Once it started galloping, "Immortal's Sorrow" was outmatched by General Pei's white horse. General Pei's mount was an absolutely divine steed. Its snow-white wings flapped a few times and it disappeared from sight. Even if Wang Yao twisted his right wrist to the limit, he couldn't catch up.
Fortunately, in the blink of an eye, General Pei appeared behind Wang Yao again with an anxious look on his face, shaking his head repeatedly as he looked at "Xian Jianchou".
"This thing of yours is no good. It looks nice, but it's too slow."
"Who said it's slow? I haven't sped up yet!" Wang Yao was not about to admit defeat in this matter. His spiritual power surged into "Immortal's Sorrow" like a tidal wave. Sure enough, "Immortal's Sorrow" immediately shot forward as if it had been injected with chicken blood.
General Pei followed him at a respectful distance, without making any more sarcastic remarks. However, after flying for a while, Wang Yao's cheeks began to sweat. The reason was simple: his spiritual energy was being consumed too quickly, and he was seeing that a third of his spiritual energy was gone.
General Pei, however, remained leisurely and showed no signs of strain. Even "Immortal's Sorrow" was exerting all its strength, while the white horse merely flapped its wings a few times. Watching all this, Wang Yao blinked and began to wonder if he should climb onto the white horse's back.
The task for the Golden Core stage is still pending, so I can't just exhaust my spiritual energy like this. The task is important, so I can only put aside my pride for the time being.
After making up his mind, Wang Yao was about to turn around and discuss it with General Pei when he saw General Pei point downwards and say, "We've arrived."
Passing through layers of clouds and mist, a magnificent city suddenly appeared before Wang Yao's eyes. The city was surrounded by a wide city wall, and at this moment, dozens of city gates were open at the same time. From the air, Wang Yao could see that the long queues of people entering and leaving the city were like dozens of long snakes circling around the magnificent city.
The divine beings who left the city always walked more than ten miles away before riding their mounts to fly away.
Meanwhile, the divine beings who flew in from all directions landed their rare and exotic beasts in roughly the same spot. Then, they or their subordinates led their mounts into the long procession, following the procession step by step into the city.
Outside each open city gate, rows of stalls stretched far into the distance with the flow of people entering and leaving the city, almost forming a city outside the city. There, vendors loudly hawked their goods to the passing citizens.
The shouts of vendors rose and fell, and Wang Yao could feel the liveliness and hustle and bustle even from the air.
Tall trees, similar to the coconut trees of the world Wang Yao had traveled to, stood amidst the bustling crowds outside the city, their broad leaves providing a rare bit of shade for the divine beings below.
Aside from a few sparse green trees, the city is surrounded by endless yellow sand, making it seem as if it rises abruptly from the desert under the scorching sun.
Seeing this, Wang Yao was about to control "Immortal's Sorrow" to find a city gate with a shorter queue and land in the desert to join the queue when General Pei had already flown past him on his white horse and waved to him, indicating that Wang Yao did not need to land and could fly directly into the city with him.
Looking around, Wang Yao realized that it seemed that only the two of them were flying straight into the city so brazenly. He carefully followed behind General Pei, gradually lowering the altitude and slowing down. He saw that the city in the desert was getting closer and closer, and the city walls appeared taller and wider.
Gradually, the soldiers standing tall on the city wall became clearly visible. Although they looked stern, they seemed oblivious to the presumptuous actions of General Pei and Wang Yao.
From the air, the most conspicuous thing in the city is a tall tower in the city center. This tower is the only one in the city whose height far exceeds that of the city wall. At the top of the tower is a huge metal sculpture, in which a three-legged black crow proudly raises its head, but has been pierced through the body by a golden feathered arrow.
The tail of the feathered arrow can be clearly seen at the three-legged black crow's rear end, while the golden arrowhead is inside the crow's open mouth. Below the arrowhead, the crow's curled tongue can also be clearly seen. The sunlight shines on the metal sculpture, making it exceptionally dazzling.
Is this some kind of taunt against the heavens because it's been irritated by the sun? Wang Yao chuckled inwardly, but then he saw that just as General Pei flew to the top of the city wall, a red light suddenly flashed, and a red, transparent light wall appeared out of thin air, blocking his path. General Pei immediately stopped in front of the light wall.
The divine soldier closest to them on the city wall also looked up at that moment, coldly glaring at the two in the sky.
General Pei calmly took out a black plaque and pressed it against the light wall. The light wall immediately broke open, almost like a large door. General Pei spurred his white horse and squeezed through the opening into the light wall. He then turned back and waved to Wang Yao.
Upon seeing this, the divine soldiers on the city wall also turned their heads away and continued to stand there like statues.
Wang Yao twisted his right hand, and "Immortal's Sorrow" accelerated and entered the light barrier. General Pei nodded to Wang Yao, and then rode his white horse towards the tall tower in the center of the city. Wang Yao looked back, but the light barrier behind him had already disappeared without a trace.
Once above the city, Wang Yao realized that this divine city was very different from the cities of gods and demons he had seen before. First of all, the roads were incredibly wide, almost every road Wang Yao saw was comparable to the widest road in Eternal Night City.
Secondly, there are many high-rise buildings in the city. Although apart from the tower, no building in the city is taller than the city wall, there are still many high-rise buildings of eleven or twelve stories like those in the human world. This is a sight that Wang Yao has rarely seen in his life in both the divine and demonic realms.
