Chapter 119 Zombie Syndrome

"Zhidu?" Constable Huang looked at Wang Yao with a strange expression. "When did you go to help him?"

“The day before yesterday,” Wang Yao replied.

"The day before yesterday?" Officer Huang's eyes widened suddenly, and he stumbled backward, his voice trembling. "Quick...quick! Send...send this person to quarantine! Quickly...!"

Wang Yao was taken aback. What was wrong with this guy surnamed Huang? Why was he yelling about sending him to quarantine after only a couple of words? A thought flashed through his mind, and he remembered the rumors he had heard at Zhidu Airport. Could it be that the Shengshi Fanhua Hotel was located in that Xianghe District of Zhidu?

Several of the surrounding constables turned around upon hearing the sound, looking at them blankly. In a moment of panic, Wang Yao hurriedly summoned the magic "Command," and Constable Huang blinked a few times, his voice fading.

"No...it's alright now." Officer Huang said mechanically to the people around him. Seeing that he had calmed down again, the other officers continued to go about their business.

Wang Yao noticed that several police officers were lying on the ground, with doctors and nurses providing emergency treatment around them. One of them seemed to have been treated and was being lifted onto a stretcher.

"Chief Qiu was diagnosed with zombie disease last night. Several other police officers staying at the same hotel as him have also contracted the disease. The news has been blocked," Chief Constable Huang said to Wang Yao in a low voice.

Wang Yao discovered that he could only "command" Constable Huang to do one thing at a time. Telling everyone that everything was alright was the first thing he made Constable Huang do, while revealing what Constable Huang knew about Qiu Dingxiong's illness was another matter entirely.

"Stiff...stiffness?" Xiao Chen, who was accompanying Wang Yao, changed his expression drastically when he heard Constable Huang describe the illness, and stammered as he repeated it.

When Wang Yao transmigrated here, he was unfamiliar with the various diseases of this world. He was not a medical genius like Hua Tuo, so he had no idea what this death disease was. He couldn't help but turn to look at Hui Shuo, who was following silently behind him.

"Do you know about rigor mortis?"

"The zombie disease is contagious. People who get the zombie disease will eventually become like zombies. It's terrifying..." Before Hui Shuo could answer, Xiao Chen answered first.

Zombies? Before Wang Yao transmigrated, he had watched many popular zombie movies. He thought those things were just made up by those American guys who had nothing better to do. He never expected that such things would actually exist in this world.

"Dingli Construction Company reported to the police that someone had jumped from a building at the construction site in Zaoyuan Village. The on-duty police officers from the First Division and the Zaoyuan Village police officers went to the scene to investigate. As a result, an unexplained shooting occurred. All five police officers at the scene were shot and are unconscious. It is currently only known that two of the shooters were armed officers..."

The exact cause of the shooting has not yet been determined.

Huang the constable mechanically continued, explaining that Wang Yao had once again used the magic "command" after hearing about the ghoul disease.

"Ghost Building" is just a colloquial term used by the residents of Huadu; the actual name of the urban village known as "Ghost Building" is Zaoyuan Village. Wang Yao "instructed" Constable Huang to briefly explain the details of the case at the scene.

As for the rigor mortis, since the incident occurred in Zhidu, which is far from Huadu, he knew he hadn't contracted the disease, so he didn't bother to investigate further and decided to focus on resolving Lin Yazhi's problem first.

After listening to Officer Huang's explanation, Wang Yao secretly guessed that these patrolmen shooting at their own men was probably Lin Yazhi's doing, and he couldn't help but feel very angry at Lin Yazhi.

Wang Yao believes that as a ghost, it's understandable for you to scare a few people. After all, there's not much entertainment in this desolate place, so scaring people is just a pastime, at most a prank. But if you become a ghost and kill people, then the nature of the act changes.

Murder is a crime, and if it's a human, you'll be locked up in jail and shot. If it's a ghost, of course you can't be let off easily.

"You go back. I'll have Officer Huang take me there." Wang Yao turned and greeted Xiao Chen, who had been following him. He was determined to go to the Ghost Tower, and he didn't want anything to happen to Xiao Chen if he came along.

"Oh." Xiao Chen replied, then looked curiously at Constable Huang, who was standing expressionlessly in front of Wang Yao, before turning around and walking back. Wang Yao, Hui Shuo, and Constable Huang stumbled over the parked ambulance and continued walking forward.

Ambulances were already whirring and carrying the injured away. This was a construction site, and the road was uneven and full of potholes. The ambulances clumsily turned around and drove away.

A short walk ahead was the site of the shooting by the police. The officers were there setting up a cordon, investigating the scene, and helping the doctors and nurses treat the injured. Wang Yao's destination wasn't there; he merely glanced at it before heading towards the haunted building with Officer Huang.

The alley he ran through when Xi Fu chased him back then has now been half demolished. The old buildings on both sides of the alley are half-ruined walls, like a person who has been dissected, exposing the broken organs inside, standing in front of Wang Yao.

Due to varying construction progress, the surrounding buildings under construction appeared uneven and disjointed in the darkness. Against the backdrop of this dilapidated alleyway, it resembled a desolate jungle ravaged by natural disaster, where only scavengers would sneak in under the cover of night.

"Don't go over there! There's something strange in there!" Wang Yao and his group walked past the busy police officers and headed straight for the haunted building. A police officer shouted loudly behind them.

"It's alright, I'll go take a look!" Officer Huang turned around and called to the patrolmen.

The officers were all taken aback. This Officer Huang was known for his cowardice in the Happiness District Police Station. What had gotten into him today? He knew the haunted building was strange, yet he still dared to venture inside.

Ignoring the shouts of the constables behind him, Wang Yao led Constable Huang and Hui Shuo into the alley and arrived at the foot of the Ghost Building.
