I do
In a black velvet gift box half the size of a palm, a silver ring lay quietly. The center of the ring was sunken and a transparent diamond was embedded on the surface. Looking inside, there was a small black stone. When it moved slightly, you could see the stone shaking.
Shao Zizhuo stared at the ring, his breath stagnating. Unspeakable joy washed over him like a tide. He looked up in disbelief: "What did you say?"
Guan Shanyue swallowed nervously, handed the ring box forward, and stared intently into Shao Zizhuo's eyes. "Many people around me are married with children or single and DINK. They all have their own happiness and unhappiness, but I've never had any idea about marriage, especially my own."
"There are many things in my life. First, there's the responsibility and mission of making progress. I carry the burden of a life my parents and sister risked their lives for. I can't slack off, and I'm not allowed to. Pausing would be irreversible, and marriage, I see as the irreversible step in this irreversible process."
"Marriage will affect my job promotion and salary increase, will make me trapped in endless housework, will make me become someone's mother, someone's wife, and eventually give up all my ideals, pick up a spatula and scramble around the stove, taking care of my husband and children all day, and relying on the glory of my husband and children as my face."
"Yes, I'm afraid of marriage and children. I'm afraid of being bound to my home by worldly demands, afraid of having my wings clipped by a greenhouse or a cold room, and afraid that all my efforts since childhood will be for nothing after giving birth to a life."
"Until I suddenly arrived in this time and space and was told that I would have a child and would have to have a husband I had never met and had no emotional connection with, I was reluctant." Guan Shanyue chuckled. "But you also know that the system is charged, and I don't have the right to refuse."
"I accepted the system's mission, deconstructed the plot, and achieved my goal through twists and turns. Then, amidst all my goals, I encountered your true heart."
"I can't resist. I can't help but want to get closer, even though I've told myself a thousand times that I'm just a stand-in arranged by the system, and that our feelings are just a show, just for fun. Who would take it seriously?"
"Later, I found myself getting upset because you called Yuan Wangshu, my emotions fluctuating over a single word from you, and I would deliberately get angry with you. All of my complex thoughts were caused by you."
"I finally have to awkwardly admit that I like you."
"After a long separation, when Zhenzhen became an inseparable part of my life, I sorted out my heart. I still have lingering fears about marriage, but love can easily transcend the barriers of time and space and can also dispel my worries and anxieties."
"Mr. Shao, whether rich or poor, sick or healthy, beautiful or fading, successful or unlucky, will you always hold my hand? Will you participate in my life and take up the blank space next to my name as husband?"
Guan Shanyue became calmer as she spoke, but she couldn't suppress the smile on her lips. She held up the ring in her hand calmly, waiting for the man's reply.
Shao Zizhuo babbled incoherently: "But, proposing marriage requires..."
The confession of love was so direct that it almost knocked Shao Zizhuo unconscious. He looked around panically. The hospital was so quiet at night that only the sound of the pacemaker could be heard. There were no flowers or balloons, no cruise ships or helicopters. Just in front of the whitewashed walls of the hospital, she took out a ring and proposed to him without him being prepared.
Across the wall, Zhenzhen lay unconscious, the needle liquid entering her body along the transparent plastic line. And the person before him, bare-faced, wrapped in casually homely clothes, was as ordinary as every day and night, with nothing special to be found.
It was too simple and completely contrary to his plan.
All of this was unexpected, but he could clearly sense the emotion called "happiness", which was released to every corner of his body with his breathing, and his thoughts were a little dizzy.
Guan Shanyue's smile grew even wider: "Who stipulated how a marriage proposal should be done? As long as I have you and me, that's all that matters."
Shao Zizhuo looked into her eyes. Her pupils had always been clear, but at this moment and in this situation, there was only him in her pupils. His heart calmed down a little bit, and he was once again attracted by gravity.
He took a deep breath: "I do."
He then asked, "Then Miss Guan, are you willing to share the joys and sorrows with me from now on?"
Guan Shanyue's eyes curved with laughter. She pulled Shao Zizhuo's hand from her side, spread it open, and put the ring on his ring finger: "This is a fragment of a meteorite, coming from billions of light years away, just like me, suddenly appearing and then staying in this world. As for your answer..."
Guan Shanyue pointed to the black stone on the ring: "It's all here."
My heart is not made of stone; it cannot be turned.
Guan Shanyue looked at Shao Zizhuo with a smile.
Before she could react, she was pulled into a warm embrace, a familiar, safe, and temporary resting place that sheltered her from the wind and rain. She closed her eyes peacefully and enjoyed the tranquility of the moment.
"Whose child has lost his injections! Where are the parents? Why is there no one watching?" A nurse's whispered scolding could be heard in the room.
Guan Shanyue woke up as if from a dream, and with a red face, she crawled out of Shao Zizhuo's arms. She took two steps at a time and hurried into the room to apologize to the nurse: "I'm sorry, we were careless for a moment."
The nurse looked her up and down. She did look a little tired. She shook her head and said, "It's a little late. Please take good care of her. After you finish this bottle, you can go home."
Guan Shanyue expressed her gratitude profusely.
After everyone left, Guan Shanyue stuck out her tongue embarrassedly. Shao Zizhuo looked at her and they smiled at each other.
When Zhenzhen woke up again, it was already the next morning. She lay in bed, tugging at the corner of the quilt, hesitant, wondering, "Why hasn't anyone come to wake me up yet?" She turned over and tried to continue sleeping.
But just as she closed her eyes, she suddenly remembered what happened last night. She touched the back of her right hand and felt pain. Zhenzhen lifted the quilt and saw the tiny red needle holes on her skin, which were extremely glaring. Her heart suddenly became a little panicked, and she shouted loudly: "Dad!"
It was quiet outside and there was no response.
Zhenzhen panicked, sat up from the quilt, rubbed her eyes, and shouted again: "Mom!"
The door was pushed open from the outside, and Zhenzhen was embraced in a fragrant hug. Her mother's curly hair brushed across her ears, tickling her a little, and she giggled.
Guan Shanyue pinched her nose and said, "Little lazy boy, you don't have to go to school today! Mommy has asked for leave for you. Your dad left on a business trip this morning, so Mommy quietly asked for leave for you. I was thinking I could spend the whole day with you, but suddenly there was a meeting that Mommy had to attend. I'll ask Auntie Wang to take you out to play all morning, okay? Mommy will be back to play with you after the meeting."
Zhenzhen couldn't hear what was said next. She nudged her hard, as excited as a piglet about to jump over a fence. "Can I really not go to school, Mom?"
Guan Shanyue nodded: "Sure." She looked at her watch, "Mom is going to be late. Aunt Wang is in the living room. I'll ask her to come in and help you wash up."
Zhenzhen sat obediently, her eyes and eyebrows full of joy: "Go, Mom, I will definitely listen to Grandma Wang!"
Aunt Wang also came in: "Miss Guan, don't worry, Zhenzhen is very well behaved."
Guan Shanyue kissed Shao Kezhen hard and left reluctantly. Woohoo, the CEOs in the books are not like this. Why is it so hard when it is her turn?
Seeing her mother close the door and leave, Zhenzhen jumped up excitedly: "Auntie Wang! Let's go eat the fried chicken my mother bought me last night, okay?"
Aunt Wang shook her head: "Zhenzhen's stomach hasn't healed yet. She can only eat light food today, and no fried food."
Zhenzhen was like a deflated ball, deflated all of a sudden. She thought about it and started to make excuses, "I felt uncomfortable eating fried chicken yesterday because it was dark when I ate it. Today it's just dawn, so I won't have a stomachache."
Aunt Wang shook her head firmly. Zhenzhen saw that her coquettish behavior was ineffective, so she sat down on the sofa angrily.
I’m not allowed to eat fried chicken, I’m not allowed to go to kindergarten, and my parents are not at home. It’s so boring.
She thought about it and asked, "Can I go outside the kindergarten and play with Meimei?"
That’s fine, Aunt Wang breathed a sigh of relief, packed up her things and took her out.
When they arrived at the kindergarten gate, Zhenzhen stayed obediently in Aunt Wang's arms, carefully distinguishing the children who were doing outdoor activities inside through the thick colorful iron railings. This one was not her, and that one was not her. She couldn't find Meimei.
Suddenly a voice came from the railing: "Zhenzhen!"
Shao Kezhen looked over in the direction of the voice and saw Meimei standing at the railing, waving at her. She urgently asked Aunt Wang, "Grandma Wang, let me down. I'll go talk to Meimei!"
Aunt Wang put her down and followed her closely. Zhenzhen pouted unhappily: "Grandma Wang, can you give me a little space of my own?" Her mother didn't even listen to her secrets with her friends!
Aunt Wang was amused. Such a tiny person actually knew his own space. She stepped back a few steps and gave Zhenzhen a few meters to talk to her classmates.
In the distance, in an extended Rolls-Royce.
"Are you sure it's her?" Lin Wan rolled down the car window and stared greedily at the little person in front of her, whose teeth were showing so happily. The person was so small that he looked like Guan Shanyue, as if they were cast from the same mold.
The person next to him said flatteringly, "Yes, I've been watching this kindergarten for many days and I'm sure I won't make a mistake. This is Shao Zizhuo and Guan Shanyue's child. And the one next to them is Shao Zizhuo's nanny, who has worked in his family for several years."
Lin Wan snorted coldly. She was cute, but she wasn't sure if she would be obedient. If they could control her, it would be easy to control Shao Zizhuo. After all, bloodlines can't be severed, right? After all these years, and with the Shao family in trouble, Shao Zizhuo couldn't just stand by and watch them die.
She smiled faintly: "Since you haven't admitted your mistake, then take my granddaughter away."
