Chapter 475: Erebus and Nyx 1

"That’s absurd," Ava said.

"I have heard the news," her father suddenly barge in.

"That was quick," Drigo chimed in. Not everyone in this room liked Ava’s father and Drigo wasn’t really that shy in showing his dislike.

"She wanted you," Ava’s father ignored Drigo. He stared at Ava, his eyes unblinking. "Your body."

"Does she really have this— the ability to destroy a world?" Jude asked.

"Yes, she does. Whoever is inside her has the capability to do that." Ava’s father answered with confidence. "You are powerless if you fought against her outside of this plane," he continued. "As a plane owner, your capabilities are limited once you enter another realm. That is the law of nature."

Ava pursed her lips. She didn’t expect the woman to act this fast. What could have pushed her to do this?

"Do you think Ava has a chance of winning?" Jude asked.

"No. She might if she fought against her inside this plane but that would destroy this plane and everyone else inside it," her father said.

"That’s absurd," Jude said. "What should we do?"

"Can you tell us about the report?" Ava asked Drigo.

"Well, she showed up in India, killing about a thousand people, then in China," Drigo said. "It looked like she’s targeting the places with the most population."

"This is bad," Francheska said. "We need to at least fight against her."

"We don’t stand a chance," Drigo said. "If Ava didn’t have a chance then— "

"Then are we just going to hide in this plane?"

"Yes," Drigo said without even batting his eyelid. "We the supernaturals don’t owe anything to the humans. What we need to do is stick together and... and survive on our own. We are safe in this place, inviting a disaster just to save the humans doesn’t make sense."

"What about the other supernaturals?"

"It is unfortunate," Drigo said. "But it is the only thing that we can do."

"What about you?" Fracheska said. "Are you going to stay here?" she was looking at Ava.

"I can’t," Ava answered. "I needed to go back to that place and save the Shaman and Samuel." Until now, Samuel is nowhere to be seen. She wasn’t even sure if the man was still alive. She could only hope that he was. She swallowed and started walking towards the window.

"If there is a way to be powerful then..."

"There is a way," her father said.

"What?"

"There is a way to be more powerful."

"And that is?" Ava asked.

"Become one of us."

"What?"

"The relic that you have— "

"I don’t have a relic."

"The one that you absorbed. I presumed... this was an ancient spell that you knew nothing about!? Have you perhaps met someone in another realm?"

Ava pursed her lips. She couldn’t tell him because of her promise. "I cannot tell you that."

"So you did. But you cannot tell me anything because of your oath," her father said. "The one who gave you that relic knew that you have my blood. The guardians can absorb relics because of our special constitution. If you absorb more relics, your body will become stronger and you will become one of us."

"One of the Guardians?" Ava asked.

"Yes."

"And that means?"

"You will have responsibilities and your actions will be limited. You can no longer travel to another realm without being watched. And— "

"And what?"

"And you can only be with another guardian."

Ava frowned.

"Matthew is my mate."

"The bond will disappear if you become one of us. I was— The reason why I became a pariah was that I fell in love with someone who isn’t a guardian. The guardians were made to guard and our blood is special. We— we can only be with someone who is like us. Thus, your mother’s pregnancy surprised me."

"So, to become more powerful, she is going to sacrifice her bond?" Francheska said.

Their words made Ava snort. Sacrificing Matthew for more power? She wanted to laugh. For some reason, she felt like a protagonist of some fantasy movie. To defeat evil, she was given a choice to become more powerful. And that involves sacrificing the person that she loved.

To save the people that she doesn’t even know, she had to sacrifice Matthew.

Why would she?

This script was a bit wrong.

She wasn’t the hero.

She wasn’t the antagonist either.

All she wanted was to live, to survive.

And maybe not choosing to be powerful is a bit stupid. After all, she needed more abilities to be able to guard this plane.

"So... you are not going to do it," her father said.

"No," her answer was quick and crisp. There is no explanation. Just a simple no.

And yes, she knew she was being selfish. But so what? She literally had no reason to sacrifice Matthew just to fight against someone like her own mother. The world can burn for all she cares.

"There might be another way..." her father said.

"And that is?"

"That is knowing the name of the one inside your mother’s body."

"Isn’t that too risky?" Jude said. "That means, she would have to get close to her. If her plan was to own Ava’s body that means, we are going to use Ava as bait. In front of that woman, Ava is powerless. She could kill Ava anytime — "

"Jude is right," Matthew suddenly appeared next to Jude. Everyone gasped when they noticed the change in his appearance.

"You— " Even Ava’s father looked speechless. "What have you done!?"

"What is going on?" Drigo asked.

"You just— "

"That is not the most important thing right now," Matthew said without looking at Ava. He approached Ava’s father. "I can fight against her."

"But you are— How could you descend to a mortal world? That would cause distraction and— devastation! No guardian would allow you to do that!"

"But you will."

"You— "

"You will allow me to do that," Matthew ordered.

"I cannot— I am— "

"I have a way to fix everything," Matthew said. Finally, he looked at Ava. "And I mean... everything."

"While Matthew fought with that woman, you can visit the south pole and retrieve Samuel and the Shaman," Jude said. ’That is a good idea! Matthew just needed to keep the woman occupied long enough for Ava to go out of the realm and come back here."

"That is a good plan," Drigo said.

"I want to know the risk," Ava answered after a few seconds of silence. She could feel something changed inside Matthew through the bond. She could feel his strength, his power. For some reason, it felt like Matthew had become heavier. Does that make sense?

If Ava would concentrate more, she could feel something overwhelming in her chest. As if a large object was suffocating her. She didn’t like this feeling.

"You don’t have to worry, I can defeat her. But I can prolong the fight to avoid devastation." Matthew smiled. "Don’t you trust me?’

Ava’s lips twitched. Something was wrong with Matthew. But she couldn’t pinpoint what exactly was wrong with him. He had become more powerful and something felt like she couldn’t reach him anymore.

"No," Ava said. "You are not going anywhere."

"What?"

"She wanted me, I will be the bait. I am going to learn her name and you will kill her once that happens."

"Ava— "

"This is my fight, Matthew," Ava said. "She is my mother."

"No you don’t understand," Matthew said.

"It is you who refused to understand," Ava answered. "I am not letting you out of there unless you tell me what was wrong with you."

"Nothing is wrong with me."

"I can feel it," Ava said. "You have— " freewēbnoveℓ.com

Suddenly, there was a loud ringing in her ear, she covered her ear on instinct and that was when she noticed that everyone around them stopped moving except Matthew, her, and her father.

"What— " This was something that the man did— the same one that was looking for her father. "What are you doing?"

"He had claimed half of his divinity," Ava’s father uttered.

"What?" Ava frowned in confusion.

"He is a fallen god who chose to travel the cosmos to find you."

Ava looked at Matthew who seemed angry that Ava’s father revealed something personal to her.

"Primordial Deities. Matthew is one of them. The God of Darkness and Shadow and... the husband of Nyx." Seeing her speechless, her father continued. "Erebus and Nyx are born out of chaos. Erebus is the personification of Darkness and Shadow while Nyx is the personification of the night."

"You are not supposed to tell her that."

"What are they going to do to me?" Ava’s father said. "Exile me?" Her father snorted. "I have been exiled for so long... do you think I care?"

"That is the secret of the cosmos Abdiel. You have no business in telling her what she doesn’t understand."

"So, you are just going to pretend that you have not claimed your divinity and that you are not going to leave her once the other Primordial deities got hold of this information?"

"Isn’t it too late to act like a good father?" Matthew snorted.

"Telling her the truth isn’t me being a good father. It is me... wanting her to become one of us." Ava’s father said. "And leave you and the useless deities who had been fighting since time began!"
