Chapter 80: The Second Half of the Prophecy

"This side of you... I hate it the most." Baba had a dark look on her face as she sipped her tea. She stared at the man sitting majestically in front of her.

This was the real Matthew.

The man who arrived in her lair with Ava was not the same Matthew who looked at her as if she was below him.

Baba knew Matthew couldn’t control this side of him.

This was because he was born to be the King.

He was born to rule.

Matthew didn’t answer her, instead, he took a sip of his coffee.

"I have been asking to talk to her since that day," Baba added.

"And I have been refusing your request."

"That is not your decision to make."

"She’s my mate. She’s mine. So I can make this decision for her."

"Wolves." Baba rolled her eyes. "I believe she would have a different opinion about this matter." ƒrēewebnovel.com

"Baba..." Matthew sent her a warning glare.

"I know. I am not someone that would disrespect the future King of Lycan and the son of the woman that I used to serve."

"I can’t." Matthew’s tone contained the finality that Baba never liked to hear. "I can’t let you see her."

"You cannot stop her from seeing me."

Matthew’s expression turned grave.

"Matthew, she needs to train her magick, She is very powerful. More powerful than anyone I have ever met. And we both know that an untrained witch at her caliber can be corrupted by magick. If that happens..."

"It won’t."

"You know nothing about magick."

"I will protect her."

"You cannot protect her from something you don’t even know or understand."

Matthew clenched his jaw.

"I can feel it. She needs to receive the training that she needs to control such power."

Matthew looked at Baba, his eyes unfathomable.

"I didn’t call you here to talk about her magick."

"Matthew— "

"I will not allow you to see her and test her like she’s an object."

"I need to know her limits! I need to know if— "

"Enough!" Matthew hissed, his eyes narrowed at the older woman.

"We both know about the second part of the prophecy Matthew. If that is true then it means... "

"It’s not true."

"Matthew..."

"Ava was born in the US. Her mother abandoned her, and her father died when she was seven. Then she was adopted. End of story."

"You know it’s not as simple as that," Baba said. "We need to know what she is, Matthew. We need to know the truth."

Matthew only glared at her in response.

"I know the truth." He said. "And that is... she is my mate. No matter what she is..."

"Matthew please..." Baba said. "I am doing this for— "

"If you cannot respect my decision then I suggest you leave now, Baba."

"You— "

"Ava is... mine. She is my mate. She isn’t a creature that was created by something so sinister."

Baba pursed her lips. Seeing the anger in the young man’s eyes, she sighed.

"I understand. I will not mention it again." Baba took another sip of her chosen drink. She thought about the first prophecy and how she was able to hide the second part of it.

[As soon as the moon turns red, a kiss shall mark the reunion of enemies.]

[One created by Malice and Malevolence, the other born from the Moon. ]

Matthew, the next Lycan king was definitely the person who was born from the Moon. So, what about the other one?

The one created by Malice?

Baba couldn’t understand it at first.

But when Matthew called her telling her how Ava’s abilities had exponentially increased after the marking, she understood everything.

Ava wasn’t just any witch.

Her abilities, the way she used magick naturally as if it was part of her body and her aura was different. It was something that could be amplified with anger.

Nowadays witches rely on nature for their abilities. They don’t rely on their emotions. Especially not anger.

But Matthew refused to accept her explanations and suspicions. To Matthew, Ava was his mate.

No matter what happened, no matter what she is, she is his mate.

Wolves.

Baba rolled her eyes again.

The need to protect their mates to the point of acting like a crazy bastard was considered natural.

"Hmmm?" Baba’s expression changed when she felt something ominous. She turned her head to her left and right. "What was that?"

"What was what?"

Baba slowly patted her chest.

"Do you have any other witch inside this mansion aside from Ava and I?"

"No," Matthew said.

Without saying anything, Baba suddenly got up.

"What’s wrong?" Matthew followed behind her as she walked out of his office.

"Where’s Ava?" Baba asked.

"Why?"

"Someone is using... a dark magick."

"What?"

"A... curse. Someone is trying to hurt your-" Baba hastened her steps. Her chest became heavier and heavier. Soon, she had to support herself as she started to struggle with breathing.

"Matthew... find Ava!" she uttered.

"What?" Seeing Baba’s expression, Matthew squinted. "I told you... I am not going to...."

"We don’t have time!" Baba said. After performing a protection spell on herself she ran towards the source of the dark entity that seemed to pressure everyone into submission. "Is this her room?"

"Baba I am warning you..." Matthew growled behind her.

"I know Matthew. I just need to know what is— " However, before she could finish the rest of her words, the large wooden door opened. Ava stood in front of them. Her white long dress fluttered as she smiled.

"Baba!" Ava said. "I have been waiting."

And right then and there Baba knew. Ava or whoever she really was, was not the target of that malevolent energy. She was the source of it.

"You should rest." Of course, Matthew was quick to pull Ava back to the room. He even went as far as to block Ava’s gaze.

"What?" Ava asked. "I thought Baba came to see me? Is this about the prophecy? Did you find something about a witch and a Lycan’s mating?"

Baba faked a smile on her wrinkled face.

Witches... don’t have mates, she wanted to say. The reason why she has one was because she was no witch.

Instead, she said. "Yes. I came to talk to you."
