actually open it. A lump in her throat suddenly appeared. She bit her lower lip.
So what if it’s not her father? So what if it was?
Honestly, Ava didn’t have a plan whatsoever. Matthew scolded her for her lack of planning and she was well aware that this was wrong. Coming in here without any plan was like walking into a death trap. She was too reliant on her abilities.
But the thing is, she found it hard to explain to him that even if she wanted to plan, she couldn’t.
She had been asking herself two questions since she saw the relic that her father left.
What would she do if it wasn’t her father? And what would she do if it was?
Until now, she couldn’t really answer that question.
"So? Are you really going to barge in there without a plan?" Matthew asked over and over and over. In the end, he gave up and told her to call out his name if she was in any kind of trouble. Of course, she gladly accepted this.
Slowly, she used her magick to open the door, revealing a circular room with iron and bronze. Surprisingly, there was a bulb inside. Sadly, it wasn’t as bright and was more like decoration instead. The sound of some water droplets echoed inside the room.
Ava held her breath.
After scanning the room, her eyes finally landed on the man sitting on the floor. His head was lowered, his body thin.
"Didn’t I tell you to run?" a hoarse voice echoed inside. Ava said nothing as she used her magick to create light. She didn’t walk inside the room but chose to stand at the door. Almost immediately, she spotted the chains that tied up the man against the wall. She didn’t have to touch it to know it was made of pure iron and bronze.
Ava frowned.
"Why did you have to come?" the man asked as he slowly lifted his head. His green eyes which were too similar to Ava’s landed on her. Ava blinked. Then she blinked again.
"F— father?" her voice trembled.
"Don’t call me that," the man said. "I am not your father."
Ava clenched her jaw, she didn’t even notice that she had already closed her hands into a fist until she felt her nails scraping against her palm. The man before her was her father. Despite his skinny feature, long matted hair, and bruised and pale appearance, she knew this man was the man that haunted her dreams since she saw him being devoured by shifters.
It was her father.
She bit her lower lip to stop it from trembling. She had so many questions, so many things that she wanted to ask him. But the anger in his eyes hindered her from speaking. There was just something about those eyes that told her this isn’t the time to ask more questions.
"We should get out of here..." she said as she avoided his gaze. "We should get you treated and— "
"Leave..."
"What?" Ava snapped her eyes back to him.
"You heard me. I want you to leave this place. Forget that you ever saw me. Forget that you know me. Leave this place at once!"
Ava thought she was hallucinating the first time she heard him tell her to leave. But this time, she was certain, it wasn’t just a hallucination. This was real. He just asked her to leave and to forget him.
Her father just asked her to leave!
