Chapter 5 Ten Thousand Taels of Gold

Jiang Hexi had seen free-range chickens, but never a "fighting chicken" that flapped its wings and glided down from halfway up the mountain!

The scene was so shocking and the momentum so overwhelming, especially after they started scattering filth into the air, that it reached its peak.

Yan Jie and Shen Yingyu were the first to react. They turned and ran, sprinting towards the banyan tree at top speed.

Jiang Hexi took off and followed.

Three aerial drones were urgently withdrawn, and the filming director and staff also ran frantically.

For a moment, yellow sand flew up on the path, and the large group of people fled back in a great procession. Pheasants flew overhead and frantically "dropped bombs". Amid the loud croaking of the pheasants, the cries of people being "shot" could be heard one after another.

Yan Jie and Shen Yingyu managed to reach the banyan tree before the pheasant landed, narrowly escaping disaster.

Jiang Hexi was caught up by Yu Xiangwan halfway through. Just as a swarm of pheasants was about to fly overhead, Yu Xiangwan opened her straight-handled umbrella, pulled her over, and held her tightly in her arms.

Only Chu Yang was left behind. Seeing that there was nowhere to hide, he simply covered his head with the copper basin.

Pheasants flying in the sky and running on the ground all swarmed around him. He tried his best to tighten his body, but he was still unlucky enough to be hit on the arm by chicken droppings falling from the sky.

"Ugh—it stinks!"

[Where did Xi Mei and Xiao Baiyang come from? They're hilarious!]

[Five silly guys trying to catch chickens ended up getting beaten up by the chickens the whole way!]

[At midday, I burst into loud, pig-like laughter in the cafeteria, and the people around me thought I was choking.]

[The moment Yu Xiangwan embraced Xi Mei with such domineering force, all idol dramas paled in comparison!]

I seriously suspect that Jiang Hexi is a fake heiress; otherwise, how could she utter such a vulgar slogan as "A clattering copper basin means a fortune in gold!"

Yan Jie and Shen Yingyu ran incredibly fast, their long legs filling the screen! Just imagining how pathetic they looked being chased by the pheasants makes me laugh so hard my legs almost broke!

Chu Yang ran to the stream to wash his hands, wailing in pain.

The other four weren't much better off; they were exhausted and hungry, and they still had to carry baskets up the mountain to collect eggs.

Chicken coops are set up every few meters under the shade of trees on the mountain.

Jiang Hexi walked up the drainage ditch, picking up any eggs she saw and rummaging through any chicken coops she saw. Before she even reached the halfway point, she had filled half a basket with eggs, which hung heavily on her arm.

Yan Jie followed slowly behind her, not picking up a single egg. Seeing that her basket was almost full, he stepped forward and blocked her path.

Are you hungry?

"I'm starving."

Would you like some eggs?

"Yes, I do!"

Seeing that her eyes had lit up, Yan Jie smiled relaxedly, handed her the empty basket in exchange for the half-basket of eggs, and said matter-of-factly:

"I'll go down the mountain to boil eggs."

"etc."

Jiang Hexi coldly called out to him, "Why is your basket empty?"

"I have obsessive-compulsive disorder related to cleanliness."

Yan Jie walked down the mountain without looking back, saying, "I'll leave the egg-collecting job to you."

Jiang Hexi thought to himself, "No wonder. When the pheasant flies down the mountain, it is the fastest runner."

She climbed all the way to the top of the mountain, filled a basket to the brim, and then came down the mountain. She put the eggs together with those of Yu Xiangwan and Shen Yingyu, and counted them. There were a total of 382 eggs.

Sister-in-law Zhou said in surprise, "This number is wrong. We have nearly a thousand free-range chickens on our hill. Even at the lowest rate, they would lay at least four hundred eggs. How come the egg production rate is less than forty percent this time?"

Yan Jie brought a basket of boiled eggs to the table. "Sister-in-law, count them again to see if there are enough."

Sister-in-law Zhou was utterly shocked. "You boiled all of these eggs?"

Yan Jie: "Cook it."

"There are at least sixty eggs in this basket!"

Sixty-four.

Sister-in-law Zhou was furious. Ignoring whether they were filming or not, she yelled at the top of her lungs:

"How could you be so wasteful? Who raises chickens that can eat sixty eggs at a time? A free-range egg sells for eighty cents wholesale, and you ate more than forty dollars' worth in one meal!"

Yan Jie corrected her again, saying, "It's fifty-one yuan and twenty cents."

Sister-in-law Zhou was so angry she almost fainted. She turned around and saw the other four people reaching into the basket, each taking a few eggs, peeling them, and eating them, completely ignoring her insults.

Seeing that they had finished taking the eggs, Yan Jie picked up his basket and walked towards the staff outside the venue, politely saying:

"There are still so many eggs left. It would be a waste if you didn't eat them. Since none of us have had lunch yet, take a few to tide us over."

The staff were deeply moved by these words.

They hadn't expected Yan Jie, who seemed aloof, to be so considerate in real life. They all accepted the eggs he offered, repeatedly saying thank you.

Yan Jie kept saying "You're welcome" and walked around the outer area, distributing all the eggs in the basket.

After the staff member finished eating the egg in his hand, his expression changed instantly:

"Director Chen, could you please settle the bill? You've eaten a total of fifty-four of my eggs."

What bill?

Director Chen vehemently denied it, saying, "These eggs were clearly given to the staff for free by you."

“I was just promoting, I never said anything about it being free,” Yan Jie insisted. “Of course, if you try to cheat in front of the whole country, there’s nothing I can do about it.”

Director Chen regretted eating his eggs and said to the accountant, "Give him the money."

Yan Jie emphasized, "Two yuan for one egg."

"Sister-in-law Zhou just said that the wholesale price of a free-range egg is only 80 cents."
