Jiang Hexi took his arm and said, "Let's go in, whatever you say."
The two walked hand in hand into the courtyard. Everyone in the main hall turned to look at them upon hearing their footsteps.
Yan Jie entered the door and greeted his family members first:
"Grandpa, Mom and Dad, I brought Ximei here to see you."
He went on to say, "This is my grandfather. I met him at your maternal grandfather's house before."
"Hello, Grandpa Yan."
Jiang Hexi smiled, her eyes sparkling, and presented the gift box in her arms to Old Master Yan, saying in a sweet, clear voice:
"My maternal grandfather really liked the gold-plated teapot that my paternal grandfather gave him, and insisted that I give him a landscape painting that he treasured."
Grandpa Yan accepted the gift box with both hands, gently stroking the grain of the pear wood as he said:
"Your grandfather is too kind. Please thank him properly when you get back."
Yan Jie then added, "These are my dad and my mom."
Jiang Hexi greeted them in a sweet and clear voice, "Hello, Uncle and Aunt."
Father Yan, who never showed his emotions, nodded slightly at Jiang Hexi.
Aunt Chu smiled faintly, beckoned to Jiang Hexi, and pulled her to sit down beside her.
“Xi-mei, I often see you on TV. Your parents have raised you very well. You and A-Jie together are a good thing for my son.”
As she spoke, she slipped the jade bracelet she was wearing onto Jiang Hexi's wrist, not allowing her to refuse, and said:
"Since this is your first time visiting our home, we elders should give you a gift. Here you go."
Unable to refuse, Jiang Hexi looked to Yan Jie for help. Seeing him nod at her, she accepted the gift.
"Thank you, Auntie."
