Chapter 401 Refusing to Help Someone in Dire Need

The parts of those lesser demons that protrude from the soil are usually dominated by dark green grasses, short and inconspicuous, but here are all eye-catching big trees, their branches and leaves displaying a variety of striking colors such as black, red, or yellow.

There were very few green ones; at a glance, it seemed like there wasn't a single one.

Some of these trees are leafless, much like plum trees that have survived the winter, with gnarled and twisted branches, resembling large bonsai. Most of them are dark gray species, but some other trees have lush foliage with strangely vibrant colors, as if they were deliberately created by humans.

Hidden among these twisted or vibrant trees are buildings, some ancient and some modern, making one feel as if they have entered a carnival-like setting, filled with an extremely surreal beauty.

It seems that all the demons in the city have gone for medical checkups. Apart from the occasional car speeding by, there are no other pedestrians on the main streets. The police officers hadn't gone far on the main road when they turned into a small alley.

The buildings in the alley were of varying heights, mostly made of stone, and the ground had been replaced with bluestone paving. The car bumped violently as it drove on it. When Wang Yao arrived here, he felt that he was back in the City of Eternal Night.

The police car drove through the alley for a while, making several turns, before stopping in front of a two-story stone building.

This stone building is constructed from bluestones that are about two feet long and a little over a foot wide. Facing the alley, the bluestones are stacked up tightly, and you can't see any windows. It just feels like a stone mountain standing by the roadside.

An inconspicuous little wooden door is tucked away in a corner of the bluestone. The color of the wood is surprisingly consistent with the color of the boulder. If you don't look closely, you might really think that what you are looking at is just a stone wall.

In front of the building stand two large, orange-yellow trees, their vibrant colors resembling those of ginkgo trees in season. Yet, their appearance is strikingly similar to that of willow trees, with orange branches covered in leaves cascading down to almost touch the ground.
