Chapter 97: The Bond and the Breeding

"It looks like you still want to live." Ava snorted. "Good." She then clapped her hand and the pressure that enveloped the other earlier vanished. "Good."

"Miss Woods Magick is prohibited inside the building."

"I know." Ava shrugged. Then she smiled at the HR Head. "But who cares?"

Seeing the woman’s surprised face, Ava snorted. She looked at Mr. Trinidad. "Tell him... he should wait for me," Ava uttered before she uttered another spell. Her body soon disappeared in front of everyone.

.....

Ava’s face was red.

It wasn’t because she was angry or that she was thinking about Matthew. It was because teleporting herself was too taxing. It wasn’t something that she expected but she thought it might be because she already used bigger spells by suppressing a lot of people at once.

Ava knew that her magick grew. But it wasn’t endless. Using larger and more powerful spells could exhaust her. Of course, teleportation is one of those spells.

It was different from when she teleported those two Lycans that Erenes brought to suppress Matthew. Ava just sent them outside of the room. While she actually teleported more than ten floors.

This might be her limit!

"What’s wrong?"

Ava stopped walking and stared at Matthew and Marko who walked out of the office. The two must have sensed that magick as they both looked alarmed, alert, and ready to fight.

"What would happen if I kill a rich Lycan?" Ava calmly asked.

"That— "

Ava ignored Marko and walked inside Matthew’s office. Then she told them about what happened. The fact that Almeru actually leaked Ava’s files could be bigger than she originally thought. After all, Ava had other enemies from when she was still working with Trillium.

If those people found out that Ava was no longer working with Trillium and was working here...

There was a possibility that they would come and try to kill her.

"I will take care of it."

Ava turned her attention toward Matthew. The latter was expressionless. His eyes were blank and golden.

"Marko... leave us."

Marko nodded at Matthew’s words. Then he complied without saying another word.

"It looks like the Lycans won’t stop bothering you." Ava calmly said. "What’s wrong with seeing them, once?"

"We can’t."

"And why is that?"

"We aren’t certain if... my father’s witch could sense the bond that we have."

Ava squinted. Matthew and even Baba already told her that the mating created a bond between Matthew and her. It looked like a simple slavery bond that the other witches have but Baba told them she could feel that it was different. It was more powerful, more potent, and deadly. However, the bond was silent. It almost felt like it was invisible.

One would think that the bond was weak because Matthew couldn’t handle his slave.

But a powerful witch might be able to guess that this wasn’t a bond of slavery.

Ava sighed. She leaned back and closed her eyes.

"If we won’t see them, they won’t stop," Ava said. Erenes’s and Kieran’s warnings echoed inside her head. Almeru might be acting at the orders of the King.

Now that would only complicate things.

"We don’t want to complicate things, do we?" Matthew said.

"For a Lycan, you are surprisingly calm about things," Ava said. She heard that Lycans can be very hot-headed and troublemakers. They are prideful and arrogant and would never cower away from their enemies.

Matthew turned towards her. He was standing next to Ava but for a short while, he felt so far away from her. She frowned.

"I wouldn’t cower against Lycans but witches can do things... unimaginable things to you." Matthew sighed. "My mother was killed by a witch too. I grew up without her. Baba practically raised me but she couldn’t stay inside the palace. I had to live in a small residence outside until... until they realized that my blood was purer."

"Purer?"

"It’s genetics. Lycans have been around for centuries and our numbers are dwindling. Mostly it was because of inbreeding and other methods that we did to try and have more of our kind. As you know...we cannot just create a Lycan. The people that we bite would turn into werewolves. They are weaker and they cannot control their transformation. Lycans don’t want that." Matthew clenched his jaw.

"So we did everything to have more... children. We use laboratories and study our very own existence. King and Princes are required to marry at least five women. See if they can bear their children. If they can, they are lucky. If they can’t they are thrown away like rugs."

Ava gulped. She was not aware of this. Lycans have always been secretive about their kind.

Matthew continued. "The King isn’t decided by birthright anymore. It is decided by whose blood is the purest. The one who has less human genes, the one who has the potential to breed, and the one who can be one with their wolf even without a mate."

"So, the reason why they want you back..."

"They want me to mark a Queen. Fuck her and then marry another woman and another until I have my own children."

For some reason, the thought of Matthew marrying another woman immediately made her uncomfortable. No. She wasn’t just uncomfortable. She was... fuming.

This was not good.

She was too angry for a rational conversation.

Ava closed her eyes and managed to calm her breathing.

"So the laboratory..."

"The experiments that I am doing are one of the reasons why the current King allowed me to leave."

"The current King is... your father, no?"

"Yes." Matthew nodded. "But to me... he is just the King."

"Did he..." Ava thought that the King only have two brides. One was Matthew’s mother and the other was the current Queen.

"He has four other mistresses. Most of them are dead. The others are just serving him, working as slaves. Of course, this information is a secret."

"How many... siblings do you have then?" Kieran and Drigo were already irritating enough. Did this mean that Ava would soon meet more of these people?

"Ah... twelve... only eight lives. Including me."

"That is one hell of a dick." Ava covered her mouth. "Sorry... I mean... he is one hell of a king."

Matthew chuckled in response.

"So... you are looking for ways to increase the Lycan population?"

"Lycans with pure bloods... or at least purer than the ones who were born from a weak human mother."

Ava blinked. Genetics. DNA. And all of those things sounded complicated. But she understood one simple problem. Technology and evolution. With the witch’s curse upon them, Lycan couldn’t create another Lycan. Now, they are trying to use technology to create more of their kinds.

"So... the hybrids..." Ava thought about the one that they fought when she was taken. Those shifters reeked of blood and some nasty smell.

"Hybrids...are a freak of nature. The Witches created them."

Ava’s eyes widened. At first, she didn’t want to ask anything about them as she didn’t want Matthew to think that she was being too nosy. She waited for him to tell her about Hybrids but he didn’t.

"So, you think Trillium is involved in making hybrids?"

"Who knows?" Matthew shrugged. "However, I am sure that witches were the ones creating hybrids in an attempt to create a warrior. Though... we already tried all methods to check the corpse of those people and we couldn’t find anything that could explain their sudden changes. We believe witches found a way to make humans into shifters by summoning demons. But these are presumptions. We cannot confirm it. We need more... information."

"You mean more bodies." Ava calmly said.

"Yes. We need more of those hybrids. Alive... if possible."

Ava stared at Matthew and silently regretted asking questions. For some reason, she felt like she just stumbled into a big secret. And now she had no choice but to involve herself in this matter.

"So... the Lycans would definitely try to kill me if I kill Almeru," Ava mumbled.

"Almeru has three wives. No children. His family wants him to have a child soon." Matthew said. "His family would probably try to kill you the moment you touch their heir."

"Only if they know it’s me." Ava smiled. "Of course... I’m not saying that I am really going to touch him. I am not that kind of witch." The smile on her face turned into a weird grin.

"I know."

"So... now, it is established that we cannot go back to see your father," Ava said. "But what If your father will come and see you?"

"That won’t happen."

"Why?"

"He doesn’t want to see me."

"But the nobles are pressuring him, right? I would assume that some people would want you to fuck their daughters..." A different glint appeared in Ava’s eyes. "Especially the ones supporting your father." She smirked then leaned closer to her man. "Be honest... Matthew. This isn’t just about the bond, right?"
