Chapter 100 Interview

"Listening" is a high-end interview program launched by China National Radio, which focuses on all aspects of society and listens to the voices of people.

This interview focused on the theme of "helping farmers." The program invited the five members of the chaebol family to the studio to hear their personal experiences after going to the countryside to farm.

When Jiang Hexi heard the words "helping farmers," she was completely baffled and didn't know what to do.

While letting Si Xiao apply makeup to her face, she took out her phone to send a message:

Smiling: [The staff just said that this interview focuses on helping farmers.]

Smiling: [Why is this different from what I said before? Wasn't this supposed to be a response to the concerns of netizens?]

Smiling face: [Hey, you two, could you please come out and explain @Jie and @DaYuDuoDuoFlood?]

Young White Poplar: [Brothers, what does our involvement in helping farmers have to do with this?]

Yu Meiren: [I have nothing to say on this topic.]

Yu the Great failed to control the floods: [I only learned about this from a staff member ten minutes ago.]

Jie: [I only found out about this agricultural assistance program from the group messages.]

Smiling: [We were clearly forced to go to the countryside to farm, but they insist on calling it helping farmers...]

Smiling: [This topic is way too sophisticated.]

Smiling broadly: [We've made our tall hats teeter on the brink of collapse, feeling like they might fall down at any moment.]

Yu Meiren: [We can't afford to offend state media easily; even a single wrong word can lead to being held accountable.]

Yu Meiren: [But we often talk nonsense, and hardly anything we say is serious.]

Yu the Great failed to control the floods: [...]

Young White Poplar: [I don't want to be banned right after my debut, someone please save me! Aaaaaaah!]

Smiling: [King Yan, look at the trouble you've brought upon everyone! Tell me quickly how to resolve this!]

Jie: [You may not have eaten pork, but you've at least seen a pig run, right?]

Jie: [Have you watched "Xinwen Lianbo" (News Broadcast)? Have you watched "Focus Interview"?]

Jie: [Just speak in that tone. If you really can't speak, just act profound. Silence is golden.]

When the time came, the five of them had no choice but to bite the bullet and go for it.

Xue Tao is known to the public for his humorous and witty hosting style. He is very knowledgeable and can handle any topic that is thrown his way.

For the first time, the "Listening" program adopted a live interactive interview format, and Xue Tao was undoubtedly the best choice to host it.

At the start of the show, he imitated Jiang Hexi, delivering a self-deprecating monologue that won cheers from the audience and viewers in the live stream.

"I don't know why I'm sitting here hosting this show."

"If I had to name one achievement I can be proud of, it would be that I participated in the CCTV Host Competition after graduation and won this prize."

As he spoke, he held up one finger in front of the camera.

The audience members guessed: "First place?"

Xue Tao shook her head nonchalantly.

The audience guessed again: "Last place!"

"So being able to host the program 'Listening' is the greatest honor of my life."

Xue Tao spoke eloquently, saying, "I'm sure everyone knows who said this immersive VCR monologue that's gone viral online. Now let's give the warmest applause to welcome the five-member chaebol group."

The live stream camera then turned to five people sitting upright on the sofa, smiling politely.

[The sudden change in style told me they were up to something.]

Are the five chaebol members nervous? Otherwise, why are they all sitting so upright and smiling so seriously?

I'm used to their joking around, so seeing this scene suddenly feels really strange.

Xue Tao greeted them familiarly and then began to ask them questions one by one, specifically targeting their questions:

"Xi-mei, why did you decide to go to the countryside to farm and experience life?"

Jiang Hexi's mind was filled with the keyword "helping farmers," and she answered the question in a positive and proactive way, based on her own experience:

"At first, I was also confused and didn't understand why the director would choose me to go to the countryside to farm."

"It wasn't until I drove a tractor to sow seeds and plow the fields, raised chickens by hand, and picked peaches by hand, that I truly understood how hard it is to earn a penny."

“Before, I used abstract concepts like ‘a small goal’ to describe money. Now I have a more concrete understanding of money, which is that a free-range egg costs one dollar and sixty cents.”

After she finished speaking, Yu Xiangwan tugged at her arm hard, and she immediately shut her mouth and didn't say anything more.

The audience erupted in laughter.

Xue Tao then turned to the others present and asked, "Yan Jie, as a top race car driver, how did you convince yourself to go to the countryside to farm?"

Yan Jie looked at the live stream camera with a serious expression and gave a textbook-perfect answer:

“My maternal grandfather and my paternal grandfather were born in remote mountainous areas. They were among the first rural people to leave the mountains through the college entrance examination and completely change their fate. They have a deep affection for the land.”

“I grew up under their guidance and know that my roots are in the countryside. This time, thanks to my grandfather’s arrangement, I am very fortunate to be able to go to the countryside to experience life.”

"I want to apply what I've learned to agricultural work, work hard in the countryside and make a difference, and use my knowledge to give back to this rural area that has nurtured countless generations."

Upon hearing this, the four people present looked at Yan Jie with shock in their eyes; he was simply too eloquent!

When Xue Tao interviewed such an unconventional guest for the first time, his expression immediately cracked.

[Their answers are ridiculously formal! Even for state media, this is far too hypocritical.]

[Yan Wang was speaking in a very serious tone, but I found everything he said to be hilarious.]

[Hahaha, that's not how it is at all. They didn't have that many legitimate reasons; they were all forced to go to the countryside to farm.]

[Xue Tao probably never imagined that such a high-class and sophisticated program would be turned into a scene of pretentious posturing and humiliation by the five chaebols.]

Xue Tao dared not continue asking this question, fearing that they were all good at pretending and that she wouldn't be able to get a single truth out of them.

"Many netizens have suggested that the five of you form a group and debut. Given your current popularity, do you have any plans to enter the entertainment industry?"

Jiang Hexi said firmly, "I'm not interested in the entertainment industry. I just want to farm properly. I don't have that idea now, and I won't have that idea in the future."

Yan Jie: "Xi Mei and I share the same idea."

Shen Yingyu: "The significance of farming variety shows is profound. After participating in this variety show, I lost interest in all other shows."

Yu Xiangwan: "I agree with the above."

Finally, Chu Yang was left. He wavered between sticking to his original intention and giving a standardized answer. In the end, he spoke:

"I will enter the entertainment industry."
