Chapter 410: Killing a God 2

"The simple answer is no. At least, I haven’t heard of a way to do so," the Shaman answered. "Gods are omnipotent. They cannot be killed."

"So... " why is Matthew here? If he is a god, who trapped him inside the pits? And why did he say that his relics were all over the place?

Ava swallowed her nonexistent saliva.

"The prophesy..." Baba uttered. Almost immediately, the Shaman and Ava looked at her.

"What Prophesy?" Ava asked.

"I have always thought that the darkness, the child of malice was you. I am wrong."

"Child of malice?" Ava lifted an eyebrow... She recalled Baba’s weird questions about her past. Was that because of this prophecy?

"But that is no longer important, right now you have to go to that plane and save Matthew," Baba said.

"You really wanted her to go and save someone capable of destroying this world? Matthew is not helpless! Let him save himself! Why would Ava sacrifice herself without a plan? Without even knowing who her enemy was? That is absurd!"

"But Matthew is in danger!" Baba glared at the Shaman. "We need to— "

"You are always the same Babaylan. Always so emotional. If you want to go then you can go. Why drag my apprentice with you?"

"You— "

"First, we need to know what happened and we cannot do that if just argue here. Instead of insisting that we immediately go. Think about the reason why the connection vanished. What would make a connection vanish? If someone more powerful than Matthew made it happen then what made you think that we, mortals could save him?"

"I— "

The Shaman looked at Ava.

"He is not alone in our realm. There are others like him. Visitors from another realm and even gods who wanted to walk among humans. There is a possibility that they were the ones responsible for it. There is also another possibility."

"And what is that?"

"Matthew just left."

"What?" Ava snorted. "That’s impossible."

"Why would it be impossible? He is capable of cutting off his connection and leaving this realm."

Ava said nothing. Right, Matthew is capable of doing that. But he had no reason to leave this realm.

As if sensing her thoughts, the Shaman added. "Before you say that he isn’t capable of leaving you must know that someone trapped him in another dimension. Meaning, he had enemies. And those enemies could come after him anytime. But the reason why I concluded that it was only Matthew who chose to leave the plane of his own volition was that... his enemies didn’t come after you."

"Me?"

"Yes. Beings like him must have some abilities to sense your bond. You are mates, connected to each other. And once they sense that, they could easily use you against him. In fact, it is logical to use you against Matthew as you aren’t that strong."

"And since no one attacked me then... they haven’t sensed me yet," Ava concluded.

"Yes. So..." the Shaman looked at Baba. "Before jumping to conclusions, you better analyzed the situation properly and not let your emotions rule your head. I suggest you astral project inside that plane and check out what has been happening. Try to sense him. If you can."

"I can do that?"

"You did it in the past. There is no reason for you not to do it now."

Ava nodded.

Yes. Astral projection.

She could do it!

...................

This place has fallen. Or at least that was what the ruins suggested to him. A house used to stand in there but something must have swallowed it or destroyed the underground facility sitting under it as it has not been reduced to this state.

He looked around and sighed.

Then he vanished.

The next time he appeared he was already inside one of the tunnels under the destroyed facility. He flicked his hand a ball of fire floated next to him. The ball moved in front of him, giving him a view of what looked like a cave.

It was dark and moist and all he could hear was the sound of water running nearby.

He frowned.

He never thought that the one he was looking for would stay in a place like this. He started walking, traversing around the narrow pathway that had been affected by the thing that destroyed the place in the first place.

Then she stopped.

He glanced at the large door made of iron and bronze.

He narrowed at it.

This is it.

He snapped his fingers and the door opened. Then he examined the now empty place.

It was small and circular and dark. With the absence of a bed or anything that can be used for sleeping, the place must have felt like hell during winter.

He glanced at the now broken chains. He doesn’t need to touch it to know that the person he was looking for had been in those chains just a few days ago. And to get away from this place, that person used his abilities.

Wrong move, he thought.

Using his abilities means that people like him would be able to detect his location.

"So, he had been here."

He looked back at another man who stood not that far away from him.

"You are late," he said.

"I am right on time." The man was wearing a purple suit, his fist was in his pockets as he gave him a lazy smile. "We found him."

"No. We didn’t."

"He had been missing for more than ten years. This is the first sign that we had of him."

"But we didn’t find him."

The man shrugged in response. He walked towards him.

"Your father is a tough man to find."

"He is not my father!"

The man rolled his eyes.

"The fact that he was a traitor doesn’t change anything. He is your father."

The man clenched his jaw. "That traitor is not my father."

"And here, you are. Acting as stubborn as your father."

"I am leaving."

"I thought we are going to trace his energy? We would be able to find him if— "

"Don’t you sense it?"

"What?"

"Someone else was here."

The man lifted an eyebrow. Then he looked around.

"A woman?" he muttered. "Halfling?"

The man shrugged in response. "Not a halfling. Close. But not too close. I couldn’t sense her energy. Probably just a powerful witch who received the essence of someone powerful. A demon or a daemon."

"Really?" the man in the purple suit smirked. "I have never felt someone like this... I could feel the energy of a celestial and something else."

"A demon’s energy."

"Do you think she saved him?" the man in purple asked.

"No. She must have tried to ask him about that thing. And failed."

"There were no signs of fighting."

"But he used his abilities. Perhaps she’s not as powerful as him."

The man in purple shrugged. "We need to find her."

"Why would we?"

"What if he told her the location of that thing?"

"Impossible."

"Is there really anything impossible when it comes to your father?"

The man clenched his jaw. His forest-green eyes glinted with anger. He was right. There is nothing impossible when it comes to his father.

"We shall find that woman," he said after a few seconds of silence.

"You really are entertaining..." the man wearing purple chuckled. Then the two of them vanished.

...................

Drigo was pacing inside the room, his hand rubbing his chin.

Until now, he couldn’t understand why Matthew would just leave like that. He just vanished without saying a word. Did something happen? No, he should be thinking about Matthew’s abilities to teleport or vanish!

How the hell did he manage to get those... abilities?

"Your majesty... the council is ready for you."

"Alright. Let’s start." He walked out of his study and walked towards the meeting hall where the council was waiting for him with his mother.

"I thought you ran away," his mother’s voice reached his ears the moment he walked inside.

"Why would I run away? I don’t remember doing something that needed me to run and hide mother."

"You refused to make a decision about Ulva. I believe it is time for the council to intervene. After all, she killed the previous king."

Drigo clenched his jaw. He sat on his throne and looked at his first wife, who had taken his mother’s side. Actually, he already knew what this was about.

His mother wanted to pressure him to withdraw the latest laws that he passed about the witches and the Lycans. The law states that witches can now live on this plane without swearing loyalty to a Lycan. This has created a massive refusal and anger from the noble families.

These people didn’t want to interact with witches who hadn’t sworn loyalty to any of them. To them, a lone witch cannot live in this place.

To make sure that they succeed, they actually framed Ulva, the current King’s greatest supporter. All of them agreed to frame Ulva for the previous king’s death.

And now, they wanted to make some exchange.

They wanted him to remove the law and they let Ulva go.

It was blackmail. However, Matthew assured him that backing down isn’t the answer. He should not relent.

After all, he was the King.

He got the position, not because of the nobles, but because Matthew gave it to him. So why would he listen to them? Sadly, before Matthew could tell him his plan, he vanished into thin air.

"No," Drigo said. "You cannot execute a witch without proof and if you think you can use this for me to change my decision, then you would be disappointed."

"But your majesty..." his mother smiled at him as if he was a small child. "Can’t you see? You are alone. How could you not listen to the voice of your people?"
