Chapter 84: Dragging Matthew Graydon’s Name

A Royal Witch.

From the Family of Royals.

Interesting.

Ava knew she was not from those families though. Her father was human. And she was certain he was her father as... they had the same features. Eyes and hair color even their pale skin carried such resemblance. Sadly, that was the only thing she could remember about her father.

As for her mother?

She never knew who she was.

Her father told her she died.

The fact that he didn’t even mention her name or bring Ava to her grave was enough to tell Ava that her mother didn’t die.

She abandoned her.

Was that because she was part of this Royal Family?

Perhaps.

Perhaps not.

Either way, leaving your own child alone with your human partner to survive, knowing that she would inherit your magick is fucked up.

Unless of course, you had some special reason. Reasons that could easily get you and your child killed. What a conclusion.

Ava chose to laugh it off.

But then again, she had reasons to suspect such things.

After all, her father was human.

A human killed by shifters for reasons... she didn’t know.

She closed her eyes. In the past, she didn’t need to use mediums to perform magick. No casting, no candles or crystals. Of course, she had to fake it especially when people were watching.

But Baba already knew that Ava was different.

While Ava was still holding back the information on the fact that she could walk inside other people’s dreams, Baba knew that she could use magick without casting. She concentrated on the fire as it flickered. It came alive.

A symbol of life itself.

While this wasn’t exactly her first time doing magick. This was the first time that she took the time to envision it, to see it inside her head.

"Hm?"

The fire inside her head suddenly flickered before it dimmed. And finally, she could see the fire dying.

Ava gasped before she opened her eyes.

Just as she expected, the candle in front of her died. Baba told her to call her once she’s able to keep the candlelights for at least thirty minutes.

Forget thirty minutes.

She can’t even keep it for even five.

Ava always thought she was powerful and talented. She was gifted. With her three gifts, using devastating spells was easy for her. She could kill someone in a heartbeat with her magick. She took immeasurable pride in her abilities.

But when it came to controlling her powers.

She was clearly lacking.

"Where’s Matthew?" Ava asked Simon who was stationed outside, her bedroom, in wait.

"The master is currently at Graydon Pharma. In a meeting."

"With who?" Ava squinted. The Lycan in front of her was nervous for some reason.

"Board members."

"Take me to Graydon Pharma."

"I’m afraid I cannot do that."

"Why not?"

"The Master wants to keep the Mistress safe..."

"Safe and prisoners are two different things." Ava started walking away from the Lycan. She understood that Simon didn’t like her. She also understood and accepted the fact that Simon’s loyalty will always lie with Matthew.

"Mistress please...."

"I am going to train." Ava said. Combat. Yes, Baba told her to at least fight against Lycans. To use her ability against them.

"Master said..."Simon didn’t complete his words when Ava turned towards him. He gulped. Then he said, "I will inform the Master."

"Good." Ava walked back towards her room to change into more comfortable clothing for sparring. This time, she was planning to fight using her hands.

She couldn’t just rely on her magick— the same unstable magick that she couldn’t even bend it to her will.

After a while, she walked out of the room, dressed in running gear that consisted of an all black sports bra and equally black tight leggings. This should be perfect for training, she thought to herself.

"Mistress you— " Simon’s eyes widened as looked at her, to be exact stared at her. "You can’t wear that!"

"Huh?"

"Master will... not like something like that."

What the hell!?

Of course Ava chose to ignore his words and walked towards the elevator that would lead her to the underground facility. However, before she could reach the door, her phone vibrated.

She immediately suspected it was Matthew. To her surprise, it was Marylis.

It was a text asking her to meet her.

Ava sighed.

Then she replied.

[Ok]

...

Caffeine no longer worked on Ava’s body.

She didn’t know why coffee couldn’t keep her awake anymore. Perhaps it was because she had gotten used to it. Or maybe it really had something to do with what she was doing.

Or who she was talking to.

Ava dragged her gaze away from her coffee and stared at Marylis.

"Did I disturb you?"

"No."

"I wanted to apologize."

"Apology accepted." Ava said without batting an eyelid. Her answer immediately surprised Marylis. Her sister in law blinked her large eyes.

"I’m so sorry about the party. I was not expecting any of that."

"Sure." Ava answered. She was pissed. But she still came.

And she had no idea why.

"Ava... I know I made a mistake. It won’t happen again."

"I know Marylis." Ava smiled. "It won’t happen again." This woman was literally so nice to her in the past. But something changed.

No.

Ava didn’t need to see Marylis to know that something about what they used to have, had changed tremendously.

There was just a thick uncomfortable silence between them. They weren’t exactly fighting but Ava was sure they weren’t friends either.

This and the fact that she couldn’t sense any emotions from Marylis was really disturbing. Right now, she couldn’t sense any negative emotions from the woman. In the past, Ava chose to ignore this and thought it was because Marylis was good natured.

How could the sweet Marylis she knew, think of something sinister? She didn’t get angry. She didn’t get irritated. That was the Marylis that Ava knew.

Everything changed when Ava came back.

At one point, Ava wondered if this was because she had been exposed to many deaths and suffering when she was still working with Trillium. She worked in the field and had seen some messed up things.

Mothers who ate their own children. Father’s who married their daughters. And some more fuckeries that people did for the sake of power, for the sake of faith.

Maybe that was the reason why she became like this.

Or maybe it was because of Phil.

And the fact that Trillium wanted to use Phil.

Ava didn’t have a clue.

And right now, she was trying her best to run away from everything.

She was such a coward she hated it.

But she could literally see Phil being happy in this woman’s arms. Gabi was just born and Phil looked like he has been living his dream life.

Breaking them apart would only cause more damage to her brother.

"I’m sorry... I didn’t know that she would invite him."

"It’s alright. It’s not like I still like him." Ava shrugged. For some reason, everyone still thought that she liked her dumb ex who ghosted her.

Really?

Was it because everyone thinks she is a little dumb?

Ava stared at the woman. She wondered when would Marylis address the elephant in the room. Matthew.

The man who showed up out of nowhere and claimed Ava as his woman.

"So... when will you introduce him to us?" Marylis had a curious look on her face. "You weren’t answering our calls and even Phil was worried. He didn’t know the man so..."

"It was a one night stand."

"Oh?"

Ava nodded. Dragging Matthew into her family affairs wouldn’t sound good. Especially when she wasn’t too sure about Trillium’s involvement in everything.

Marylis’s face reddened.

"So..."

"I’m not going to introduce him."

"Oh!"

"Yes."

Marylis gave an awkward smile.

"But he didn’t look like your type at all... "

"What is my type?" Ava wanted to laugh at that. She only had one boyfriend for crying out loud and that was Broody. How could she have a type when she only had one? frёewebnoѵēl.com

"Oh... I..." Marylis lowered her head. "The nice guy type... you know just like Broody."

"Oh..." Matthew looked intimidating and commanding. And totally out of Ava’s league. This only made Ava laugh.

"Ava... I’m sorry..."

"Marylis..."

"No please before you say anything else. I want to explain."

Ava pursed her lips.

"I did something. I know you will hate me for this but I just wanted to help Broody and you blocked his number and — "

"So, you invited me so he could talk to me." Great. Ava was tempted to roll her eyes. She was already in a foul mood. And this happened.

"He begged me to see you. He found out something about his wife. So..."

Ava shrugged. She didn’t need to look behind her to know that Broody was there. After a few seconds, the man came into view, and took a seat next to Marylis.

It had only been a few days, but Broody looked like he had gotten even older. Unshaven beard and eyebags.

"What can I do for you?"

"Amelia." Broody was staring at her as if... as if she owed him something.

"What about her?"

"She used to work for that man."

"What man?"

"Stop feigning ignorance! She used to work for your man! Matthew Graydon!"

"And?"

"She was handling some secretive tasks."

"And?" Actually Ava already knew where this was going.

"You have to help me... or I will release this to the press. I will drag Matthew Graydon’s name to the ground!" His blue eyes looked almost indigo as he glared at her.
