" A witch!? How could you make a witch your Queen!?"
"This is absurd!"
"Your Majesty! We cannot let you marry a witch!"
"Your Majesty! How could you— "
"A witch!"
"How could we treat a witch as our Queen!?"
"Was this a joke?"
"Perhaps, his majesty just wanted to— "
"I knew he would do something crazy."
Matthew watched with a bemused smile. He was resting his chin on the back of his palm as he listened to everyone’s words.
"Your majesty you must not make her your Queen!"
"Your Majesty, how could you do something like this?"
"Your majesty—"
Matthew didn’t answer. So, they continued asking.
"Your majesty, we are begging you to change your mind!" freeweɓnovel-cøm
"Your majesty— "
"Your majesty, you can have all the woman that you want. Why would you do something so— "
"Your majesty— "
After a few minutes, quiet replaced the chaos. Everyone looked at the smiling King who seemed so happy as he listened to their complaints while ignoring their questions. How could someone be that happy!?
If Matthew wanted Ava to be his Queen then... the questions should have made him angry, no?
"My declaration is irrevocable and final," Matthew said.
And again, chaos has started. The noise drown the place as everyone shouted, their voices filling the large hall. Obviously, Matthew didn’t even waste his voice talking to them or answering their questions.
It just didn’t make any sense. It’s not like it would change his decision. This matter has been decided even before he became King.
"Now.... Shall we get to the juicier part!?" Matthew said. Obviously, he was far from being done. No. Oh, no. He was very far from being done.
"What?"
"I know my predecessor had already raised the issue. And I would like to tell everyone that the witches will now be given the option to leave this plane or serve someone. They would be given equal rights and shall be treated as a citizen of this plane. And anyone who opposes the arrangement can go fuck themselves and leave the kingdom." Matthew was beaming at everyone as if he was expecting them to shout with joy at his announcement.
"What!?"
"What did he say!?"
"Equal rights!?"
"They can leave!?"
"That is madness!"
"How could someone just— "
"Your majesty!"" it was the patriarch of the de Cene Family. He made his voice loud enough for everyone to hear. This caused a lot of people to quieten down. Many of the people who oppose all the things that Matthew said gave the patriarch an expectant look, hoping that he would represent everyone and tell Matthew his thoughts.
"Old Patriarch," Matthew nodded in acknowledgment. "Do you have any concerns?" Matthew asked.
"Concern!?" the old Patriarch walked out of the crowd. "No your majesty, I don’t have any concern. What I have is something called a problem."
"A problem!?" Matthew looked surprised. "Let me apologize old Patriarch but I don’t see myself as someone who can help someone recover their psych. Your problem is definitely not mine. Please feel free to get out of the plane and take your problem with you."
"Your Majesty, please listen to yourself. This isn’t the word of a proper King." The old Patriarch took another step forward. "A proper King would protect his people. A proper King would always do something for the betterment of the Kingdom. A proper King would choose to sacrifice his wants for his Kingdom."
"But then again, I am not a proper King," Matthew said. Rendering the old man speechless. "So yes, what were you trying to say, Patriarch?"
"I— " What else could he say? Matthew already said that he isn’t a proper King. He gritted his teeth as he made a mental note. This isn’t the right time to back away. This is the time to show everyone that the de Cene family has the ability to stand up against the current King.
"Yes?"
"Your majesty, how could you marry a witch and even declare her as your Queen? Witches have always been treated as someone lower than us. We have treated them as second to our race. And they have been serving us for centuries. You cannot just do something like this simply because you want to!"
"That is right," Matthew said. "Witches had been treated like that for centuries and I am changing that now.
"That— You can’t just do what you want. Now that you are King— "
"Who said so?" Matthew lifted an eyebrow. He looked at the other nobles. "I am asking you... patriarch. Who said that I cannot do whatever I want?"
"Me!" Someone from the back raised her hand. "Our families have given your our daughters. We have asked you over and over again to stick to tradition. How could you— "
"Then I am giving you the chance to leave the alliance that the Lycans started thousands of years ago," Matthew said.
"What?"
"You heard me right. If you have a problem just like Mr. De Cene then you may leave. I am not going to stop you. Instead, I would encourage you to leave. Do you think I would like to deal with you as much as you do me?"
"What is he saying!?"
"You see," Matthew said while smiling. "You seemed to have misunderstood something." He then got up from his black throne and walked down the stairs. "I only have three options for everyone. You can stay and acknowledge me as your King under an oath made by the Shaman. Second is to leave and third... is to die."
"What?
"Oh, yes." Matthew showed everyone his hands and how his nails started to grow longer, his hand morphing into that of a Lycans. Then his eyes turned golden yellow.
"He— He is turning into a Lycan!"
"How could it be!?"
All Lycans had been cursed! How could he—
"Mate!" someone from the back shouted. "He found his mate!"
"Impossible!"
"I can’t believe it! Even the previous King never showed us that kind of transformation!"
Matthew marveled at their reaction. Then he added. "It’s either you obey me, you leave or you die. And I am giving you thirty seconds to choose."
