Chapter Fifty-Seven Meeting

Wei Cai was quite pretty, not at all like a monster. Wang Yao hadn't found a suitable man yet, so he naturally wouldn't provoke the roaring lion beast. He just stood aside and looked at the layout of the conference room.

He saw a nameplate in the middle of the stage that clearly read "Lü Dongbin" and knew that was where Lü Xian was. He looked down and easily found his own nameplate, which, as expected, was in the last row of the conference room, with the two big characters "Wang Yao" on it.

This was the first time Wang Yao had seen his name properly made into a name tag at an important occasion. He found it quite novel. He sat down in his seat, looked around for a while, and found that he was the only person in his row.

All the other immortals in the office were sitting in front of him, which made him feel a little unhappy. But then he thought that he wasn't even a section chief. It seemed that everyone else in the office except him was at least a section-level cadre. So, to distinguish them, they made him sit at the back.

This matter needs to be understood from two perspectives. Although sitting in the last row might seem like discrimination, it also shows that the office put a lot of thought into reflecting the structure of the office's officials. On the stage, besides Lü Xian, there were only the heads of various departments.

Below the podium, a large group of section chiefs followed by Xiao Wang, who also stood out. Moreover, from another perspective, sitting in the back row all to himself felt very free!

Even Ke Ke was sitting next to Lü Xian... Huh? That fat bastard Hu Fei is something else, actually sitting to Lü Xian's right? He's doing pretty well in the office, not the second-in-command but at least the third-in-command. But compared to him, he's much more comfortable on his own. If he does something underhanded, Lü Xian won't easily notice.

Wang Yao realized the advantages of sitting at the back, so he was no longer unhappy. He sat there for a while, and then the immortals from the office began to arrive one after another. They found their name tags and sat down, and then greeted each other.

"Wang Gu, how's your studying going lately? How much longer do you have to keep learning?"

"Hey... Zhou Gu, haven't seen you for a few days, why do you look so pale? The agricultural department must be working too hard!"

"Hey Yang, how about we grab a few drinks after the meeting? We're all so busy these days, we're practically running around like madmen if we're not in meetings, so let's catch up during this one..."

"Oh, Zhu Gu, you've arrived! I was just looking for you. My son has been acting strangely lately, writing thousands of poems a day, just going on and on, he can't stop. Maybe... you could take a look and see if he's possessed by the God of Literature?"

"Your son's barely weaned, what kind of poetry can he write? I'm not trying to be mean, but you'd be better off focusing on selling Heavenly Wine. Wanting your son to succeed is nice, but you need to be realistic..."

“I’m very down-to-earth. This kid’s poem is really good. Why don’t you take a look, sir…”

"My love is like a tide, love like a tide pushes me toward you... Not bad! Cui, you better confess, did your son, who just weaned you, really write this?"

“Wang Gu, I’m getting angry if you say that. I, Cui Runiu, may be a wine seller, but what can I do if my son is successful?”

"These lyrics sound like they belong to some song, don't they? I think I vaguely remember them, but how do they go again?"

"Luan Gu, if you say those lyrics again, believe me, I'll turn on you..."

...

The group that came in were all section-level cadres. They chatted and greeted each other in a lively atmosphere. When they saw Wang Yao, they all took the initiative to greet him. However, since they were not familiar with each other, they didn't have much to talk about. Wang Yao noticed that the Lion Roar Beast Guard Cai poured tea and quietly left the conference room.

When Luan Chu came in and saw Wang Yao, she seemed to have something to say to him, but when she heard Cui, the head of the business department, bragging, she couldn't help but abandon Wang Yao and started arguing with Cui.

A few minutes later, the seats below were filled with section-level cadres. Then, as if by prior arrangement, a group of department-level cadres walked in, their faces flushed. They whispered to each other as they walked toward the platform, seemingly oblivious to the pairs of eyes staring at them from all sides.

However, when they saw Wang Yao, they still greeted him politely one by one.

"Xiao Wang, you're here!"

"Xiao Wang is quite handsome! You've really raised the bar for the overall attractiveness of our office!"

"Xiao Wang, this is the first time I've met you. Do a good job!"

...

When the section chiefs greeted him, Wang Yao, apart from Hu Fei, didn't know who was who. He could only greet each of them with "Hello, section chief." It wasn't until they walked to the stage and sat in their respective seats that Wang Yao could distinguish them by their name tags.

The one dressed in a sharp Western suit, wearing glasses, and greeting me the easiest was Ke Ke; the one who was tall and imposing, but the most amiable, winking at everyone, and talking the most to me was Zhang Ke from the security department; and Zhao Ke from the business department was always smiling, also a portly fat man…

Guan Ke, the finance department manager, looked like he was cut out for managing finances. He wore glasses, had messy hair and a stubble beard, and his eyes were always suspiciously scanning his surroundings, as if all the immortals present were secretly plotting to steal his money.

"Xiao Wang, I'm sorry for the delay. I've been too busy with the meeting these past two days. Here, your interface panel has been replaced with a new one. Hurry up and give me the old one..." Then another immortal came in, plopped down next to Wang Yao, and said to him.

"Who are you?" Wang Yao had never seen this immortal before and was a little confused.

"I'm from the equipment department, my surname is Jiao..." The immortal held a cardboard box in his hand and handed it to Wang Yao with a smile.

"Damn, what a surname that makes one's imagination run wild!" Wang Yao hurriedly pulled out his interface panel while exchanging pleasantries.
