Almeru squinted.
Then he took a step back and snorted at Simon.
"Stupid servant," his sister Aira de Cene hissed. "If she’s not coming out then we’re going in."
Without saying another word, she stepped towards the house. But before she could reach the stairs, she paused. She held a finger forward, as if she was trying to poke something.
"Magick..." her face turning red. "This woman..."
"Aira... " Almeru knew what was coming. He turned towards his people standing close by. "Stop her."
Two men immediately hauled Aira towards her brother.
"Why are you stopping me?" Aira growled. Her fangs were now noticeable, her nails had grown sharper.
"We are not doing this here." Almeru said sternly.
"That woman... used magick on us! On me!"
Almeru’s gaze turned towards the house. Then he took a step back, his footsteps making a crunching sound against the snow.
Then he felt it.
The thick Magick that surrounded the house. It smelled like burned flesh and sulfur. It was ominous and deadly.
"You won’t be able to break through..." Aira wasn’t strong enough to break through the fortified magick walls of the house. Again, he glanced at the house. Just what was this witch thinking?
Almeru’s face turned ugly.
"The house has been fortified with walls of magick..." and something else. Something he couldn’t feel.
"Brother."
Almeru sent his sister a warning glare. Aira hated witches. She hated magick since a witch cursed their mother. And he understood it. However, this witch is Matthew’s.
They could not harm her and risk Matthew’s ire.
"I am Almeru de Cene. I hail from spain. Born in Madrid. I am Matthew’s friend. I have come to see his witch." He announced. Since Simon refused to announce his presence, Almeru decided to do it himself. "I am not here to fight. I came with good intentions. I want to talk."
The house was silent.
But for some reason, Almeru could feel it. Her gaze.
The woman’s eyes.
She was observing them.
This was another reason why he quickly instructed his people to stop his sister.
"This visit is unannounced. But please don’t take offense. Matthew has been busy and I don’t want to disturb him." It was a total lie. But Almeru had always been good at lying. He smiled, his face turning gentle, hoping his reaction would be enough to convince the witch that he was not here to harm her.
Minutes passed.
But the door never opened.
He couldn’t hear anything from inside the house. He knew it was magick.
However, just before he could turn around and go back to his car, the door made a sound.
A woman walked out.
Brown haired and tall.
Just like the images that his people sent.
The woman wrapped a coat around her body, a coffee was in her hand.
"Come in..." she said. "I created a path."
Almeru heard his sister snort behind him.
"A path? You think I can’t..." Aira didn’t finish her words. She clutched her neck. Eyes wide, she opened her mouth. No voice came out.
Panic danced in Aira’s eyes.
" So noisy." Ava Woods responded. "You are in my territory... Lycan. Keep your mouth shut."
Almeru immediately said. "Please forgive my sister’s impudence. She’s young."
"You are twin..." Ava corrected him. "You are in your thirties, no?"
It was as if a large rock was lodged in Almeru’s throat. Witches.
He hated them just like Aira. However, he was logical enough to think. Witches, the ones that are under Lycans control, don’t act like this in front of another Lycan.
And an uncontrolled witch who has sworn her loyalty to a Royal Lycan, is the most dangerous of them all.
"Please forgive me."
"Follow the path... or you die." The woman, Ava Woods said before turning around.
"Hmmmm...." Aira wanted to say something but whatever the witch did was stopping his sister from saying a word. Almeru gave his sister an irritated gaze.
"Behave!" he growled. He told his sister not to come with him but she insisted and he was helpless against her wishes.
As if sensing his anger, Aira closed her mouth. She glared at him, sending daggers his way.
But Almeru was too occupied to think about her right now. He took a step forward.
It was as if the magick that blocked his way parted. A sizzling sound echoed inside his ears. He knew he was the only one who could hear it. He felt Aira and the two Lycan followed him.
However, the pathway suddenly closed after Aira.
Aira gasped, alarm written on her face
"Hmmmmm...."
Almeru signaled her to shut up. So the witch didn’t want their guards inside. That’s fair.
Four Lycans against a witch can be very troublesome.
Three steps in and another pathway parted for them.
Just how many traps did the witch made?
Almeru cursed inwardly.
Another three steps and he could feel the magick bursting around the house.
What the hell?
Finally, they reached the door.
It automatically opened for them. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
He took a step inside. He saw his sister hesitate but she too took a small step inside the house.
The smell of something stirred in his stomach.
Bacon.
And Eggs.
"I’m not going to offer you breakfast," Ava was in the kitchen eating some eggs and bacon. "I don’t want you to think I am trying to poison you... or worse, curse you."
"My lady..."
"Call me by my name." Ava gestured towards the chair on the counter. "Sit wherever you like."
Her casualness felt like an insult to someone like Almeru who grew up being tended by witches.
But this was not the type to be offended. It must be her culture.
Americans can be very rude, he thought.
Not all of course.
But some of them can be very offensive.
He sat opposite Ava and started observing her.
Her eyes were greener than the picture. It reminded him of the forests. Her nose was long and small. It perfectly suited her heart shaped face.
She was... stunning.
Even more beautiful than most Lycans and witches he had seen.
But the indifference in her eyes was irritating him.
"I don’t like you very much," Almeru said.
"Why, thank you very much." Ava’s answer surprised him. If a person said they don’t like you, isn’t it right to ask them why?
But the woman...
She... she was smirking at him before shoving a piece of bacon on her mouth.
How... infuriating!
