The buildings along the street were almost all shops on the ground floor, and tall coconut trees, the kind found outside the city, were planted neatly in front of each shop. People from all over the world bustled about under the trees.
The streets, paved with gravel and yellow earth, lacked any human-made technological products like cars, but the variety of rare birds and beasts, along with the gods dressed in all sorts of outlandish costumes, was dazzling and overwhelming.
Wang Yao felt that in this respect, this divine city was very similar to the Taiqing Immortal City in the celestial realm.
General Pei landed at the foot of the tower, and Wang Yao followed him. He saw General Pei throw down the reins and walk straight towards a small open door at the foot of the tower. At this moment, two divine soldiers hurriedly ran over, clearly there to lead General Pei's horse.
Wang Yao was not comfortable entrusting "Xianjianchou" to these two. He folded up the electric motorcycle and stuffed it into his pocket, then turned around to survey the surroundings of the tower.
This must be the most crucial part of this divine city. When Wang Yao came down, he noticed that there were hardly any divine beings walking around at the foot of the tower. The city's prosperity and hustle and bustle seemed to be isolated from the street surrounding the tower.
Upon entering the foot of the tower, the environment suddenly became deserted.
"Hurry up, don't keep the gods waiting!" General Pei strode to the small door and noticed that Wang Yao was dawdling behind him, so he stopped and urged him loudly.
"Uh... coming right away..." Seeing that General Pei was in a hurry, Wang Yao had no choice but to give up the idea of taking a walk around the tower first. However, he released his "sensing" and followed General Pei into the tower.
Judging from the "sensing" information, this tower should be a roundabout in the center of the city, from which all the major roads in the city radiate outwards. At the exit of each major road, there is a sculpture of a strange beast, but I did not see any divine soldiers guarding it.
Those divine beings seemed to be keeping their distance from the tower entirely on their own initiative.
As Wang Yao sensed the environment around the tower, he followed General Pei forward inside. Upon entering the tower, the light suddenly dimmed, and a wide staircase appeared before Wang Yao and General Pei. General Pei climbed the stairs without hesitation.
On either side of the staircase are tall pillars, each with several torches hanging from it, illuminating the interior of the tower and the staircase fairly well, so that those with poor eyesight wouldn't fall down on it.
Every two or three hundred steps, a circular platform appears at the top of the stairs, where the stairs break. However, a hundred meters later, another set of stairs floats above the circular platform.
The steps extend upwards, one section at a time, seemingly reaching the top of a tower that stretches as far as the eye can see.
Wang Yao noticed that at each platform, there seemed to be doors opening on the circular tower wall behind the pillars, but General Pei did not linger and simply leaped up to the next step.
With his "Immortal Travel" ability, Wang Yao didn't care about such a small height. The two of them climbed up about four or five thousand steps, jumping up and down countless times, when suddenly a man in a gray robe came to greet them on another platform.
“This is a restricted area…” The man held up his right hand to Wang Yao, indicating that he should check his body.
"Uh..." Wang Yao stared at the man for a moment, then involuntarily looked at himself. He was surprised to find that there was a faint green light flowing around his body.
"It's my fault. I was in a hurry and forgot to remind him of the rules of our Sun-Shooting Temple," General Pei hurriedly came to Wang Yao's rescue.
"It's alright, just stop." The man smiled slightly at General Pei. Wang Yao quickly stopped "sensing" and looked at himself again. Sure enough, the green light had disappeared.
The man stepped aside, and General Pei led Wang Yao onto the platform. Wang Yao was now completely bewildered by the steps above him. Damn it, no magic allowed! How was he supposed to climb these steps? Should he secretly use "Immortal Travel" again?
Fortunately, General Pei noticed Wang Yao's embarrassment in time. He put his arm around Wang Yao's shoulder, and Wang Yao felt his body suddenly rise up. Only then did he belatedly realize that General Pei was actually relying entirely on his physical strength to leap, without using any magic at all.
Only at this moment did Wang Yao truly realize the terrifying power of the gods.
After jumping up several more floors, Wang Yao estimated that they should be close to the top of the tower when General Pei finally stopped on a platform. He led Wang Yao to the edge of the platform, opened a door, and gestured for Wang Yao to go inside together.
The room was very dark. Six chairs were arranged in a circle facing the door, and they were all occupied. Behind the chairs, on the wall, there were some screens that looked like surveillance cameras, and it seemed that there were people on the screens as well.
However, they were obscured by the dark figures standing behind each chair, so Wang Yao couldn't see them very clearly.
A few torches burned eerily in the corner of the room, casting an unpredictable glow. The screen on the wall glowed green like will-o'-the-wisps, further emphasizing the room's gloomy and oppressive atmosphere.
As soon as General Pei entered the room, he immediately took a few quick steps forward and knelt down on one knee in front of a chair in the middle.
"This humble general has brought the forger of the God and Demon to you as ordered," General Pei announced loudly.
"The divine realm has already assigned me a number?" Wang Yao couldn't help but secretly wonder after hearing what General Pei said.
"Get down. Don't let yourself be misled by fancy tricks and gimmicks and neglect your duties," the man sitting in the chair said calmly.
"Yes!" General Pei replied, backing away from the room and closing the door behind him.
