The lake in front of her looked shallow, yet strangely enough, she couldn’t help but fear it. Ava frowned. There was an unexplained emotion inside her as she looked at the clear water not far away from where she was standing.
For some reason, she felt like she had forgotten something— it felt like she had forgotten a very important part of her. What could it be? She wondered.
She looked around and realized that she was alone, she had been alone for as long as she could remember. Yet there was a part of her that felt like she had company just earlier. She chuckled at that thought.
Was her mind playing games on her?
"Hey— "
Ava turned and look at the child.
"Are you calling me?" she asked.
"Do you see anyone else here?"
"Well— " Ava was speechless. She looked around. "No."
"Then I am calling you. Should I just call myself hey?"
This child. Ava frowned. The boy looked like he was about seven or eight. Yet, his fierce golden eyes were enough to intimidate anyone.
"What do you want?" she asked.
"Aren’t you lonely?"
"No?" Ava said.
"I came to talk."
"Talk?" she scoffed. "Where are your parents?"
The child gave her a strange look.
"Why are you asking?"
Ava turned towards the lake.
"You should go home," she said. "It’s not good to talk to strangers."
She felt the child approach her.
"Aren’t you lonely?"
The child asked again.
"I’m not."
"Why?"
"What do you mean why?"
"You are alone."
"And?"
"People who are alone are always lonely."
Ava didn’t answer that. She was alone but for some reason, she didn’t feel alone. She wasn’t lonely. It was as if she always had someone with her. But was it really possible to forget someone just like that?
"I’m not one of them," she answered, her gaze now back to the child. He looked familiar but she couldn’t recall where she saw him. "Have we met before?"
"No," the boy shook his head. "Not yet."
"Hm? What’s that mean?"
"You haven’t met me yet."
"Am I not meeting you now?"
In response, the boy gave her a meaningful look.
"Aren’t you lonely?" he asked.
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because— " she had someone. The thought made her pause. She had someone? Who? "Just because."
"That’s not an answer."
She shrugged. She didn’t want to answer that question.
"I can give you what you want," the boy suddenly said.
"You don’t know what I want." She doesn’t even know what she wanted. She frowned. No. She knew what she wanted. But she couldn’t seem to remember it. Was it even possible to forget about what you wanted? She looked at the child again. "Do you?" she asked.
"I can give you anything that you want."
"Anyway?" she asked.
"Yes. Anything."
"Why?"
The boy only smiled in response.
"Why would you give me something?" she doesn’t even know him. "You should find your parents."
"I don’t have one."
"Well, you can’t stay here. We don’t know each other."
"But I am going to give you what you want."
Ava snorted at that. Then she shook her head. "I am leaving."
"Where are you going?"
"I— " she met the boy’s golden gaze. Where is she going? She doesn’t know.
No. She should know this. She should know where she is going!
She drew her brows together. "Who are you?" she asked. "What is this place?"
"This is a place to get what you want."
"That’s funny," she said without hiding the sarcasm in her voice.
"What is it that you want?"
Again, the question made her speechless. What is that she wants?
"I can give you anything."
Ava snorted. She turned her head towards the lake. For a few seconds, she stared at the calm lake then she closed her eyes. Something is wrong. She knew she had forgotten something important and no matter how much she tried to recall it, she couldn’t. Was she in... a dream?
She heard a loud crack.
"What are you doing?" the boy asked.
This time Ava didn’t answer him. She was in a dream, she thought.
Another crack echoed.
"Stop that!" the boy said. "Whatever it is that you are doing, stop it!"
However, Ava didn’t listen.
"Don’t you want to be with me?" the boy asked. "Hey! Stop it! Tell me what you want and I- "the boy’s voice suddenly turned deeper. "I will give you everything that you want."
"Hey! Stop it! I said!"
Ava ignored the voice of the man. She was in a dream! She had forgotten everything because she was in a dream!
"Hey... I am begging you. Stop it. Please?" this time, the voice became that of a small boy once again. "Why aren’t you listening to me? Don’t you like me?"
Ava continued ignoring the boy. Another crack echoed. This time, she felt her body fall, she braced herself for the sudden stop.
**THUD**
"Ugh!" Ava felt her body hit something hard. Pain erupted on her left shoulder. She immediately opened her eyes and realized that she was inside a cave.
Alone.
"What the— " she looked around. The cave wasn’t completely dark as there were candles on the rocky walls. She shivered. For some reason, she felt like she just walk inside a horror movie!
She let out a gasp when she heard footsteps. frёeωebɳovel.com
"I have been waiting for you." It was the voice of an old woman. She turned around and almost peed on her pants when she realized that a wizened woman’s face was just a few inches away from hers.
"What took you so long?" the woman narrowed.
"What?"
"Go on... change your clothes. We are about to create the greatest plane ... together."
"I— "
"What are you waiting for? The blood moon is coming!"
Ava looked around and realized that there was some sort of clothing near her feet. Without saying another word, she picked it up. It was a tunic made of some animal skin.
Now that she thought about it, the woman’s clothes were made of animal skin too.
Where is she?
What is happening?
Was this part of the trial?
