Chapter 67 Getting on Track
Nuhra wasn't surprised by Kris's sudden embrace. Rather, their physical contact had become a part of their daily lives. Kris didn't mention the tea party anymore. Instead, he asked Nuhra, who had left midway, "Brother, how was your meeting?"
"It's an internal meeting of the Seventh Army. They've been on vacation long enough, so they need to be called back to stretch their muscles and prepare for the next expedition." Kris left Nuhra's arms! The two of them went upstairs one after the other. Kris followed Nuhra into the study, but Nuhra didn't react at all.
"When is the next expedition?" Kris leaned against his desk, his eyes meeting with the one standing before him. Though he felt a little disappointed, he understood that this was Nuhra's duty.
"At least we should resolve the issue of the capital planet first." Nuhra said calmly, "We can find a chance to meet them." Kris was a little surprised, but still agreed. He did not have any official identity in the Seventh Army, but Nuhra was willing to let him contact the people of the Seventh Army... This showed Nuhra's trust in him.
Kris glanced at the wrinkles on Nuhra's shirt, likely accidentally folded during their embrace. He reached out to smooth them out and asked, "Come to think of it, I promised you'd teach me how to practice... Do you remember?"
Nuhra laughed lowly a few times and agreed readily: "Want to learn? Then come to the Seventh Army to find me more often when you have the chance. I also want to see more of you." Coris also laughed when he heard this and kept this promise in mind.
He had been preoccupied with this special tea party for several days and hadn't put much thought into the part-time job interview. He had to prepare well today... This study was shared by Chris and Nuhra, so Chris didn't waste any time. He greeted Nuhra and sat down at his desk to prepare for the mock interview.
Nuhra watched Chris's serious face from the side, listening to his thoughtful remarks with great interest. It was not until the end of the first mock interview that he casually asked, "Why do you suddenly want to take a part-time job? Is it because you don't have enough money?"
Nuhra's straightforward words made Corris stumped, and he had to speak frankly: "I know you have given me a lot, brother, but sometimes I also want to make money on my own to repay your help."
Chris's explanation was vague, and he didn't really tell the reason why he was looking for a part-time job in the first place. After all, he actually wanted to use the part-time job to make money to buy a gift for Nuhra. If he really told the reason, the surprise Chris prepared would be meaningless.
It was obvious that Chris's reasons could not completely convince Nuhra. Nuhra raised her eyebrows, looked at Chris's calm expression, and finally said "Oh" slowly, meaningfully.
He walked over to Kris's side, massaged her tense shoulders and neck for a while, then turned and left quietly, leaving Kris alone...
The next day's interview came in a blink of an eye. Chris was in the best physical and mental condition because of the constant practice the day before and Nuhra's firm escort to his room to rest.
He'd felt pretty good during the interview, but he couldn't guarantee he'd be chosen for either part-time job. Now that his most pressing tasks were completed, though, he stood up from his chair, intending to relax.
Nuhra went to the military headquarters early in the morning. Ever since he decided to participate in the black market investigation, his workload has skyrocketed. Yesterday's vacation was completely forced... Even halfway through his vacation, Nuhra still had to hold a meeting with his subordinates to deploy work and arrange for another expedition in half a year, not to mention preparing for teaching at the military academy, which are not simple matters.
Seeing how busy he was, Chris never mentioned the topic of asking Nuhra to give him special tutoring again after that day. In the next week or two, Chris went to school as usual, and accompanied Nuhra to have a good rest when he got home... As for the various ongoing matters that had no news, such as investigations and part-time jobs, he put them aside and tried to live every day as well as possible.
He consciously practiced more and occasionally asked Joan for advice. Although Joan was a little puzzled, "Your husband is a well-known fighter, why don't you ask him?" She asked in confusion, maintaining her ruthless and concise style.
Corris scratched his head awkwardly, his eyes evasive: "He... has been busy lately, I'm embarrassed to ask him."
Ever since the earth-shattering tea party, friends who knew about the relationship between Nuhra and Kris went through a long period of shock, confusion and complete acceptance. They were finally able to calmly face the fact that Kris was already a married man, and occasionally they would jokingly show concern for his marriage life.
Joan's eyes were meaningful, which made Chris's scalp tingle, but she still agreed: "I understand. If you have any questions, just ask directly." Chris breathed a sigh of relief. Whenever he encountered a problem, he actually asked Joan for advice. The rating score in the simulation training was slowly rising.
His part-time job offer arrived as expected, but surprisingly, he only passed the interview for one position: an inspector at Training Hall 2. Chris took this well. After all, at this point in the investigation, the clues from the library were largely negligible. He was more concerned about the accomplice who filmed the report video and the regular employee, Sayid, who had been elusive at the training hall.
Now that Chris has become a part-time inspector, his interactions with Said, a full-time employee, will inevitably increase. He sees this as a good opportunity to uncover his true colors, and he can't miss it...
"What are you looking at?" It was a break in the team's training. Margaret happened to pass by and saw Chris staring at the email on the terminal with his head down, so she asked curiously.
"It's a text message from someone else." Chris turned off the terminal screen, sat on the sofa, and smiled as he waved the device in his hand at Margaret.
Margaret just asked casually, and then changed the topic to things related to training: "In another week, the classroom test will be held..." she sighed.
It would have been fine if this matter had not been mentioned. Once it was mentioned, Chris became more anxious than anyone else, even though Nuhra had advised him several times later, telling him not to care too much about the assistant teaching position.
"Being my assistant is very hard work," Nuhra said to Chris before bed one night. "I have very strict requirements for assistants, and I don't think it would be helpful to put any extra burden on you."
Chris was silent for a moment, and finally responded slowly in the darkness: "I want to try, I want to be closer to you." Hearing Chris say this, Nuhra stopped persuading him, and occasionally asked about his training and gave him some advice.
There were hands waving in front of Chris's eyes. He came back to his senses from his memories, met Margaret's worried eyes, and took the initiative to say, "I'm fine, just a little tired."
Margaret shook her head and advised sincerely: "Recover." She stood up and walked towards Joan who was standing in front of the simulation equipment to debug it. The two seemed to be discussing the content of the training.
After resting enough, Chris left the rest area and returned to the equipment he had just used, ready to start a new round of practice.
Once you dedicate yourself to training, time flies by. Kris took off his equipment with sweat all over his face. Joan, who was standing to his left, crossed her arms and stared at Kris with disapproval: "Your training volume has exceeded your capacity."
In fact, without Joan's reminder, Chris also felt that he had reached his limit... Recently, he didn't have to worry about the investigation, but instead focused on training, and his devotion made others worried.
"Oh..." Kris raised his tired and sore arms and rubbed the towel on his face. "I'll pay attention, Joan."
Joan looked at Kris and snorted coldly: "Don't train yourself to death." Although the words were unpleasant, what she said did make sense. As the commander-in-chief of the team's training, Joan knew everyone's physical condition and the appropriate amount of training. Kris's changes could not be hidden from her.
Chris showed a wry smile on his face, which was red from the intense exercise. Joan had said so much, so he had no choice but to nod in agreement.
All Chris wanted now was to go back to the dorm and rest, and sleep till tomorrow… His part-time job acceptance email told him to come to the gym tomorrow to find his permanent teaching job, so he really needed to get some rest.
The training officially ended, and he and his friends took the shuttle bus away. Due to the fatigue from the training, Kris's perception ability plummeted, so much so that he missed the cold gaze that briefly lingered behind him...
Ian was actually very tired, but he was born with a stronger ability to recover than others. Before he even left the gym, he had already recovered more than half of his health. He also had a special sense that sometimes made him keenly aware of changes in his surroundings... Ian shuddered, his face wrinkled, and he whispered mysteriously to Kris and Lauren, "Why do I have this ominous feeling? It's like someone is watching me from behind?"
Lauren got goosebumps when he heard that. He was afraid someone might try to harm him again, so he quickly crept up to Joan's side.
However, Joan did not feel that she was being stared at. Just in case, she shortened the distance between everyone and urged them to speed up. Only when they arrived at the shuttle bus station where there were people did she relax a little.
Chris originally thought it was Ian's own hallucination, but a few seconds later, he had a flash of inspiration, and the lingering image of Said immediately appeared in his mind... Maybe just now, the man who made people feel uncomfortable like a poisonous snake was observing their every move in a corner of the training hall.
Chris's expression suddenly turned cold. It seemed that he would have to have a good talk with his senior regular employee when he came to the training hall for on-the-job training tomorrow.
