"I am going to absorb this..." Ava said. The fact that Lucas gave her this mission must not be a coincidence! That man must have known about her and her parents!
"You cannot do that!" Ava’s father said. "Please.... Just give it to me. I will handle it."
"Ava does not listen to him!" her mother said. "You cannot give him the stone."
"How unlucky..." Ava started absorbing it. Almost immediately, she felt a strange power enter her body. She felt like her world started spinning. She frowned and closed her eyes.
A strange light appeared around Ava’s body.
"Ava, please... you cannot do that!" her mother’s screams echoed inside her head. Yet, she was too occupied to even listen to her words. Her body floated and the tattoo on her back seemed to burn against her skin.
Right then and there, she knew. The stone wasn’t meant to be hers.
A sudden pain started in her head. Then it slowly moved towards her body. She trembled. What is going on? Lucas told her that she would be safe after absorbing a stone. What is going on now?
Ava heard some shouting then there was a loud bang. She immediately wondered if this was her hallucination or if her two lovely parents are once again fighting. Isn’t it useless though?
She knew that they wanted the stone.
For some reason, they cannot touch it or even approach it. And they wanted to use her to get the stone. Instead, she started absorbing it. The magick inside her body started growing. She felt it pulsate inside her chest, moving through the ends of her nerves and on her skin. Then it started throbbing...
Ava couldn’t help but scream...
She heard a crack and she was almost sure it was one of her bones. Another crack echoed. Then her gaze turned dark.
...........
"It was you!" Matthew roared when he appeared a few feet away from Ava’s floating body. His bloodshot eyes found Ava’s father before he realized that Ava was floating not that far away from him. Without saying a word, he sent a bolt of lightning toward Ava’s father. Then he disappeared and reappeared in front of him.
"You wouldn’t kill me," Ava’s father smirked. "You cannot do that."
"Try me," Matthew clutched the neck of Ava’s father. But just as he was about to kill him, a loud crack echoed.
Ava’s mother just sent him a lightning bolt.
Surprised flashed in his eyes as the impact sent him a few steps backward.
Silence filled the room.
"You were working together..." Matthew concluded when Ava’s mother stood next to Ava’s father. "The two of you... wanted her to absorb my fragment."
His gaze had turned darker, his face grimmer. He looked at Ava, his expression morose.
"You can no longer stop it," Ava’s father smiled. "Once she is done... we will use her body as a sacrifice and ascend as gods."
"You will not be able to succeed."
"Who told you that?" Ava’s father smirked. "You are nothing but an embodiment of darkness and shadow. You are nothing but the personification of those two. You will not be able to stop our ascension. Especially not in this place."
"You purposely tried to separate us," Matthew said. "You revealed my divinity to make me stay away from this realm while you manipulate her. Then you played her around like a damn ball!"
"Finally!" Ava’s father smiled at Ava’s mother. "Someone finally understood! I mean... we created the perfect body as a sacrifice but we fail to add a little more brain into her head."
"She was a little dumb, isn’t she?" Ava’s mother snickered.
"Can you blame her?" Adriel, her father said. "She grew up without anyone around her."
Matthew’s lips twitched. As much as he wanted to attack them, she cannot actually do it knowing that the magick reinforcement around the area just...cracked. It’s not strong enough to protect Ava from another fight. He needed to get close to her.
"You cannot save her... you already obtain half of your divinity while she is slowly absorbing the other half of your divinity you— "
Ava’s father stopped talking when he saw Matthew approach Ava as if there was no pressure around her. He seamlessly walked towards Ava and lifted her body.
"What were you saying?" Matthew gave the two a sinister smile. "A personification of a god, you say?" His voice boomed. It seemed to echo around the place yet each echo was louder than the one before it.
Matthew laughed.
"How amusing..." he then narrowed at their surprised faces. "Did you really think I would risk coming here without a plan?" he asked.
"Oh... how foolish... I wouldn’t wonder why the rest of the guardians have abandoned you and wanted to punish you for your foolishness!"
At the mention of the guardians, Adriel’s face changed. He paled as realization hit him.
"The Guardians— "
Slowly bright lights descended around them. A man with green eyes appeared, a playful smile was apparent on his face.
"Hello father," he greeted Adriel. "It’s been about a hundred years. You still looked the same. I presume you were out... enjoying your life?" he glanced at Ava’s mother and snorted.
"You— "
"Adriel of the Guardian family, you need to come with us. You shall be punished for the crimes that you committed!"
"You— I didn’t— He has obtained his divinity!" he pointed at Matthew. "He cannot be here!"
"He has no business in this realm!? Where are the Gods!? Why aren’t they coming here? Matthew obtained half of his divinity! They shouldn’t— " he turned towards Matthew as his eyes widened. "You— how are you able to touch her? You — You are like me! You shouldn’t have the ability to touch her! Especially since you have not obtained your full power! What have you done!?"
Matthew only smirked in response. He gave Ava a longing gaze. Then his eyes landed on her ring, her arsunite.
"Was it because you are her mate?" her father asked.
"Was that it!?"
"You must have done something to her! You— did you know about it since— did you know about my plan?"
"I did not," Matthew answered truthfully. He didn’t have any idea about Adriel’s plan and to be completely honest, he didn’t care about the man who abandoned Ava. He had no business thinking about Adriel.
However, this all changed when Adriel suddenly got involved in his life. After the appearance of Ava’s mother, Adriel started acting strange. It felt like he wanted to sow discord between Matthew and Ava.
So... Matthew let the man think that he succeeded as he made his own plans.
Soon, he realized that something was definitely wrong with Ava’s father when he talked to the man with green eyes. He thought that Ava’s father had been hunted by the Guardian family because he fell in love with a human. However, the man revealed that Ava’s father had been experimenting on occupants from a different realm.
They didn’t know what he wanted or why he was doing this.
When they discovered that he had been experimenting on the occupants, they immediately tried to pull him out of his duties to punish him. However, he ran away.
For years, they had been looking for him but as Guardians, their actions are somewhat limited by the cosmos.
For instance, there are just places that they cannot sense. Like the Mourning Pits or that cave where Adriel had been staying.
It was the law of nature so they couldn’t do anything about it.
"But this isn’t the time to discuss that," Matthew said. "Shouldn’t you worry about yourself now that they are going to take you away?" he asked, sarcasm apparent in his voice. "What about your beloved? They would take her away too... aren’t you— "
"What is he saying?" Ava’s mother said. "Why would they take me away? You said they cannot do that since I am nothing but a mortal!"
"You are certainly not a mortal," Matthew said. "And they are certainly going to take you with them."
"What? What is he talking about?"
However, Ava’s father wasn’t able to answer her question as a green chain suddenly wrapped around his body. He immediately tried to use his magick but quickly realized that it was no longer working.
Seeing this, panic settled inside him. He tried to struggle and asked Ava’s mother to help him. However, Ava’s mother was no longer capable of doing that. Not when the green chains had been wrapped around her body too.
"What are you doing!? I am the great guardian of this realm! You cannot take me away!" he screamed. "You cannot take me away! Hey! What are you doing!?"
Slowly, darkness swallowed his body but this didn’t stop him from screaming. Surprisingly, Ava’s mother didn’t do anything. She just had a look of surprise on her face as the darkness swallowed her.
"We are leaving..." the man whose eyes were too similar to Ava’s said.
"Hmm..." Matthew nodded while staring at Ava.
"She’s going to live," he said.
"I know," Matthew answered.
"This is a part of fate..."
"I know," Again, Matthew nodded then he sighed. "This is going to be a very long night."
