"What is it?" Ava said. She was in an extremely good mood after that fiasco with Romeo. "Did you find out anything about— " she stopped talking when she noticed the current atmosphere surrounding Baba and Matthew.
From the thing that Matthew told her, Baba took care of him when he was still a kid. He respects the witch. She frowned. Was it because of her?
"Did something happen?" she asked. Was it another prophecy?
"No. However, I am curious." Baba smiled at her. "What were you doing before we arrived?"
"I was trying to practice..." Ava said. She didn’t hide the fact that she used magick but she wasn’t planning on telling her how she used it. "It was just a simple spell." ƒrēewebnovel.com
"I felt it," Baba had a gentle smile on her face. Despite this, Ava could feel something else. Though, she wasn’t really sure as the woman was currently blocking her attempts to read her emotions.
"Anyway, why did you want to see me?"
"Ah, it was actually nothing important. I wanted to check on you. Matthew said you fought with his people. He was worried."
Ava nodded.
"I feel fine."
"Not exhausted?"
"No."
"Did you use an illusion?"
Ava nodded.
"Only talented witches can perform illusion magick in a real fight," Baba said. "In my younger years, I couldn’t do it. It took me three years of persistence to be able to make one— a simple illusion."
Ava pursed her lips in response. She wondered if Baba was here to tell her that she was a freak. The woman looked curious about her abilities. Matthew told her that Baba would want to test her if she found out about her magick.
"I’ve heard about it. But... I’ve had a couple of run-ins with shifters when I was working with the werewolves and I... I managed to learn how to use the magick to protect myself."
"Ah." Baba nodded. "Indeed, experience is the best teacher."
Ava awkwardly avoided the woman’s gaze. To be honest, Baba looked really intimidating. It wasn’t just because she’s older. There was just something about the woman’s gaze. It felt like she could read her. As if... she could actually see her lies.
"Alright. Since she already answered your questions..." Matthew stroked the back of Ava’s hand. "She should rest now."
Ava blinked.
Then, she blinked again.
Why does it feel like Matthew is hostile to Baba?
"No Matthew, we still have some things to talk about," Baba said. "Shall we go to your office?"
Matthew’s mood changed and for a few seconds, Ava could feel how angry he was. But why? Why was Matthew angry?
"Alright," Matthew said. He then kissed her forehead and promised to come back after he had a proper talk with Baba.
Now alone in the bedroom, Ava sighed.
Then her gaze landed on the bed.

ROMEO MCLARY
The stars sparkled in front of Romeo.
It immediately reminded him of the time when his wife told him to name a random star. Unable to find a good name, Romeo named it ’Starry’.
He recalled how his wife laughed at him for being so smart yet dumb. How could he name a star, starry?
Romeo had scoffed at his wife then.
"When I am gone... " his wife said. "And you see Starry..."
"You are not dying..."
"But I am. We all die. Death is a gift, Romeo. We should accept it with grace."
Romeo said nothing. So, his wife continued.
"When you see Starry, you think of me, alright?"
Romeo clenched his jaw.
"I will always think of you."
"Good, " the woman in his arms laughed. "Because I will be just like the star. I will be there. Watching over you."
Romeo smiled.
"Alright."
"But you won’t actually remember me, right?"
Suddenly the woman in his arms changed her voice.
"Huh?"
"Right? Romeo?"
"You— " Romeo immediately pushed the woman away from him. Was he inside a dream again? No. That’s impossible! He was on his desk reading the Sumerian text. He just had a fresh cup of coffee! How could he fall asleep?
Impossible.
"Right, Romeo?" the woman turned towards him. "You will forget about me and find someone else, right?"
"I— "
He wanted to tell her that it would never happen.
He would never forget her. Not even if he dies.
But the crooked smile of the woman in front of him was enough to tell him that this... wasn’t his wife.
"What are you trying to tell me?" he asked.
"Oh, Romeo.... "
"What? Why can’t you say it? You used to be so good at talking to me!" Romeo couldn’t help the anger bursting from his heart. He knew!
His wife was trying to tell him something.
But she couldn’t say it.
So, she resorted to doing this.
Nightmares.
"What is it?’ he asked. "You can tell me. I am here..."
"No, you’re not, you liar!"
"What?"
"You were with them!"
"Them?"
"The other women!"
"What are you talking about?"
Romeo frowned. He tried to approach his wife and pull her back to him but she suddenly vanished.
"Huh?" He turned and immediately realized that he was now surrounded by fog.
"Romeo... how could you leave me?"
"How could you replace me?"
"Don’t you love me anymore?"
"Romeo... don’t you love me anymore?"
Romeo bit his lower lip so hard he could taste the blood. He needed to wake up. He needed to get out of this place!
When Romeo opened his eyes again, he was still sitting at his desk.
"Huh?" The sun was already shining outside. The documents lay undisturbed in front of him and so was his coffee.
His expression immediately turned ugly. He stared at the large curtains in his room. It was already daytime.
Was he dreaming while sitting on this desk?
What was that about?
Romeo held his head. He didn’t have much sleep. But this wasn’t his concern right now.
He needed to know what his wife was trying to tell him.
So, he entered the secret passage again and immediately went to the secret room at the back to talk to his sleeping wife.
