Chapter 6 Dark Rose Forest
Under the blood-red full moon, a caravan camped at the entrance to the forest.
The campfire, surrounded by tents, crackled and popped, while oil dripped from the roasting meat on it, releasing a mouthwatering aroma.
There were only three young boys around the campfire, and the caravan guards wisely refrained from disturbing their young master and his new friends as they ate their midnight snack.
A demon boy, about ten years old and dressed in brocade robes, sat boredly by the campfire, poking at the burning twigs with a stick, muttering, "That human cultivator must be a fraud, right? A city-wide curfew? I should have known better than to beg Uncle Wu to take this route."
Originally, I thought the caravan wasn't far from Sinbei City, so I came to see something new. But the city lord actually said that the humans had escaped and that martial law needed to be declared to capture them. He didn't even consider that among the many demons from even greater powers in the city, none of them were obedient.
Now things are really messed up. He's probably not going to stay in his position as city lord anymore, and he, this innocent person who just wanted to join in the fun, will probably get a scolding when he gets back.
Hua Xian sighed again, silently mourning the misery that awaited her backside when she returned.
"It's ready to eat."
Su Yu seemed not to hear the complaints of the arrogant young master with red hair and a small horn on his forehead. She dutifully finished grilling the meat for the young master's extra meal and skillfully took out a knife to cut the meat.
"Alright!" Hua Xian jumped up and moved closer to Su Yu, bending down to pick up the meat with her mouth.
"Hiss, Xiao Jiu, your cooking is still so good! It was worth it for me to have such a discerning eye to bring you two along!"
Hua Xian was so happy he wanted to cry. Not long ago, he blew up the kitchen at home and was thrown out by his father to join the caravan. He was also made to solve his own food problem, so he ate dry food and wild fruit all the way, and his mouth had no taste at all. He also had to suffer from the torment of only being able to watch the other members roast their prey.
Luckily, he found Xiao Jiu, and luckily Uncle Wu turned a blind eye, otherwise he would have been drooling with envy before even getting home.
Su Yu maintained a composed smile, divided Hua Xian and Feng Shier's portions, and ate her own while occasionally glancing up at the two minors.
Watching the two of them enjoy their meal, he couldn't help but sigh inwardly that the culinary skills he had honed in the apocalypse hadn't deteriorated so easily. He was also glad that he had diligently practiced his cooking even in the apocalypse so as not to waste the food, allowing him to attract young master Hua Xian with his culinary skills.
Although he only tried to hitch a ride on this caravan he happened to meet after leaving the city to ensure his safety, the young master was quite adorable; at least he didn't order his subordinates to capture him and Twelve and enslave them.
Hmm, no wonder he spotted the naive and innocent girl he'd been clinging to at first sight. The moment he saw Hua Xian's carefree attitude and obvious demonic features, he knew this team was definitely strong.
In the demon realm, if a lower-ranking demon reveals their demonic characteristics and is seen by a higher-ranking demon, it will be considered a provocation. The consequences can range from a severe beating to death.
However, having only recently escaped the city, to be on the safe side, he gave the caravan the names A-Jiu and Twelve, asking Feng Twelve to call him "brother." The lower-class demons were quite casual about naming themselves, and seeing their dirty appearance, no one in the caravan suspected they were using false names.
Feng Shier noticed Su Yu's gaze and moved closer to her. How could she look at that little fool the same way she looked at him?
Following Twelve's movements, Su Yu withdrew her gaze, then carefully asked Hua Xian, "Young Master Hua, this forest..."
"It's alright! Just follow me tomorrow! We'll just wander around the outskirts." Hua Xian wiped his mouth, waved his hand to promise their safety, and then leaned closer mysteriously, telling them some legends he had heard from somewhere.
Legend has it that this forest is called the Dark Rose Forest not only because it is shrouded in mist and never sees the light of day, but also because a magical plant called the Dark Rose grows deep within it.
This Ink Rose can stimulate and enhance the bloodline of demons, making it extremely difficult to find. Moreover, each Ink Rose is guarded by a powerful demon beast, and to obtain it, one must defeat the demon beast.
"Has anyone ever obtained the Ink Rose?"
“I don’t know,” Hua Xian said, pursing her lips. “After all, the bloodline of the demon race is innate. If this Mo Gui can really stimulate and enhance the bloodline, the demons in this place will fight tooth and nail to get it.”
Hua Xian jumped up with a start, turned around and saw the middle-aged demon: "Uncle Wu, you haven't rested yet?"
Uncle Wu looked at Hua Xian with a slight headache: "Young Master, you should read less of these miscellaneous books. You should rest now, and your two young friends must be tired too."
"Yes—I understand," Hua Xian replied, drawing out her words, and walked towards her luxurious tent.
Uncle Wu nodded to the two guests and said, "Excuse me, it's getting late, you two should get some rest."
Su Yu quickly waved her hand and said it was nothing, then hurriedly packed her things and prepared to rest.
Su Yu tucked Feng Shier into the quilt, lay on her back, and closed her eyes to think.
Although Hua Xian was at the Great Perfection of Qi Refining, Uncle Wu's cultivation level was likely above Golden Core, so he dared not openly investigate. This caravan had considerable backing and decent character; traveling with them would guarantee safety, but…
According to Xiao Qi, her mother's ancestors had Moon Demon bloodline, but it had faded over time, which is why their family's demon bloodline wasn't manifested in the story. Mo Gui, however, could activate his demon bloodline.
Now that he needs to survive in the Demon Realm for a long time, hiding his spiritual power with medicine is not a long-term solution. Once he starts cultivating, he will easily be exposed. Moreover, spiritual energy is scarce in the Demon Realm, and it is probably difficult to reach the Nascent Soul stage or above by cultivating spiritual energy at the plot points. But if he cultivates demonic energy, it will be different. It will create more conflict points when he meets Su Yao in the future, and it may even promote the world's ability to function itself.
Fortunately, the demons here, apart from the lower-level demons who have some inhuman characteristics, look almost the same as humans, so he doesn't have a particularly strong aversion to activating his demon bloodline and becoming inhuman.
Su Yu sighed inwardly.
Unexpectedly, the system said with unusual confidence:
However, since they were going to find Mo Gui, they would have to leave the caravan. Su Yu turned to look at Feng Twelve.
Hua Xian, this rich young master, is not a bad person. Considering that he has given him so many extra meals, and because he had previously given Hua Xian a psychological suggestion, he should take care of Xiao Shier.
"Let's see when I can naturally leave the caravan," Su Yu thought, closing his eyes and falling asleep. He didn't notice that Feng Twelve had quietly opened his eyes and glanced at him after he closed them.
