Chapter 359 Escape

"Heh, what you're saying is actually tempting, but unfortunately, it's not up to you," the Hunter laughed.

The three had reached the back gate of the castle while they were talking, but Gao Chong stopped and waved to the hunter.

"General Shan, I've found that this immortal is more obedient when you're in charge. I don't have much reason to argue with him. How about this? Please take this immortal to the front to exterminate the demons, and I'll take another look around to see if there are any other inferior demons hiding elsewhere," Gao Chong said with a smile.

"Hmm..." General Shan, unsuspecting, nodded from his horse.

Wang Yao was escorted by General Shan into the castle through the back gate. There he saw the guard who was watching the back gate. He seemed to be a little fatter than before, and there was a dark handprint on each cheek. He stood there looking depressed.

The divine soldier's eyes widened immediately when he noticed Wang Yao enter.

"Sorry, brother!" Wang Yao smiled apologetically at the soldier, who had most likely been slapped because of his escape.

The soldier stared blankly at Wang Yao, then glanced at General Shan riding behind him. Suddenly, he spat a thick wad of phlegm at Wang Yao's white suit. Presumably due to strict military orders, he didn't dare to leave his post without permission. Instead, he rushed in front of Wang Yao and slapped him twice across the face.

Having already been spat on, Wang Yao didn't say another word when he saw the three divine soldiers in front of the granary and stable, even though their faces were swollen and had the same dark handprints on them.

"It's quite interesting how the gods punish soldiers. They just slapped them across the face. Damn it, they let me escape and couldn't catch me. Shouldn't they have slapped my legs and buttocks? Well, legs and buttocks are actually controlled by the brain. I got away because I wasn't smart enough, so I have to slap my face," Wang Yao thought to himself.

After passing the stables, there was a narrow alley between stone houses. At the end of the alley stood a divine soldier, but unexpectedly, this soldier also had a handprint on his face. Wang Yao was puzzled. He had not passed through this soldier's defense zone when he escaped, so how did he get slapped?

After passing the unlucky-looking divine soldier, you emerge from the alleyway into a small square. In the square stands the large wooden house, which looks similar to a pavilion in the human world. It's drafty and uninhabitable at night, but a divine soldier still guards the wooden house. This soldier, however, has a perfectly clean face.

The soldier was quite excited that he hadn't been proven wrong. When he saw General Shan standing there, he shouted smugly, "Thank God, General, you've finally caught the spy!"

General Shan ignored him and continued to send Wang Yao forward with a gloomy face.

After passing through a narrow alley between stone houses, we arrived at the castle gate. Just like yesterday, soldiers and generals were still coming and going in front of the gate, making it very lively. A young general took off his armor and was wiping his sweat and resting in front of a stone house not far from the gate.

"Little Pei, how's the extermination of the lesser demons going?" General Shan reined in his horse and asked loudly.

"The area in front of the gate has been cleared, but the area where the Rebellious Demons have taken root is too vast, and this number of soldiers is not enough." The young general hurriedly stood up and reported to General Shan.

"Take this immortal over there and let him use the Samadhi True Fire to destroy the demon," General Shan ordered, pointing at Wang Yao from his horse.

"Yes!" General Pei glanced at Wang Yao curiously, then hurriedly put on his helmet and armor and began to re-equip himself. General Shan did not urge him, but quietly watched him put on his clothes.

"General, can we negotiate a deal with the blacksmith now?" General Pei walked over to lead Wang Yao and asked General Shan curiously. General Shan shook his head.

"What's the point of talking to them? Just kill them after destroying the demons."

General Pei nodded, his face full of sympathy, and gestured for Wang Yao to follow him to the castle gate.

Outside the castle gate is a deep moat, which curves in the air and protects the front of the castle. The moat extends all the way to the foot of the castle wall, leaving only a small area in front of the gate, which the castle can use to connect with the outside world via a drawbridge.

Wang Yao nodded in approval upon seeing the situation. The castle was wider in the front and narrower in the back, and this arrangement was a practical and efficient way to achieve maximum defensive capabilities at minimal cost.

After crossing the drawbridge in front of the castle, there was a large, withered forest ahead. Some soldiers were busy at the edge of the forest, felling the dead trees one by one. Further ahead, the forest began to show a little life, but it didn't look like it was not far from dying.

Some divine soldiers were brandishing their swords and spears, darting about in the forest, their shouts and cries echoing through the air. As Wang Yao and his companions walked forward through the withered branches and leaves, they discovered that the divine soldiers were chasing none other than the black creatures that Wang Yao had seen before.

A divine soldier grabbed a handful of black weeds in his hand. The root of the weeds was actually a black creature shaped like a radish. It twisted its small body, cried out in a shrill voice, and suddenly broke off from the weeds.

The divine weapon was quick-witted and swift, slashing down and cutting the inferior demon in two. Wang Yao saw ink-like black liquid spurt out from the broken edge.

Another divine soldier was chasing an egg-shaped oval-shaped inferior demon. The inferior demon was extremely agile, leaping and bounding through the forest. The divine soldier swung his sword several times but failed to hit it. In desperation, he shouted for other divine soldiers to help. However, after a lot of frantic efforts, the egg-shaped inferior demon still managed to escape.

There were also lesser demons fighting against the divine soldiers. Three or five lesser demons would attack a single divine soldier at the same time, and the divine soldier would fight fiercely. With the help of the other divine soldiers, the lesser demons were eventually killed one by one.

In short, the scene before us was like a large group of men catching chicks in the woods, causing chaos and commotion, but the results were lackluster.

Wang Yao observed that most of the divine soldiers were carefully searching the ground for a plant that emitted a faint black aura. Once they found this plant, they would often pull it out by hand and quickly kill the evil spirits still attached to its roots before they could escape.
