I'm so anxious

I'm so anxious

As the workday drew to a close, Special Assistant Liu, who had been promoted to Vice President, came in with a stack of documents. "Mr. Shao, we've recently achieved results from a major scientific research project within the core engineering project. Here's a summary report..."

Shao Zizhuo looked at his watch and interrupted Special Assistant Liu who was reporting: "I have something else to do today, so I won't be checking it for now. Come back tomorrow morning."

Special Assistant Liu looked at Mr. Shao, who was beaming with joy, and swallowed his offer to work overtime tonight. He quickly put on a smile and said, "Okay, I'll come see you tomorrow."

Shao Zizhuo raised his eyebrows, said nothing, picked up the coat on the back of the chair, and walked out the door.

Special Assistant Liu glanced at the time. Was he right? The workaholic had retired early? It seems family is the cradle of successful people. Ah, it seems I can't get married before I'm successful in my career!

Shao Zizhuo had no idea what Special Assistant Liu was thinking. He drove to the flower shop, picked up the flowers he had ordered in advance, and then rushed to the kindergarten. As he thought about tonight's arrangements, the corners of his lips curled up involuntarily.

It's like falling into a wine barrel, with the overwhelming amount of wine rushing over and pouring into my mouth. I'm drunk and dreaming, but I'm enjoying it and don't want to wake up.

It was not until Shao Zizhuo stood at the entrance of the kindergarten that he put away his smile.

But even with an expressionless face, his appearance suddenly attracted many people's attention, and his eyes were focused only on the children who were leaving kindergarten. The children were wearing the same color school uniforms, walking out in pairs holding hands, and then scattered like birds returning to their nests, chirping and shouting.

Shao Zizhuo stared for a long time. It wasn't this one, nor was it that one. Finally, he saw a figure from behind. He breathed a sigh of relief and walked over there. As a result, the child fell into someone else's arms and was picked up by an adult, revealing a completely unfamiliar face. He stopped again, and it wasn't Zhenzhen either.

All the children ran to their respective parents, leaving only two little boys who couldn't find their parents by the teacher's side. They looked around anxiously, looking like they were about to cry.

Shao Zizhuo's heart suddenly tightened. He stood at the door of the kindergarten with his mind blank.

Zhenzhen is not in kindergarten. Where did she go?

After sending the last child to school, the teacher looked up and suddenly saw him. She walked over to him with a puzzled look and asked, "Zhenzhen's father, why are you here at the kindergarten? Zhenzhen's mother asked for leave for her today, so she didn't come to kindergarten today. Didn't her mother tell you?"

Shao Zizhuo was stunned for a moment, then smiled politely: "Thank you for the reminder, teacher. I told you, but I forgot because I was busy."

His pounding heart slowly began to fall, but it hung there, neither rising nor falling. His left eye twitched twice at an inopportune moment, and his heart suddenly tightened again. He ignored what the teacher said, smiled woodenly, and turned to dial the phone.

The phone rang several times before the other party picked it up. The voice on the other end was low and hushed, "What's wrong, Zizhuo?"

Hearing Guan Shanyue's voice, Shao Zizhuo's wandering heart returned to Hong Kong. He took a deep breath and asked her, "Have you asked for leave for Zhenzhen today?"

The person on the other end sighed, seeming a little guilty. "Yes, I forgot to tell you. I was thinking of asking for her leave today to take her out to play, but suddenly I had a meeting. I came to the company this morning, and it's been going on till now."

Shao Zizhuo breathed a sigh of relief and calmed down completely. He was glad that nothing happened. "Is the meeting about to end now? I'll pick you up."

The receiver seemed to be briefly covered, and the sound was covered by a thick film, making it quite unclear. After a while, the other party said with a relieved look: "You can go now. I'll be done in about fifteen minutes."

Shao Zizhuo looked up at the top floor of the office building opposite. The blue glass reflected the sunlight, making it impossible to see what was going on inside. But he knew she was there, and the corners of his lips rose slightly again: "Okay, I'll wait for you at the company gate."

Just after hanging up the phone, Special Assistant Wang called again: "Mr. Shao, the venue is set up and the mermaid actor is in place. Is there anything else you need?"

Shao Zizhuo got into the car, his hands on the steering wheel, his fingertips tapping lightly: "We will be a little later than the scheduled time, you have to control the time well."

Assistant Wang's head went numb, and he frantically calculated the time: "Okay."

After hanging up the phone, Shao Zizhuo rubbed his forehead tiredly.

The car door was suddenly opened, and Guan Shanyue rushed in like the wind. She was caught off guard and saw the flowers on the passenger seat. She was surprised and happy: "A gift for me!?"

Shao Zizhuo laughed, picked up the flowers and handed them to her: "Of course."

Guan Shanyue held the flower in his arms and asked doubtfully and guiltily, "What day is today?" Could it be that he had forgotten some random anniversary or birthday?

Shao Zizhuo fastened her seatbelt and said, "There is January 1st every year, but each January 1st belongs to a different year. The best years never come back, and every day is unique."

Guan Shanyue clicked his tongue twice, then smiled and clapped his hands: "Boss Shao, you are a philosopher."

Shao Zizhuo shook his head, trying to be nonchalant, but he couldn't help but glance at Guan Shanyue. "Don't be so frivolous. Call Aunt Wang and ask her to bring Zhenzhen downstairs. Pick her up and we'll go out for dinner tonight. They told me there's a great restaurant by the river."

Guan Shanyue dutifully called. After a long ping, the only sound was a mechanical, "The number you dialed can't be connected. Please try again later." Unconvinced, she dialed again. Aunt Wang's ringtone was resounding through the air; surely she hadn't missed it? But after a long wait, there was still a busy tone.

Guan Shanyue turned around in confusion and met Shao Zizhuo's inquiring eyes. She made up an excuse: "Auntie Wang must have been working and didn't hear it, so she didn't answer. I should go home later and give her the flowers."

Shao Zizhuo's right eye twitched violently again, and he blinked uncomfortably: "That's fine."

Guan Shanyue walked ahead, holding the flowers, pushed open the door, and called out loudly, "Zhenzhen!"

No one answered.

Guan Shanyue placed the flowers at the entrance and walked towards Zhenzhen's room, puzzled. Usually, the little brat would come running over happily, so why was he not there today?

The door of the room was ajar and opened with a gentle push. The bed was tidy and the toys were all in storage boxes. There was no sign of life at all.

Where are the people?

Guan Shanyue's heart was in a panic for a moment, and Shao Zizhuo's voice sounded behind him: "Where's Zhenzhen?"

Guan Shanyue turned around, her voice a little anxious. "She's not in the room." She left the room and tried to look for her. "Zhenzhen? Aunt Wang?"

The faint hum of the refrigerator's electricity crept into her ears. Everything was so quiet it didn't seem like anyone was around. Guan Shanyue's heart leaped into her throat, memories of the kidnappings of wealthy children flooding back to her. Her voice trembled with tears as she said to Shao Zizhuo, "Call Aunt Wang again, quickly."

Her uneasiness was too obvious. Shao Zizhuo restrained his emotions and put his arm around her shoulders to comfort her. With his other hand, he dialed the phone: "Don't worry. When was the last time you contacted Aunt Wang?"

Guan Shanyue's eyes were already welling with tears. With trembling hands, she dug into her bag for her phone, looking for the call log. "At 1:35, I told her I had a meeting that afternoon and asked her to take Zhenzhen out to play. She just said okay and hung up."

Shao Zizhuo had a bad guess in his mind: "What about Zhenzhen? Did you hear her voice?"

Guan Shanyue closed her eyes and tears rolled down her cheeks. "Zhenzhen didn't say anything." She cried desperately and helplessly grasped the corner of Shao Zizhuo's clothes. "Could Zhenzhen have been kidnapped?"

Shao Zizhuo helped her sit on the sofa: "No, if it was a kidnapping, the text message demanding ransom would have been sent long ago. Don't think too much, I'll contact the police first to see if I can check the surveillance."

Shao Zizhuo supported his waist and made a phone call to communicate.

Now was not the time to cry. Guan Shanyue wiped away her tears and began to think carefully about this matter. Although Aunt Wang was not as close to Shao Zizhuo as Aunt Wu from the Shao family's old house, she had been helping Shao Zizhuo with housework since he set up his own family. She was almost like a family member to him. She would definitely not betray Shao Zizhuo.

If the problem wasn't with her, where else could it be? Are there any other clues?

Oh, right, the car!

Except for Aunt Wang who lives half-way at home, the other aunts come to the house on a regular basis every day and are responsible for some of the affairs. Usually, she and Shao Zizhuo drive themselves out, so the family does not hire a driver. In order to facilitate the aunts' travel, several cars are provided for them to use.

The car that Aunt Wang often drives is the one that she had left idle since she bought it, but it has a positioning system!

Guan Shanyue frantically searched for the mini-program for that particular car brand and logged in. She hadn't checked it in a while, and the information was slowly loading. Her heart spun with the information, filled with anxiety and panic.

After a few seconds, a message finally appeared on the screen, and the car logo stopped at an extremely familiar location on the map - the underground parking lot of the kindergarten.

Her breath paused briefly, then she began to breathe more urgently: "Zizhuo! Aunt Wang's car is parked at the kindergarten."

Shao Zizhuo hung up the phone and turned around, unable to suppress his anxiety any longer: "What?"

Guan Shanyue pointed at the location on her phone and said, "Have them check the surveillance cameras near the kindergarten. Quick!"

Shao Zizhuo picked up the phone again, and Guan Shanyue looked up at him, waiting for the result.

"The surveillance cameras near the kindergarten are broken? What about the ones at other intersections? Can't we see anything at all?" After a while, Shao Zizhuo was almost laughing out of anger.

"The surveillance chip in that area had a problem today. It can't connect to the network, and none of the data has been uploaded. There's nothing I can do, Zizhuo." The person on the other side sighed, "I'll check the surveillance cameras along the way. Don't worry, I'll have the people below take care of this right away."

Shao Zizhuo took a breath and said, "Thank you."

Guan Shanyue stood up and said resolutely: "Since the surveillance camera can't see it, then I will go directly to the car. Maybe the dashcam in the car has captured something."

Shao Zizhuo frowned and helped her change her shoes.

Just after turning off the lights and preparing to go out, Shao Zizhuo's personal phone suddenly rang, echoing in the empty house like the sound of the midnight bell.

Guan Shanyue missed a step and suddenly fell on Shao Zizhuo. At that moment, she caught a glimpse of the numbers on the mobile phone screen without any notes, jumping coldly, as if the big hand of fate was pointing them to whom she didn't know.
